View Full Version : UpdaterEngine crashes

I've been trying to update Fantasy Grounds for the last couple hours with no success. When I hit the Update button, FG crashes. Closes program with no error code or anything. Same situation with Settings button. I googled a little and tried to run UpdaterEngine as administrator. It still crashes with no error code or message. Simply closes up.
I've tried clearing the cache and reinstalling. And reinstalling. I've restarted my computer, and am now considering small firearms.
I'm running FG on Windows 10 64-bit Anniversary. CPU is i5-4440 with 8 gigs of RAM.
Everything was working fine until today. Really not sure where to go from here.
After doing a little legwork, I've discovered that the 'Open data folder' button is targeting my OneDrive folder, and that the program is not building a console.txt
Don't know how to fix either of those, but I suspect they're at least symptomatic of the issue.
Thanks.

Hi Nyth - are you running Norton? Try turning it off for 10mins and re-running.
You can point your Data file to OneDrive but odds are - sooner or later you will get a corrupt db.xml - Cloudsync drives are not very good at supporting database files.

I'd go further than this and say *don't* use any sync applications for your FG directories.

Turn OneDrive off (although the damage may already have been done) and move the data directory somewhere else outside of any synced directories and use the Settings window to point to the new location. If you can no longer access the settings screen, uninstall and then delete the FG registry settings (info here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?34177-Install-on-new-laptop-install-cannot-find-any-ruleset&p=290989&viewfull=1#post290989). Then re-install and don't select synced directories for the installation locations.

Hi there, Damned! Not running Norton. I am running Avira. I've whitelisted Fantasy Grounds and fantasygrounds, but the problem persists.
Also, I absolutely don't want Data going to OneDrive. Forgive me if that's how that came across. Instead, I was noting that it was pointed there and I don't know how to re-aim it.

The updater uses two other exes you should whitelist - updaterengine.exe and FantasyGroundsUpdater.exe
I believe Avira also has the option to turn off for 10mins for testing.

The Registry key stuff that Trenloe points to is a good way to remove that pointer to OneDrive.

Thank you so much for all the help! I got OneDrive turned off and Fantasy Grounds re-installed and in the right place. I would be long winded in my praise, but as I type, the DM is screeching goblin talk through my headphones. Our campaign started two hours late but, thanks to your instructions, we started at all. Very appreciated. :D
