This is a community extension. Work on it has ceased because of time constraints and how the 5E ruleset auto-populates spells and actions with effects.
The new extension "Effect Wizard" is ready to be tested by those that are willing.
This extension allows you to have a 'wizard' to go through and create effects. It currently only supports the 5E ruleset, but later will be expanded to all rulesets.
In order to test this out or update:
Drop the .ext file in your extensions folder which can be found by clicking the folder icon in the top right of the launcher screen (if it asks to overwrite say yes).
When you launch a 5E campaign make sure to check the "Effect Wizard" extension in the extension list.
Either navigate to the campaign effect list window, the effect section of an actor on the combat tracker, or edit an effect on the action tab of a character sheet.
A new button should be located near the effect line or in the case of the campaign sheet an "Effect Wizard" button is located at the top left. Click this button to open the Effect Wizard.
Once open select an effect from the left and then fill out the fields that appear at the bottom, either by typing a number, dropping dice, changing the value of a pull down menu, or entering text.
Click the "Add" button to put the effect into the list on the right. Repeat the previous step and this step as many times as necessary to build your completed effect.
Click the "Generate" button to close the Effect Wizard window. This will place the effect in the appropriate place.
Please report any bugs found here so we can improve this extension and eventually release it to the masses.
V.1.0.0 is now live!
Change Log:
V.1.0.0
descriptors are now added when the 'add' button is clicked.
V.0.9.0
Fixed the Campaign Effect List Window bug which would generate a bunch of blank effects and eventually stop the Effect Wizard from creating new effects.
V.0.8.0
Added commas before each parameter.
Added "!magic" to DMG keyword.
Removed "opportunity" parameter from DMG keyword.
Other internal bug fixes.
Known Bugs:
Client cannot open Effect Wizard window.
Planned Updates:
Pathfinder effects and support.

Yea! Does this work for players as well as DM's? Can it be used in the manage characters UI?
If for use by players in manage characters, do they need to load it? (and how?)
Thanks, I'm sure my group will be playing with this and will give you feedback once we do.

Very nice - I'm interested to see how this works.
Is it just for 5E? The extension isn't limited to any specific ruleset.

According to the OP,
It currently only supports the 5E ruleset, but later will be expanded to all rulesets.

Thanks LE.
@lokiare1 - I'd recommend you restrict this current extension to the 5E ruleset only, otherwise you're going to get people trying it anyway and reporting back issues (maybe without telling you they're using another ruleset). Best to restrict it to what it's designed for - less hassle for everyone.

In this case it works with other rulesets, it just doesn't have the 'effects' added to the strings file. Feel free to read up on the format for adding an 'effect' to another ruleset and then add them yourselves. It should work unless there are differences in the character sheets of other rulesets, but everywhere else there should be no problem.
If you do add effects to other rulesets, post your changes here and I'll consider adding them to the extension. If I do use them I'll put your name or forum name in the credits.

Yes, this works for players (on their character sheets when you create or edit an effect), it works for DMs on the Combat Tracker, the Campaign Effect Window, and character sheets when you create or edit an effect.

I've been trying this on a test campaign (no other extensions loaded).
Simply clicking around the options causes blank effects to add to the effect window https://puu.sh/sDyPj/37fb46430c.png
I can't drag any damage die into the Damage (Ongoing) section.
I can't click on any option in any of the drop down boxes, such as damage type, or anything, mainly occurs with the "if statement" selection, but has occured with a few others.
Also, resizing the window exacerbates all of these issues.

Indeed. It seems that there are now 4 descriptor boxes which I'm pretty sure weren't there before.
As spite says accessing the Effects Wizard from the Effects tab seems to be the cause of some problems; like not being able to drop dice or select options from the drop down. Similar problems don't appear when accessing it from elsewhere.

Can you give me a step by step process of how to replicate this bug please? With images if possible.

The effects tab? Do you mean the Campaign Effect List window?

New Campaign
1) Open the Wizard from the effects dialog
2) Click on any Keyword - this adds a blank effect into the custom effect column
3) Click another keyword - this adds another blank effect
4) Click on Damage (ongoing) - this adds several more blank effects
5) Click on any other keyword
6) Click on Damage (ongoing) again. This adds a new blank box to the bottom of the window, and selecting anything else will continue to add boxes. (Looks like whenever a new keyword is selected it adds a new box)
7) Eventually nothing can be selected from he drop down boxes and dice can't be dropped into the dice box

That was fast, was about to open up FG, and you beat me to it.
That's the same process and end result I got, lokiare

Yes.
I think I know what is causing this. I'm working to fix it now. I added it to the 'Known bugs" list in the first post.

I really love the idea of this extension! Is there any idea of when the planned update to cover Pathfinder (and, presumably, 3.5E) might become available?

Just FYI, I'm sure its an extension conflict error as I run several extensions, but when I use this extension the players see the little blue running man icon when they manually create effects on their characters and when they click on the blue man to check it out they get a script error. Don't think it affects anything. I run a lot of extensions so haven't pinpointed where the conflict lies. I'm guessing it is either the remove effect extension I use or maybe the alternate side button extension. Anyway, just an FYI. I love the idea of this!

Just found this extension too... trying to work though it but errors... no text in the drop down boxes when selecting damage type etc.. as usual probably an extension conflict
cracking idea though

Has this been abandoned for now, saved to be a proof of concept for FGU? Because the idea behind it is great.

Hello out there. Is this still being worked on????
Due to the way Fantasy Grounds and the 5E ruleset automatically generates the effects when a spell or action is dropped onto the Action tab, the need for this extension has gone way down. For now it is not being worked on.
