View Full Version : Basilisk's Thread of Stupid Questions

Hey guys, I feel like I'm gonna run afoul of alot of questions as i start my way through this zany adventure that is Fantasy Grounds. I think I run into a problem with the shear wealth of information available, I end up spending forever combing through tangentially connected but unhelpful atm information. So i figure instead of cluttering the forums up with question after question, unless you'd prefer that :P, I plan to lump them all here. I feel like many new players without anyone with experiencing assisting them will run into these, so it might be helpful to new players like me.

QUESTION ONE: Im testing with how everything works, I have an ultimate license. My Wife has a demo account to help me figure things out and we are currently working on character creation. I thought she should have access to everything I do as the GM while we are sharing a connection. Yet she cant see the spells to select her sorcerer's spells, and when i drag and drop them into the chat window she gets an error. how does the GM share resources with players? (Yes, she is logged in through the settings and i see the modules loaded)

Go into Libraries and activate the module and then drag the green sharing icon on to it. Players will then have the option to activate this in their own Library modules window.

QUESTION TWO: Is there Healing Potion automation?

Have a look at this (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/5E_Effects). It shows you how to set up a healing effect. Obviously you'll want better names and description than are in the graphic. Also you can set this up in 'preparation' mode to be usable only once so when it is consumed it goes away and won't come back again until you get another one.
It's probably quite useful to have a read through the rest of that effects article if you are just starting out trying to get your head around them

I dont know if the Healing Potion has any automation... I type +2 in the Modifier and then roll 2d4 and then [CTRL] drag the result on to the players Wounds and that subtracts that number from their wounds....
There are probably better answers... It will actually show this as a Healing action.

Follow these steps as the GM (numbered in the screenshot below):

Roll the 2d4+2 as damned mentions above.
Hold down the CTRL key and drag from the roll result of step #1 and drop on the Wnd column in the combat tracker.
The chat window reflects the -9 being applied to wounds as a healing action.

The player can do a similar process, but they can't drop on the combat tracker - CTRL+drag the roll result number to the HP "Wnd" field on the first (Main) page of the character sheet.

And, in future, if you get an error please let us know what the error is so we have a better idea about what the problem is - telling us you get an error but no details usually doesn't help. We could kinda guess for this one, but that might not be the case in future. :)

And/or look at the error message, it may be informative! ;)

Healing potions are not built in automated. You need to either build an effect or say that you are drinking one, manually lower your inventory, and then roll 2d4 and add 2 and manually adjust your hp (or the DM can adjust)

Something we have done in our Castles & Crusades game is to set up an ATTACK for each heal and just have it apply negative damage.

I have yet to try this in 5E but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Thanks all! I think as i try to google and find stuff in the forums, one of the main hurdles i come across is i know alot of functionality was added in FG3 and most all the data i find is pertinent to Pre-3. So im never sure if the information im getting is correct or just out of date! Being able to drag the dice to the wounds to get it to auto affect them is good advice.

I think the wiki should be up to date, so that's a good place to start. Good luck exploring FG

I have tried [CTRL] dragging and dropping them onto the wounds on the character sheet as the Player, and the combat tracker as the GM, neither seemed to have any affect...

FYI - that won't work in this example, as the roll is not tagged as healing - it is just a number, so dragging a number to a token won't do anything as FG doesn't know what the number is. You need to drag the number to a specific field for it to be appropriately applied - in this case the Wnd field.
