Thursday Nights UK – GMT/BST) - Lost Mine of Phandelver - Beginners and returning players welcome

FG License: Ultimate (anyone can join the game, including free users)

Game System: D&D5E, Lost Mine of Phandelver

Day of week and time: Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm

Time Zone: GMT save for between Sunday, March 26th, 2017 and Sunday, 29 October 2017 when UK is on British Summertime (BST).

For Americans, please note that UK (GMT) is normally 5 hours ahead of US EST. During BST, one hour is added to GMT.

Please note that daylight savings in most US locations begins on Sunday, the 12th of March, 2017, two weeks before the UK switches to BST (GMT+1 hour) on Sunday, the 26th of March, 2017. During these two weeks, the UK will be only four hours ahead of EST. On the 26th of March the UK will be five hours ahead of EST.

On Sunday, the 29th of October, 2017, BST ends, but US DST continues so the UK will only be 4 hours ahead of EST until the 5th of November 2016, when US DST then also ends and the the UK is back to being 5 hours ahead of EST.

Campaign started on: Thursday, August 18th 2015.

We will seek to have sessions last no more than 3 to 3.5 hours.

Planned Frequency: As agreed with players, every 2 weeks, or on occasion 3 weeks (I'm married with kids).

Term: We will on beginning the campaign consider long term options (possibility of carrying on into Hoard of the Dragon Queen, etc.) before completing LMOP adventure.

Text or Voice: Voice

Voice software used: Teamspeak

Roleplay & Combat mix: 50/50

Number of Players in game & needed: 8/7

Character starting level & equipment: Starting level is 1, all standard equipment as defined by class. Pregens available or you can make a character an hour prior to game time on the server. We may do this a few nights before we begin playing.

My house rule for starting characters is this: Players can choose to roll 4d6 and drop the lowest die for all abilities. If you don’t like your rolls, for whatever reason, use can simply use the array 15,14,13,12,10,8.

Inspiration points: may be used after a fail without announcing beforehand your intention to use inspiration, and you can give your inspiration point to another player at any time (but you must seriously make an effort to call out, sing, describe your action in doing so to lend something to the session.

Those who played a session can vote before the start of the next session for another player to get a player's choice inspiration point before the start of the next session. To count, player's votes need to be on the calendar listing page. Inspiration points will expire at the end of the second session following when you first received it.

Permitted Books: (races, classes, spells, etc.): PHB, DMG, SCAG, EE, PoTA, Book of Lost Spells, Fifth Edition Feats, Ultimate NPC's Skullduggery's equipment and spells, Volo's Guide to Monsters'races and spell (1), and the new or revised classes, races, feats, etc. in the Dungeon Masters Guild FG mod of the Unearthed Arcana articles from Wizards of the Coast.

Character restrictions:,no aarakocra permitted. No evil alignments.

Details of scenario: The Lost Mine of Phandelver introductory module from the starter set is geared for beginner players, but experienced players are definitely also welcome (or welcomed back). Please note that while I have dm’ing experience, I don't claim to know every single D&D 5e rule or be familiar with all released errata.

If you are interested in playing then please post below with some details about yourself including your location and experience playing the game or other role-playing games. Let me know what character and race you want to play. I don't need a back story at this point(although you’re welcome to provide one to me), as I expect to be offering you some further background details before play begins.

DM's Request: If after signing up you decide that this campaign is not for you, or that you cannot make a game session after signing up; please just let me know in either a post here, or post in the calendar. We all know that things happen and real life may interrupt.

If still interested, please post here AND on the calendar. No shows seem to be from players signing up on the game calendar only. Therefore, I will only accept players who make the effort to also post in the forum thread. Thanks for your time reading this post.

Hey again,

I'm a 34-year old American postgrad student studying in the UK. I'm married but don't have any kids. A pair of dogs keep me busy enough. I've never played 5e but have been playing RPGs for about 25(ish) years and have previously played 3e, 4e, Pathfinder, and have tried out most of the bigger RPGs once or twice. I'm pretty new to FG with only two sessions under my belt so far.

I'm thinking of playing a tiefling from Calimshan named Khmed the Goat...I see him as a shepherd who became a petty thief when his flock, his only source of income, was killed. I've got a rudimentary backstory cooked up but those are the basics.

This time is perfect for me incidentally, as is the frequency. Thanks for your willingness to run the game!

Steve

Hello I´m a 42-year old Salvadorean. Complete newbee to FG. I ran a couple of one-shots for my son and his friends two years ago but I have never played with "adults" as a player.
Thank you for your time and willingness to run a game for beginners.
I´ll sign up in the calendar.

Lyradan is an Evereskan cleric of Aerdrie Faenya, making his weary way through the world. He preached to the Evereskans of the doom that is coming, but his sermons have fallen upon deaf ears amongst his fellow elves. He turned his back on his fellows and made his way west to the coast, and north to Neverwinter. If he cannot save his people through words alone, he must save it through learning all he can of the world - and find out what is behind the nightmares that plague his sleep.

The character is an Elven Storm Cleric, probably with the Hermit background (to explain the nightmares). The player is a 35 year old, work as an enterprise architect. Also did my undergrad at Durham University, so hi there Steve! Thursday evenings would be a good time for me. I sometimes have a noisy background and can't listen to voice comms but I'm happier typing stuff out into FG anyhow. I have played through LMOP before (1.5 times!) but it's good fun and I'm hoping this will turn into a campaign.

For those players that don't want to use the player pre-gens and want to make a character under my house-rule I will be available an hour prior to game time on the server on Thursday.

However, to the extent possible it would be helpful for players to have logged in online to the FG server session prior to Thursday to download the relevant player books/ modules you may need in creating your character. So that you can do this, I'll have the server/FG session running and available to you between 7:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday till about 11:00 pm or later.

I will be available on Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:00 pm to witness attribute rolls (You simply type or paste in the chatbox six times "/roll 4d6 1"), but you may want to pm me whenever ready and I will try to be available. Following this, you can add race and class options etc. (which may then be require changes to your attributes) and purchase your weapons, armour, gear, etc.

PM me if there are other times you want to log in to download the books or roll attributes.

"In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days' travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found "something big," and that he'd pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen's Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to "take care of business.""

I will have some connections for players to consider your character taking on as part of his or her backstory. However, I would be grateful if you would consider before Thursday how your characters came to know your dwarf patron, Gundren Rockseeker, and have some type of story as to how you met and/or know Gundren.

NOTE: A FEW QUICK POINTS:

Players please take note, I don't like having skill rolls be always visible. This goes on at a live game I play on Sundays and it is silly when someone rolls a 25 for example on a search for traps and waits for the dm's response. It shouldn't be so mathematical for the players. I prefer to have such rolls be hidden using the tower as a general rule - this will make the game more interesting. I can then tell you the result and how confident you might be (which may be high when you are wrong). And don't presume if you see the shadow of a die roll from the tower that something is always up. I might do just so for no reason at all.

Gutted! Well I've checked my ports, my firewall on my router, tried turning firewall on and off again on my PC, jumped into the DMZ, nothing. Since I can run the test server, I'm tempted to say it's not my fault! (Although I can't find an online server to test).

I apologise for tonight but after setting up the FG server etc. for player downloading all books etc., and creating characters in advance of Thursday game, I developed a massive headache and felt quite ill. I could not even look at a screen and definitely could not write a posting or p.m.

Really sorry about this. I am fine now. I doubt there will be any i.t. problems once I can be present . We'll do this Wednesday night (tonight) or tomorrow night as you wish.

For tonight, and the campaign generally, on the main Teamspeak page for FG at "ts.fg-con.com", I have created a sub-channel on Teamspeak called "dm-kevin - LMOP". If this does not work, I suggest Skype as an alternative. My Skype name in "Thul1". If Skype is necessary, it would be best if one of the players host the skype call rather than myself as this then does not drain the dm's bandwidth.

I am not familiar with Discord, but would need to know more about it.

dmkevin
August 17th, 2016, 14:24

"dead ogre able pirate" is the code to enter.

I would like to take that spot, I have been gaming for years. Bought Fantasy grounds in 2009 and got away from it. Found it again by accident reloaded my sub and decided to get back into the VTT gaming again. I like your idea with skill rolls going into the tower. As for a character I would like a tiefling warlock. I will try and roll some stats at prior to the game start I have the rest of the character completed except states. See you in a few hours, if you will have me.

I have just bought Fifth Edition Feats and Book of Lost Spells.

As we just effectively started (barring some "recon" which did not go well), before the date of the next LMOP session I will set up a date for any of you who may want to log in and look at the newly available spells or feats, and possibly exchange spells or feats, etc.

As Morkelb is unable to make future sessions, we have a spot open again.

Only an opinion... but if I have 3/5 I will run the session. Helps form the habit and the players that arent there and miss out will itch that much harder to be there next time. And the players that have reserved the time get their game :)

Hi guys,

Thank you very much to those players who have confirmed for the 22nd of September.

I would really be grateful if all other players (or most) listed as active on the game calendar could before each session please confirm yes or no as to their attendance. It is helpful as DM to plan for the encounters in the session, etc.

If you can no longer make it or no longer want to play for whatever reason, please simply confirm same to me by pm or email so I can permit new players to join..

Sorry for the whinge.

Hi dmkevin you might find you have more success setting a day and time and frequency and sticking with it. Call it every second Thursday 730pm (or whatever it is) and people need to let you know at least 48hrs out f they cant make it. Keeping it on a defined schedule is often easier for people to reserve and commit to. Just a suggestion :) Just popped in because i heard my name...!

im down to play i have a few character ideas im messing with. the time would be around 1130am for me on the best day for me to play.

29 yr old male fairly new player to d and d, brand spanking new to FG

Character Meliodas
race tiefling variant with wings,
war cleric for the goddess Leria.
background charlatan

chaotic good- my character is very deceptive and persuasive but would never do anything intentionally to hurt the group. Getting information has become a second nature.

backstory- Abandoned from my demon mother Skoma on the island of Nimbral , My Character took up blacksmithing before joining up with the mistwalkers and became a cleric. My brethren took our goddess divine blessing to use illusion spells my background in Smithing allowed me to take the path of war. I'm currently on a secret mission to find information on my goddess and her supposed death and started my travels.

character lupia
race Halfling
Monk way of the open hand
background sailor
neutral good

backstory- i was the outcast at my monistary of loufo where i was trained in hand to hand combat and found myself looking for more in my life. i left the monastery to travel the world as a sailor. while still honing my skills i started to teach the crew the ways of the open hand.

i also have an idea about a dragonborne Sorcerer but not as quite detailed out yet.

Players, If you have not yet levelled up to level 5 already, please do so before next session. This will be on Thursday, 22 June, 2017 at 7:30 pm (19:30) GMT. Please confirm attendance on the game calendar.

It look like we have one or two sessions left - you've rescued Gundren Rockseeker and have a map for Wave Echo Cave. You're heading back to Phandelver to return Gundren and discuss matters with Sildar Hallwinter. On the way back you may want to meet with the hobgoblin (Haralf) you spared and after discussions you arranged to meet again in two weeks concerning the hobgoblin army movements. You will next be tackling Wave Echo Cave.

Hello Kevin,

I am a 35 yo American living in Denver CO and I am interested in finding a long term campaign group that meets every 2 or 3 weeks as allowed. I am married with a 3 year old and am in graduate school as well so this makes it hard for me to find a group to play with in person during the times I have free. Your campaign would be perfect for both time and as it sounds like, style of RPing.

I have played DnD since I was about 12 years old, 2nd edition on, played deeply in 3.5 and Pathfinder but then skipped 4e and then have not had a chance to game in a long time. I decided to check out 5e and really like the streamlined rules and character class builds. I am new to FG and am excited to try it out!

I have played pretty much every character class but have a soft spot for finesse melee fighters, rogue-like martial types, psionics, arcanists (sorcerers-Cha based spellcasters), monks and clerics. I would be happy to roll any of those characters based on team make-up preferences, etc....

I would be comfortable jumping in at any level but really love the mid-game levels the most, it seems to be where characters really hit their stride, not too powerful but have enough options to mix it up....

Please let me know if there are any open spots available, I did not see your game on the calendar from the link you posted. Thanks for your time and consideration, I hope to meet in game soon!

Cheers!

Adam

I will be up for this, I'm also from the uk, only issue sometimes I work until 10pm, so possible me mite having to miss one sometimes but I know my shifts 3-4 weeks in advance.

I normally play dwarfs or halfings btw, Clerics, Rangers, Rogues, Barbs, Beastmaster, Fighter sometimes Paladins but I'm not a fan of wizards/sorcs.

Hi, I'm from Belgium and I've been looking for a euro-time based group. Are there still open slots for this game? For more info about me, check this post: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?39391-LFG-1-Player-LF-Weeknight-Game-Wed-or-Thurs-CET-Euro-Time-Zone-5E&p=347794&viewfull=1#post347794

Hi there. I'm interested in getting involved with this. I have fantasy grounds but haven't used it yet really only practiced and would like to get a feel for it as a player hopefully leading to hosting some games as GM sometime.

I am based in the UK but work shifts. I am working night shift this Thursday. But will be available most of the time.

Thanks.

For those asking to join this appears to be a game that started last summer.

Hello,

This is the exact game schedule I've been searching for!!! I'm a 44 year old professional with a wife, two kids, and I work a graveyard shift in the PST -8 time zone with tues-thurs off.

For me, I'd like a biweekly late night game on a Wednesday or Thursday which your game is. In a nutshell I'd really like to play in your game.

I've been playing D&D and other games since red box. I have tons of experience at the table, but no experience with FG. For obvious reasons with a family, getting to a table top game is near impossible, so I have turned to Virtual Table Top in hopes of fulfilling my gaming needs. I have some experience running, but most of my time has been as a player.

I'm prompt, reliable, respectful, have a good sense of humor, and enjoy intrigue, problem solving, role-playing, and of course combat.

My initial character idea in a Wood Elf Monk or High Elf Mystic since you allow for UA. However, I'd be willing to play something different to help round out the party. If I played something else it would most likely be an Elf (not a drow), Half-elf, or human. Outside of the monk class I'd lean toward a Wizard, Sorcerer.

Thank you for your consideration,

Mats.

hey Mats-Fu, DMkevin is in England so he is 7 or 8 hours ahead of you, evenings in his time zone is afternoons for you. When looking in the game calendar, make sure you have edited your profile to show all times in your time zone, it will do the conversion for you, otherwise everything is standardized to GMT, it's a little confusing.

I am also in your boat with a kid and family life, LF a bi-weekly game. DMkevin is looking to start a campaign that runs bi-weekly in the afternoons our time on Thursdays (his evenings) not sure who and how many players he has so far, it is not yet posted in the game calendar.

this is the link to the game calendar if you have not see it yet: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/calendar/
you can organize by TMZ and most recent activity, also the forums, as you have found are a good place to connect.

Hope to see you in game, cheers!

Thanks for the heads up Adam, I'll keep an eye out for DMkevin's game as I'm still looking for a group, and I'll make some adjustments in my profile to fix my time zone.

Hope to see you in a game too.
