Hey guys,

Just curious if there was a way to add a recharge to a PC's Dragonborn breath weapon. We've house ruled a feat to give him the ability but I was wondering if there was a way to make FG keep track of it for us.

Has anyone done this?

I don't know if it works for PCs but for NPCs if you include Recharge 5-6 or some such in the header of the trait it automates recharge. I can't test right now it but you could try it

Edit: actually that's rubbiish. Pretty sure it can't be done. You would need an effect and there isn't one.

Not the optimal solution, but what you could do is set up an extra Damage Die at the end of the effects for D Breath. Set the die itself for 1D6, and set the damage description as 'DBreath Recharge' or something like that. After that, just make sure that you are not targeting anyone when you press it. Not perfect, but its all I could come up with at this time.

Make an NPC in the combat tracker called "Breath Recharge", set him to green, and put the effect 'DMGO: 1d6' on it. Give it the same initiative as the dragonborn (or 1 or 50 however you're doing the recharge). Each round, it will take damage, which is irrelevant, but everyone will see the roll and the dragonborn will know to recharge the breath or not.

I found the effect. Its buried but if you have a dragon in the combat tracker with a used breath weapon it automatically applies a status effect: "RCHG: X Y" Where X is the d6 roll that the ability will recharge on and Y is the name of the ability. It doesn't apply automatically so the player has to manually apply the effect to themselves when they use the ability but then it automatically rolls the d6 and informs the player when there ability is recharged and then dismisses itself.

So if you want your PC Dragonborns to be able to recharge their breath on a 5 or 6 give them an effect with the following text:

RCHG: 5 Breath Weapon; [SELF]

When they use the ability, have them apply the effect and everything is automatic from there.
So, now that we've figured that out, does anyone have any ideas regarding how to have this effect apply automatically when the ability is used?

How interesting. This is actually the second undocumented feature that I've seen in the last couple of days. I'll add it to the Wiki when I get a minute. Well spotted

Thanks! I was so very proud of myself ^_^
But mostly, I'm just happy that I don't have to keep reminding my absent-minded Dragonborn PC to roll for his recharge

There was a recent 5e extension built that adds effects automatically when you drag a character into the ct. I tested it and it seems to work. Pretty cool extension.

Looks like a useful extension but not quite what I need since its designed for permanent, passive abilities. I'm just looking for something that applies an effect when an ability is used. Basically I'm looking to be a bit more lazy and not have the extra click to apply the effect after the breath weapon is used.

Got it. I missed the part about applying the effect when the abiity is used.

There are NPCs that when you use an ability it marks them as [USED] and then automatically does a recharge roll at the start of there turn. Not sure if this could be adapted to a PC though. And I'm at work so can test to see what I can figure out. I see this frequently on PotA, though I think I saw it with LMoP as well.

No, it doesn't work quite like this on a PC; it just makes an automatic roll at the start of the PCs turn if they have the recharge effect on them. It also doesn't actually stop them from using the breath weapon or whatever either so it's just really a kind of reminder. The effect comes off the PC if the roll succeeds and it outputs the success to chat.
