As the title says, are there any or is there interest in any Western setting RPG? By Western I mean non-Weird west, nothing wrong with it just looking for more of a "historical" or "cinematic" setting. I have Boot Hill 3rd ED, Aces & Eights and Coyote Trail. So is there any one else out there who is playing in this setting or interested in the setting.

Thanks!

Savage Worlds Deadlands has a decent following here, I believe. You can leave out the weird elements of the setting if you don't want that. Still a perfectly good western game and a well supported commercial fantasy grounds ruleset.

Yes I have heard of the aspect of Deadlands. Not opposed to it at all, just do not own the rule set.

That should get you started in the right direction. Contains everything you would need to start as a player including the manuals, for a total of $15.

GURPS would be my first and only choice for Western gaming, of course the buy in might be a little steep for some people.

Not trying to break the bank and buy things I do not have or anyone else interested. What I do have access to is easily passable to any interested player if we get a game established.

im a fan of deadlands though i've not played it on fantasy grounds. I have a passing familiarity with boot hill from way back and like the western genre quite a bit. Depending on day and time I might be able to play. definitely interested.

The good Dr_Venture did a boot hill theme/extension for Castles&Crusades which was very thematic and C&C is very similar to D&D 1e so most of the mechanics are there and familiar to most people.

I just finished building a module for MoreCore that incorporates the Fantasy Games Unlimited "Wild West" rules.
The complete Wild West PnP rules are availabe here (https://d_little.tripod.com/Games/Western/index.html) with permission from the publisher.
Unfortunately that permission isn't transferable, so I can't post my mod.

Have you run it by support - at - fantasygrounds.com yet? They might be able to work out an arrangement so you can donate the .mod here on the forums, like what was done with City of Mists...

Permission for City of Mists was done between Imiri and the publisher direct.

After some posting back and forth with Damned, I have decided I am nowhere near finished yet. I'll get in touch with support about the possibility of posting the mod when its farther along. Thanks for the suggestion.

But we both know that's not how they want things done... that was my point.

I think you are missing the point... this is not a commercial release and it has no intention of a commercial release. It is simply a fan of a long dead RPG that he could possibly get permission to share a partial or full library for. Its not for the store, its not for sale, its not something SmiteWorks even have time to look at... Its a little like a community ruleset, you dont need SmiteWorks permission to make one.

No, I totally get that. Was just trying to steer him a direction. A lot of the RPG studios won't bother to reply to random requests like that unless SmiteWorks has already made contact previously, in my (admittedly limited) experience trying to do the same. If it's a small deal, and the guy is cool and replies, awesome.

its a game that has been out of print for 30 years. permission was granted to put the rules online on a website but no further sharing was permitted under that grant.

ive contacted three publishers and had dialogue with all of them :)

I go away for a day to work and do some extension coding, and look what happens :p
Seriously though. Thanks for all the feedback on different ways to handle this.

I have the 1st edition and a friend owns 4th edition. We haven't played 4th edition yet but it looks good. Usually some form of Hollywood/Spaghetti-western style of adventures. Back in the 90's we usually stopped playing because we ran out of ideas and another person took over as GM. My most successful game/adventure was a modified John Wayne-movie. We stopped playing after that and I don't remember why. The Internet world of today makes it so much easier to find seeds for ideas, either just by reading some history (like reading about "Hell on wheels") or look at some movie or the series Hell on Wheels. The 4th edition has so much more information/history than my 1st edition. The equipment is of course about the same.
