View Full Version : Location of various files

Is there a guide or wiki which shows the location (path) of various files. Moving data to a different campaign, and recovering custom settings after an upgrade is time consuming due to having to figure out where everything is.
Right now looking for user-generated Tables and Notes within FG - looks like they're not saved with the campaign. 3.1.6 Call of Cthulhu and 3.1.7. FG if that makes a difference.

Tables and notes aren't stored in separate files, they are all within the campaign database: db.xml in the campaign specific directory. This is the main campaign database that FG uses and stores the majority of the campaign data here in XML.
If you want to move data around from campaign to campaign it is best to export the data into a module: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Library#Module_Export Select the FG entities you want to export (tables, etc.) and export to the module, then load that module up in your next campaign.
Note: "Notes" are meant to be a player/campaign relevant record and as such don't export with a module as they're not seen as GM data. If you are recording GM data you should put it in Story entries. You can copy/paste from Notes in Story and export the story entries.

Ok, got the export to work, thanks.
How do I combine modules? I now have multiple story modules, and it's difficult to explain over voice to "click on Library, then bottom left on modules, then open the book, then... ... ..., then choose the red tab at the bottom, click on the text" just to open one entry.

Just right click > Share the entry you want. It will pop up in the players window and then after that they will have it in their story list.

What LordEntrails says.
Plus, don't share the whole module with the players (this is a big load on the player side as it loads all the data from them module), just share the individual records as and when you need - just like you would when running a campaign.
Tip: You can see what the players see by starting a second instance of FG on the same computer as the GM and "Join Game" with a server address of localhost This is invaluable in learning exactly what the players see and how sharing, combat tracker, maps, etc. appear to the players.

Oh, yes, I can see it's simpler at player end, that's good.
Got it to work after several exports as I was getting duplicate entries in modules, story and tables. Trenloe's tip about only sharing individual records fixed that.
Thanks!

Another tip - don't open a module you've exported in the campaign you exported it from. This will give you duplicate entries: the original (campaign) entries and the module entries.
