View Full Version : Live and Test FG on the same PC

I thought I'd do this by partitioning my drive and have the live (3.1.7) version on C:\ and the Test version (3.2.0) on F:\

Seems I was wrong - the exe keeps on using whatever settings were used last (from the Registry?)

What is the best way to set up a live and test version?

Is there a way to set a shortcut to use specific settings so that it opens different versions?

Cheers

Pretty sure this has come up before, and as far as I recall, it isn't possible. Could be wrong, but if you haven't, see if you can find a thread on this forum about this topic. Maybe the answer is there.

Good luck

If I go into the settings and point FG to the correct folders (C:\ and F:\) and Live/Test it seems to work OK but I am wondering if there is something like the old INI file to do that automatically. Seems not.

Install FG 3.1.7 to location A.
Export the Registry Key

Install FG 3.2.0 to location B.
Export the Registry Key

Import whichever key for which version you wish to use/run.
You will also need different Data File locations...

Yep, the info is in the registry and you'll need to import the correct version settings before you run the relevant shortcut pointing to the 3.1.7 executable or the 3.2.0 executable.

Be very careful and know what you're doing if you plan to do this. Messing up your registry or running the wrong version of FG against a campaign database could cause data issues with your precious campaigns. Backup and be very methodical in running the correct registry changes before running the correct FG executable for the version you wish to use. So, it's possible to do (technically) but it isn't a supported process.
