Monters are locked in the SRD and I can't change their tokens

I could be possibly doing something wrong. I'm using the 5e SRD to run a campaign and the monster tokens only have the circle with letter in them and I can't change them to anything else, they are locked. has anyone else come up with a work around?

You can't edit a creature that is in a library module. You need to make a copy of the creature (click/drag the entry within the personalities/NPC window). Or you can change the assigned token when you add a creature to an encounter record or after the creature is added to the combat tracker.
