Im pretty sure that Unity will have both the current straight peer to peer setup and an option to use a broker.
I dont know if it will have a lobby... I know I wouldnt use a lobby... It would annoy the crap out of the game with people jumping in and out all the time...

They have a 'friends' system so once you're 'friends' with someone it'll check if they're online, and if they have a server open which will pop up on the listing; they might add passwords later but the real thing is how they handled their connections using a super node so it delegates from the user the need to determine if it's local, NAT, or simple modem based before punching through a connection. What's interesting about their network infrastructure is that they determine among the connected peers who can host a game, similar to how modern multiplayer games not based on a server work.

After it determines who can host, it'll encode the contents and multi-cast deliver materials to only be revealed when the GM does so on his client; peer to peer style to distribute the load. It's pretty slick how they thought this through. Currently it's a single guy and very experimental, but the network core is pretty strong from what I've reverse analyzed and tested. There's lessons to be learned here.

Looks pretty cool Ken L. What is this from?
One of Unitys strengths is that you can buy prebuilt modules to do various bits and Im guessing that FG will probably utilise one of the networking modules that are available and build the FG requirements on top of it.
Faster and cheaper than them doing it themselves and saves them from having to become networking specialists to build out that part of the platform.

It looks like Skirmish! VT. I've got it, I'm just in FG 99.999999999999999% of the time. I think I've only been in it twice now.

Would love to know what this is as well! Our cable providers do not allow port forwarding unless and until you actually buy a static IP off of them so.

EDIT: I think is a platform like FG lol. So I dont think it can be used with FG.
