I have both, and there are things in the SRD that are not in the PHB (like herbalism kit, as an example)
The PHB has backgrounds in it that specifically state you are granted items that are not even contained in the PHB- they are only in the SRD. Why is this? Sometimes this can be really annoying- and I feel like the PHB should be a complete resource, or at the very least if it says the Hermit background gets proficiency in Herbalism Tool Kits, I should be able to find that tool kit in the same book...
Even stranger is I have the hard copy PHB too- and sure enough Herbalism Kit is listed with its own little paragraph too. However it's nowhere to be found in the FG version of the same book.
I realize I am picking on the herbalism kit a lot here, but it's just a really good example of my point. It's not the only item like this.
