I thought the official ruling for critical hits in 5e is another die... ie a two handed sword does only one extra 1d6 rather than 2d6 that Fantasy Ground implements.

RAW is 1d6. Not sure what FG does... If it does 2d6 then you should post this in the 5E bug thread here; https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?34656-5e-Bug-Reports-(Continued)&p=297487#post297487

Negatory, ghost rider.

p.196 of the PHB:

When you score a critical hit, you get to roll extra dice for the attack's damage against the target. Roll all of the attack's damage dice twice and add them together. Then add any relevant modifiers as normal.

Unless it is somewhere else in the PHB or the Errata, it doesn't RAW 1d6 (I could very well be wrong, so please direct me to the correct info if I am, please).

This was covered in a sage advice tweet:

Thanks, kalmarjan - I was just headed to Sage Advice to see if there was something about it.

So a great sword deals 4d6 damage on a critical, then add the damage modifiers.

Sorry, I was confusing it with Brutal Crit, which only does one extra die (i.e. 1d6)

Lord Entrails, I was thinking the same thing. I knew I had read that rule somewhere and had also confused it. Thanks for the clarification.

Brutal Crit was just talked about in Sage Advice, I think. That's probably why it was at the top of our minds.
