Hello folks, I'm starting to work on some more map tiles and I thought I would pop in and share as I work on the sections of the new set.
Here is a section of map tiles to build large sections of grungy flag stone ground areas to then place buildings or other things over.

I see a lot of flagstone and cobblestone for maps. What I don't see a lot of is old dirt roads for small villages and country homes... *hint hint*

In a previous map tiles set there is a dirt path through grass. But I have made another dirt path set of tiles along with a new set of grass tiles. This set of grass tiles depicts a very short grass compared to the long shaggy grass of the previous set: 16398
Then there is a larger dirt road set of map tiles: 16399

With this set, I am making the walls into separate overlay PNG files so that you can add in different floor tiles that are not fixed to the walls. This I think will make the Map Tiles a lot more flexible. Some of the tiles will include floors and walls are one in the same because of lightly effects and shadowing (eg: windows, steps, etc).

I have all of your tile sets, and actually just re-downloaded them because I think they had been updated. I like the look and use them all the time. Still trying to figure out the roof tiles a bit better.
I am sure it would take a lot of work, but what about some city/town tiles? Just a thought. :) Keep up the great work!!!

By having the main wall tiles separate from the floor, I think there is more flexibility in how you build your rooms.

I am happy to hear your having lots of fun with the map tiles. The roof files are a bit tricky I will admit.

City and town tiles? I assume you mean a fantasy medieval theme city/town scape? I'll see what I can do.

My suggestion is as the stairs drop lower, instead of fading into white, I would suggest fading into dark grey or black. That would imply darkeness and depth. Where you fade to white, it ends up merging with the outer wall.

I support a few artists on Patreon, so I'm familiar with how most Patreon sites work. I'd love to support you, but I'm struggling to see what advantages there are to me supporting you? For example, the wording of the Rewards makes it sound like the $2 reward gets access to your blog and a bunch of samples that you're playing around with. Will any of this be usable in game, or am I just really seeing what you're playing with?
Sorry, it's just not obvious from the site, and reward description, what we're getting in return for our support. This might be part of the reason that after nearly three weeks you don't have any patrons? Please don't take this as being aggro, I'd really like to support you but I see Patreon as a two-way street and I'm struggling to see the advantages to me giving you regular monthly support.
As an example, take the excellent maps that Ross McConnell of 2-Minute Table Top creates and partly fund through his Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/2minutetabletop There are clear rewards descriptions and patrons know what they're going to get in return.

I made the page a few weeks ago and then left on a short week long holiday to visit the folks for Saturnalia. So I would be very amazed if I did have any patrons now. I've been putting material up to give the page and the post log substance... but I'm still trying to figure out how to really use Patreon to the best advantage. What kind of rewards to setup on Patreon vs the wide variety of stuff I plan to create. I was not sure if I wanted to do the monthly patron system or the "by thing" patron system. In a way I would not mind doing both.
I see the "by thing" patron system the same way I see systems such as Kickstarter, a method of pre-purchase of a product/service you are interested about. That could work with some token packs and adventure packs, but I think it could result in too much fussing around. Or be unworkable if I get more involved with "in game" purchase systems such as Fantasy Grounds modules, etc. It would be hard to pre-purchase a module via Patreon/kickstarter when the sales mechanism is out of my control.
This is not a problem for my packs sold on RPGnow.com (https://www.rpgnow.com/browse.php?manufacturers_id=2143?affiliate_id=8122 9&src=FG-MAP_TILES) where I can create discounts or coupons.
But I don't want to just do pre-purchase, I want my followers/fans/minions to get involved and feel like they are contributing. That is why I switched to the monthly patron system with the main aim of that being the creation of the Play-tester reward level. During each month via Patreon I'll release everything (development material) I'm working on during the month in the form of material accessible via a Dropbox link (plus password) which will be available to Play-tester subscribers for a period of 30 days (thus the monthly subscription and so I don't go over my Dropbox disc space). So as a Play-tester patron you will get whatever I am working on, and ultimately you will be able to give feedback via Patreon on each project. Maybe something looks a bit wonky, you want to see more of something, etc - and ultimately you will get the finished version too.
For example, I'm currently re-developing all of my Compass Points into Fantasy Grounds Modules and Print on Demand books. The development module files for The Cult of the Iron Mask (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/studio-projects/cult-of-the-iron-mask/?utm_source=Fantasy%20Grounds%20Forum&utm_campaign=Cult%20of%20the%20Iron%20Mask&utm_medium=Forum%20Post&utm_term=Cult%20of%20the%20Iron%20Mask&utm_content=Cult%20of%20the%20Iron%20Mask) and the Gnome Crystal Mine (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/studio-projects/gnome-crystal-mine/?utm_source=Fantasy%20Grounds%20Forum&utm_campaign=Gnome%20Crystal%20Mine&utm_medium=Forum%20Post&utm_term=Gnome%20Crystal%20Mine&utm_content=Gnome%20Crystal%20Mine) are currently up and on Patreon. Soon I'll be putting up the Folly of Silenus (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/studio-projects/the-folly-of-silenus/?utm_source=Fantasy%20Grounds%20Forum&utm_campaign=The%20Folly%20of%20Silenus&utm_medium=Forum%20Post&utm_term=The%20Folly%20of%20Silenus&utm_content=The%20Folly%20of%20Silenus). When I begin the print on demand book versions I'll release the book files as PDF's and may do a special discount coupon for Play-testers only as I'll be using the RPGnow.com print on demand system to release the books (I might also print some special edition hard copy versions for myself and as a limited edition, but have to wait and see).
Later today I'll be posting the Photoshop PSD file for the full Wizards Tower maps to the Play-tester group, along with some experimental map tiles that might go into Dungeon Map Tiles III (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/studio-projects/dungeon-map-tiles-iii/?utm_source=Fantasy%20Grounds%20Forum&utm_campaign=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20III&utm_medium=Forum%20Post&utm_term=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20III&utm_content=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20III) as a pack update.
So at the moment, the Play-tester reward level is the only reward level that I am really committed too... the rest are a work in progress.
Sorry, it's just not obvious from the site, and reward description, what we're getting in return for our support.
Nothing to be sorry about. The wording needs a fair bit of work, I totally agree with you.
This might be part of the reason that after nearly three weeks you don't have any patrons?
To be honest I didn't expect to really have any patrons just yet. I've really only just turned the Patreon page on, plus I am still working out what to do. Plus it is Christmas and I expect everyone is off doing family things (I was).
Also there is the empty party room syndrome to overcome... No one wants to be the only person at the party, if they see other people at the party they will want to join in, but if they don't see anyone else enjoying the party they will be less inclined to join in. It is an old marketing ploy to populate a party with party-goers before you invite anyone join in. Even Patreon has a tutorial that recommends populating your patron listing with family members before launching. I have not done that... yet, and may not do that. I've always relied on organic interest in my products and services to see me though, rather than the creation of fake followers to entice real followers (the same way people buy followers on Twitter).
Please don't take this as being aggro, I'd really like to support you but I see Patreon as a two-way street and I'm struggling to see the advantages to me giving you regular monthly support.
I want to use Patreon as a two way street, which is why I like the idea of a Play-tester group reward. You get development material which lets you see how I build stuff, plus you get you give feedback and help point me in interesting and new directions (or stop me from breaking something). I think this way I get funding, and you get good value. I've set the monthly reward value at $10 a month, if you were to buy from RPGnow.com what I have released so far - you would be paying $13ish dollars. While I suspect in future months the value will go up.
As an example, take the excellent maps that Ross McConnell of 2-Minute Table Top creates and partly fund through his Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/2minutetabletop There are clear rewards descriptions and patrons know what they're going to get in return.
I like the coupon code idea Ross McConnell has for his lower tier rewards, and his descriptions of his reward tiers is clear. I think he has the advantage that he generally has one product line in mind: maps. While I'm sort of all over the place. Maps this week, tokens next week, a comic sketch on the weekend, a mini-adventure next month, etc, etc.

To make it easy to distinguish between doors and windows, you might make windows "hollow" on the inside. i.e. continue the wall edge and make a transparent/light/open in the middle. That way doors show the regular wall getting narrow (like above) and the window keeps the wall profile, but indicates it on the inside. Don't know what you had in mind, and wish I could show it artistically...
Oh, and looks good!

That is pretty much what I already do with the map tiles that have a "window" in the wall. I keep the wall the same thickness but show the "shelf" of the window space as if the wall has been chopped in half through the window.
Oh, and looks good!
Thank-you!

Thank-you. There are more map tiles in the works. Plus with MapForge being successful over at Kickstarter plus another one soon to go onto Kickstarter (its secret so I can't say who's it is yet). The tools for making maps is about to expand. So I'll be busy making more map tiles.
I'm keen to know how good the new configuration is, having the walls as seperate PNG's to the floors. In my own work it makes them easy to use, but I wounder how my loyal minions are doing with this configuration.

That was the plan.

Generally I don't revisit old material, although I do new material along the same theme. For example my sister went on a trip to Vietnam recently and took some photos to make surface textures for me. Some of those photo I think will make excellent source material for a new set of Dungeon Map Tiles. Will have to wait and see what I end up making.
And what are the new ones your working on?
Planning more Sci-Fi stuff, even was thinking about a Dwarven Themed set of Dungeon Tiles. Had an idea for a Goblin Town set... but I'm currently polishing off a small Compass Point (called Grunk's Lair) which I hope to get into the Fantasy Grounds store.
Then who knows what I'll make.... although I am keen to make a bunch of Sci-Fi Furniture Tokens to complement the Sci-Fi map tiles.
Plus also I have stuff I want to build for the launch of MapForge too.

I should have answered this when it was posted, my bad...
Right at the moment only the map tiles packs and furniture tokens pack listed in the Kickstarter will be a part of the Map Forge software. But... there are plans to eventually port all of Studio WyldFurr's goodies over to Map Forge. We need to give poor overworked and underpaid Heruca some time to code the software and to configure each map content package.

Well it has been a while since I posted here. But I really should post a few updates.
Not sure if I posted news about these packs elsewhere on this Forum, but since this thread is all about the Map Tiles packs I should update it with new packs that I have released since the last time I posted here... which seems to be when I released the Sci-fi Props and Gadgets pack.
Since then I have released the Abandoned Mansion Map Tiles (https://www.wyldfurr.com/project/abandoned-mansion-map-tiles/?utm_source=Forum%20Post&utm_medium=Abandoned%20Mansion%20Map%20Tiles&utm_campaign=Abandoned%20Mansion%20Map%20Tiles&utm_term=Abandoned%20Mansion%20Map%20Tiles&utm_content=Abandoned%20Mansion%20Map%20Tiles) set, which is avalible via my studio store.

After that came the Dungeon Map Tiles IV (https://www.wyldfurr.com/project/dungeon-map-tiles-iv/?utm_source=Forum%20Post&utm_medium=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20IV&utm_campaign=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20IV&utm_term=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20IV&utm_content=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20IV) set, which I made with Photo resource material gathered from my Sisters trip to Vietnam (she has just come back from another overseas trip with more photos too).
https://www.wyldfurr.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/sample-dmt4-a.jpg (https://www.wyldfurr.com/project/dungeon-map-tiles-iv/?utm_source=Forum%20Post&utm_medium=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20IV&utm_campaign=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20IV&utm_term=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20IV&utm_content=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20IV)
Next up was a little pack I called the Iron Stone Map Tiles (https://www.wyldfurr.com/project/iron-stone-map-tiles/?utm_source=Forum%20Post&utm_medium=Iron%20Stone%20Map%20Tiles&utm_campaign=Iron%20Stone%20Map%20Tiles&utm_term=Iron%20Stone%20Map%20Tiles&utm_content=Iron%20Stone%20Map%20Tiles) collection. I was going for an industrial iron and concrete look. Like a Warhammer 40,000 Ork stronghold kind of feel.

Do any of these have line of sight baked in?
Tailz Silver Paws
October 13th, 2022, 06:52
Hello everyone!
I have just uploaded an update to the original Dungeon Map Tiles (https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/237/view) package of art assets. This update adds in some Grass edge tiles that you can use to create an overlapping grass edge over other ground textures. Plus I have added some black and white fades to use with ascending or descending levels on staircases. Plus as mentioned below, the LOS data has been taken out. I have just done a little Livestream on YouTube (https://youtu.be/PzSzDtK9F80) to demonstrate the new elements in Fantasy Grounds.
Let me know what you think...
Do any of these have line of sight baked in?
Unfortunately no, I found that the LOS didn't seem to work too well with the map tiles. This is because the map tiles are - I think - far too small, as the bulk of the tiles is a single grid square. So you get a lot of "light poke through" at the edge of each grid square where the edges of each tile's own LOS data would meet (at least I did in my tests). So I have actually just taken the LOS data out of the original Dungeon Map Tiles pack. Also because of the granular nature of building an adventure map with map tiles, I think adding in your own LOS ends up with a far better and cleaner result.
Pre-set LOS, I think, works best with ready-made rooms, instead of the assets I provide. Its a bit of a trade-off, a lot more control in the design of your rooms, but lacking the pre-built features.

My second volume (https://www.wyldfurr.com/project/isometric-map-tiles-volume-2-the-ruins/) of Isometric Map Tiles has just been released into the wild landscape of the Fantasy Grounds Forge (https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/1712/view)!
The pack has a wealth of art assets you can use to create isometric maps in Fantasy Grounds itself, and I have several Livestreams on my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/wyldfurr) showing how you can do just that!

Hello everyone, I have a new pack of map tiles in the Fantasy Grounds Forge, the Egyptian Map Tiles (https://www.wyldfurr.com/project/egyptian-map-tiles/) package of adventure map building art assets. This new pack is for creating desert structures built from sandstone with wooden upper floors.
