This is an inn that I had up before, but here it is again now with improved lighting. It's also available on my Drivethrurpg store as a freebie or 'pay what you want' -

Gorgeous! I echo Couvs: what program did you use?

I use a program called Dundjinni. It's an old program that is no longer supported, but the community are still around releasing art assets that are available to use in the program. It's very easy to use, as easy as Microsoft Paint for example, and not as difficult as CC3. Great for quickly putting maps together. Only problem I can say with Dundjinni is it can be difficult to install, and a right pain to collect all the various art lying about.

The program is great for adding little details.

I then simply used Gimp after I made the map to do the lighting effects which didn't take long.

I did grab dundjinni I just Havent had a chance to tinker a lot with it. Are there any good tutorials on YouTube for it? CC3 was the other one I was looking at that seemed really good

Dunjinnii is good, but is no longer developed/supported.

A few of us on the forums use CC3. The main complain is always the steep learning curve. But, once you've spent only a few constructive hours learning it you can soon start churning out decent maps. It's full developed and supported (is currently released in a CC3+ form that most add ons are already converted for, with the annuals being slowly converted), has monthly annuals that introduce great new mapping styles. Lots of discussion and good links to tutorials in the Map Making Software thread. Start here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20879-Map-Making-Software-summary&p=284116&viewfull=1#post284116 and look through the following pages. Example maps, links to tutorials, etc..

Oh sweet. I'm assuming that 3 pack bundle with cc3+ is the way to go (best value)

Yeah. And, if you're going to be doing dungeon maps or battlemaps you might want to look at Symbol Sets 2 and 4: https://secure.profantasy.com/products/ss2.asp and https://secure.profantasy.com/products/ss4.asp#&panel1-1 SS4 is excellent.

Regarding a CC3 sale. I don't think there is a sale at the moment. Thoe bundle prices are the normal bundle prices which ahave been available year round. Nylanfs posted elsewhere saying that those prices were available until 21st, but I don't see evidence of that anywhere - on the website, Profantasy's Facebook page, etc.. I've asked Nylanfs to provide some details of the bundle offers ending on the 21st. If you have any concern that the prices might change on the 21st then I'd recommend buying before then, just in case.

Interesting. To they have some examples of what's in those symbols sets?

The two links I provided both have additional info (via links to the left). SS2 has a gallery and SS4 has an example map. They don't give you a complete breakdown of *exactly* what's in the pack, but they give a good idea.

I've got CC3 as well. I made a starship deckplan for a star wars game using it -

While its good, I've not gone back to it since as I find its interface clunky, and it's much harder to correct a mistake in it than it is in Dundjinni. You'll definitely need a lot of patience with the program, but it can produce some very nice maps.

I have the "free trial" of dundjinni but finding a beginners tutorial has proven somewhat difficult

Yeah there's not many about. Hmm... Maybe I should make one...

Although part of the appeal for Dundjinni (at least I think) is the ease of use. If your familiar with Microsoft Paint in any way, its pretty much similar to that. There might be a few vids lying about on youtube of some people making maps with Dundjinni.

You definitely have to spend the time getting to know CC3. Just like you have to spend the time getting to know Fantasy Grounds... But, once you spend the time, the rewards can be amazing!

I might be just thinking too literally with the titles of these two packs but are they strictly symbols or is it also objects and other sundry decoration options?

You get symbols and textures (floors, walls, etc.). Included in the symbols are various decorations - wall features, etc..

There are also various different decorations (assuming you mean map decorations) - like compass rose, scale, etc..

In CC, a symbol is a preset object (or group) that can be added to a map. So, it could be a symbol such as a fantasy rune, or it could be a wagon, a door, a tree, mountain, or anything else you can think of.
