This is an ongoing and currently full Savage Worlds game in The Last Parsec setting. We've been asked to move out of the LFG forum and I don't see a forum specifically for ongoing games, so this looked like the most appropriate group to post in so our group could share information about our adventures and trash talk each other with reckless abandon. Let me know if somewhere else would be more appropriate.

Game Introduction:
Maybe your parents were troubleshooters. Maybe you're on the run from something or someone. Or maybe you just needed money and JumpCorp was hiring. People become troubleshooters for all sorts of reasons. But you are a new hire.

You've come to the frontier, to the new Dark Frontier Sector JumpCorp outpost. An orbiting station over a lifeless rock rich in ore valuable to construction on the very edge of known space, the station houses over ten thousand JumpCorp employees dedicated to pushing into the darkness. Only a day ago, you were assigned quarters and moved in your meagre personal belongings. The shops are closed today, and you haven't been able to buy anything yet. They'll open tomorrow.

Your commlink beeps. "Troubleshooter Team Charlie, report to dock 6A, the Volturnan Star, for immediate debarkation." Looks like you won't be shopping after all. You secure your room and grab your company issued commlink and Personal Data Device and hurry to Dock 6A. Your first assignment.

You are greeted at the airlock by a human man who appears to be in his late 30s.

"I'm Devin Mathias, First Officer, Volturnan Star. Head for Briefing Room 1 on the lower deck."

You follow the signs to the briefing room. Your team gathers here over about 15 minutes. As the last team member boards the ship, the intercom belts out a few orders, likely from the captain.

"All hands, stand by for undocking maneuvers."
"Helm, set course for Tirest 3, maximum speed."
"All hands, stand by the jump to FTL."

After a few minutes, as the last team member enters, a Parasteen crew member enters.

"Tirac Fil, Science Officer", she says simply. The voice is flat and without emotion. The suit contains the corpse of a middle aged woman animated by the sentient parasite. She sits at the table.

The JumpCorp logo flashes briefly on the screen, before being replaced by a human male. He's young, perhaps mid twenties, with dark hair and wears a well groomed goatee.

"Team, good to see you all here. I'm Gerald Virgrave. I usually go by Jerry. I'll be your handler."

The viewscreen switches to a lifeless desert world viewed from orbit.

"This is Tirest 3, out in dark space. A robotic probe flagged it as having a high probability of very rich ores just below the surface. Four weeks ago, a geological team was dispatched to investigate and evaluate it for exploitation. The team reported in 6 hours prior to their scheduled arrival in the system that all was well. We haven't heard anything since. Mission protocol was to contact us every week at least. They've missed two checkins."

"Your mission is to track down the team and / or the ship. Find out what happened to them. Rescue if necessary and possible, recover equipment or make sure it's on task if possible. The Volturnan Star is an escort class vessel. It can outgun nearly anything it can't outrun. It will take you to the planet and stay in orbit while you investigate using shuttles. It can provide fire support and supplies as needed."

"Equipment for the mission is kept in the cargo bay. Weapons, ammunition, and explosives are required to be kept in the weapons locker on the bridge. They'll be issued as needed. You're limited to your PDDs and Commlinks while aboard the ship."

"A Synoptic Teacher will install some basic Planet Knowledge and survival information before you go down. Use it just before you arrive and you'll have the information for a week before it fades."

"Travel time to Tirest 3 is two weeks. Any questions?"

First Session Summary:

As you approached your destination, most of the crew was murdered by the First Officer, Devin Mathias. He tried to trick you into staying in your quarters. When that failed, he tried to convince you to "restart the engines". You were met by the ship's medic who seemed to know nothing about what was happening. Gunny stayed with Devin as he went to the bridge.

As Gunny tried to notify the rest of the party of the Captain's demise on the bridge, Devin drew his laser pistol on Gunny. Cragg checked the engines and found they were working, but the autopilot was locked onto a specific set of coordinates on the planet's surface. The rest of the party moved to assist Gunny and overpowered Devin, knocking him unconcious.

The Ship's weapon's locker had been destroyed by an explosion from within. You realized the ship was now entering an atmosphere. After some futile attempts to save the ship, everybody made it to the shuttle bay to find one shuttle missing and the other slightly damaged.

Everyone piled into the remaining shuttle, taking the only surviving crew member, the ship's medic, with them. The unconcious Devin was left behind, and shot for good measure on the way out. Holly guided the shuttle out of the shuttle bay and opened the distance before the Volturnan Star exploded nearby. The shuttle was thrown, the Volturnan Star's medic was mortally wounded, and the shuttle crash landed in the clearing of a forest.

You realized the Volturnan Star had not arrived at Tirest 3 as planned, but instead at Tirest 4. Making camp for the first night, you spotted a lighted temporary / portable subspace antenna to the north, maybe 2-3 kilometers distant. At dawn, you began marching for the antenna.

At this point, the world server crashed because the GM didn't have the encounters prepared for the next part.

So we get recruited to figure out why a survey ship hasn't been responding from a desert planet and loaded up on a ship. We arrive to discover that the First Mate has mutinied and murdered most of the rest of the crew. The ship is on an auto-pilot collision course with the wrong planet. We barely make it to the one remaining damaged shuttle and down to the surface, but the one remaining crew member doesn't survive the landing. With the weapon locker on the ship having exploded and not having had time to purchase any personal gear, we are now stuck with a pistol, canteen, and minimal survival gear each. The comm station in the distance most likely is being used by allies of the First Mate, but since he died before we got an opportunity to question him, that's only speculation. Still, we don't really have a better plan of action, so off to the comm array it is then. Off to a rousing start of our JumpCorp careers.

Rigesh gives this adventure four thumbs up!

BDaniel
August 3rd, 2016, 21:36
Well Gunny found a Tootsie Roll and some Beef Jerky in his survival kit, so he is happy. As for questioning the 1st mate.....well that might have happened if it were not for the horrible accident Gunny had while running to the shuttle. He had intended on grabbing the 1st mate for evac and follow on interrogation but as fate would have it Gunny zigged when the crashing ship zagged, which caused him to loose a laser bolt into the 1st mates brain housing group. I agree with Rigesh. It seems our best COA would be to move to the com uplink and use it to radio Jump Corps for immediate extraction. The question will be do we attack or make peace with those in possession of the communications node. Gunny will be submitting himself in for the Iridium Nova medal for his gallant action aboard the Voltran Star.

Session 2 Summary:
You ran across a stream in the forest and found a panther. A hungry panther. Despite your best efforts to scare it off, it had to be put down.

You pressed on toward the tower and discovered a lone guard at the base of a loading ramp belonging to a mid sized armed spacecraft, the Darkfall Comet. Nearby was a cave in the side of a hill you believe was drilled by mining equipment.

Boarding the ship, you found it occupied by pirates. You engaged in some aggressive diplomacy, killing everyone you saw. A couple of grenades went off at your feet, leaving you completely unimpressed and certain the gods have blessed you.

The communications and control systems were locked out, requiring a passkey or hours to days of decryption efforts. Though the ship had no logs, the various ship systems kept their own activity logs. They showed the Comet lifted off from Tirest 4 3 weeks ago*, traveled to Tirest 3, waited in orbit for several hours, then fired on a ship dropping out of FTL into Tirest 3 orbit. The ship took a surprising pounding, lasting 5 minutes before being destroyed. A number of escape pods left the ship, and most were destroyed before the Comet's weapon system malfunctioned. A single escape pod made it to the surface of Tirest 3. You've made note of the landing coordinates. The Comet then returned and landed at the same spot on Tirest 4 where you found it. There is no further record of abnormal (non-routine) activity. Examining the specifications closely, the ship destroyed over Tirest 3 matches the information you have regarding the geological survey ship sent by JumpCorp.

You have cleared the Comet of all hostiles and are discussing your plans regarding the cave and what mysteries it may hold. One of your few clues from the cargo bay was equipment for the decryption and analysis of ancient crystaline computer systems belonging to long dead empires. This equipment is very specialized and very rare.

*Correction: These events were 5 weeks ago, not three weeks ago. GM forgot you spent two weeks watching in flight movies on the way to the system.

Session 3 Summary:

After securing the captured pirate ship, you entered the nearby hole drilled into the side of a hill. It took about 10 minutes of walking down the hole until you entered an enormous natural cavern, around 2 miles across. Near the center of the ceiling was a bright glowing light, effectively creating a sunlight level illumination for the whole cavern. On the floor of the cavern was a large and ancient city composed of buildings which appeared to be made of precious gemstones (ruby, emerald, sapphire, etc). On closer inspection, the buildings had a slight metallic quality; they were made of a material you were unfamiliar with. While most of the city appeared abandoned, the center of the city included structures with interior illumination.

You began making your way to the city center and encountered another group of pirates, a couple soldiers protecting 4 technicians. One of the technicians escaped and tossed a fist sized drone into the air. You took a shot at it, but were not able to hit such a small, fast target. You continued forward and ran into a large well armed group of soldiers and attack dogs. The dogs went down quickly, but then it turned into a game of hot potato with grenades. Gunny grabbed a grenade for himself, and one of the pirates cooked a grenade a bit too long. In the end, you were able to kill the pirates, but both Gunny and Holly were seriously injured. Quickly checking the pirates commlinks, you heard them talking about firing coordinates. You made it out of the area before a mortar battery dropped party favors.

Returning to the ship, Cragg tried to jury rig a communications system but realized it just wasn't going to be possible. However, he does think he can use the equipment to jam the pirates communications and drones. The group made good use of the well stocked medbay and prepared to return to the rabbit hole for more fun later.

BDaniel
August 18th, 2016, 05:23
Next time Gunny is going to let Holly be the hero and push her on the next grenade. That last grenade left an owie or 3 to be precise. At least he can receive the Iridium Supernova in person from Jump Corps instead of posthumously. We really could have used the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch or at least the vorpal bunny for our last fight. It was great fight though but Gunny is still cleaning the medi-gel out of his crevices.

Session 4 Summary:
Crag managed to jam the enemy communications and also rigged up a drone of your own. You launched the drone and found the only activity was a series of checkpoints arranged around the city's center. You tried to sneak between two of the checkpoints, but a couple people managed to stumble over million year old trash cans attracting the attention of the two nearby groups. You quickly dispatched both groups and continued forward to the city center.

At the center, you found what appeared to be an ancient government building with 5 mortars and pirates operating them on the roof. The pirates were oblivious to your approach, and you mercilessly gunned them all down before they could react at all. Your mothers would be proud.

Entering the building, you confronted the leader of the pirates, an enormous human named Zeerac. Rigesh ran forward and threatened everyone. Zeerac was unimpressed and instantly gutted Rigesh with a machete. Before he could hurt anyone else, the entire party gunned him down and the remaining pirates fled.

You healed Rigesh and discovered Zeerac had committed suicide rather than be captured. Searching his corpse, you found a security dongle which allowed you to activate the ship's systems. More imporantly, you discovered the pirates were working on an ancient computer system.

Leaving the city behind, you activated the ship and discovered the pirates had sent a distress message. Upon achieving orbit, you detected another ship entering the system. They contacted you and tried to identify you. You failed to convince them you were the pirates, and their ship left the system without further interaction.

You traveled to Tirest 3 and rescued the last surviving member of the geological expedition, Albin Talloc. He informed you that Tirest 3 was worthless. The planet's magnetic field was giving false positive readings. You reported in to Gerald Virgrave and explained all you'd found.

Upon returning to the Dark Frontier Sector JumpCorp Outpost, you were given your pay ($7000) and issued the Meritorious Achievement award for an extra 1 xp and $700.

It appears the pirates had found a valuable computer system on Tirest 4. When they discovered JumpCorp was sending an expedition to Tirest 3, they realized a valuable find there would draw more ships and the computer system would be discovered. They destroyed the geological expedition in an effort to delay JumpCorp's response, likely hoping to finish their work on the computer before JumpCorp could bring significant forces to bear.

The question still remains, what was Devin Mathias's connection to the pirates?

I may hop on to see if I can help Mac get his computer set up as a GM.

D, if you end up bowing out, then we'll catch up with you somewhere down the road!

RPW, hope the turret move went well...

Set up the calendar event with voting for the next two weeks. I have invited you all to join. So please accept the calendar and vote if you will be available. If the time is wrong let me know the game is Wed 8pm Eastern Time. My plan at this time will be to port in the PCs from Dark Frontiers and carry on if that is what you all wish to do or we can generate up new ones.

If you are running it on Mondays (as the calendar entry says) then I will be out because I am unavailable that night. Any other night (Except Fridays) I may be available

Ok. Corrected Calendar to reflect correct Dates, times and month. Meh, was my first time setting up an event on the calendar.
So now I need you fellas to accept your invites on the calendar. Also I could use some assistance with a connection issue. When I test the connection it fails. Also when I run a second instance of FG and try to connect it fails. Reading in the forums it will likely be the port 1802 issue, so this computer neanderthal will attempt to fix the issue before Wed. FYI I am dead in the path of the storm that is to hit Florida, If you don't here from me by Monday on this forum then my power or internet may still be out and I will likely have to cancel for the 7th.

Respawning- I sent you a PM with my email IOT forward the PC XML's.

I have no intention of bowing out. I could use help on getting my puter set up to GM. The issue other than the port thing is that I may not have power or internet because of the hurricane. The eye is going to make land fall on my front door. LOL I have spent 2 late nights getting my **** together to give you guys a good time. Hell Tuesday it was a 0400 bed time, I was trying like hell to have something for Wed but then I ran into the port issue. I say again, I am not bowing out, It is just that mother nature gets a vote this week. Now if Mac is set up to run one this coming Weds then by all means lets roll and I will catch the next one.

Thanks damned. I will hopefully hit you up in a few days. I don't want to try it tonight because I am likely to lose power. Power is already fluctuating and I expect to lose it anytime now. Got a Hurricane coming in and I would hate to be in the middle of fixing it and drop off the net.

I think we got a miscommunication. I meant D As in Daedalus, not D As in BDaniel. Presuming the hurricane doesn't wash you out to sea, we'll see you when you're ready!

Alright fellas. Power has been restored and I have the XML's. Just got to get the port issue fixed and we should be in business for Wed.

Dadelus: I have Hollies XML and will make some minor adjustments.
1. Correct hip to chest ration.
2. Increase bust size.
3 Add overly exposed female body armor.
4. Add red hair and green eyes.
5. Add cyberware for remote access shut down of Hollies verbal communication.

That should fix her right up.

Haha! If you need help with the port forwarding issues B, let me know. I'm happy to lend a hand there..should only take a short bit, hopefully. Glad power is restored!

Excellent to hear! At some point, might need one of you to get with Mac40k to help him sort out his issues. He has the extra complication of trying to operate out of Costa Rica...

BDaniel
September 5th, 2016, 18:05
Alright. I am fully mission capable. Power and port issue resolved. I will host the game Wed 7 Sep @ 8 pm EST.
Dadelus and MAC40k still need you guys to accept your invites and click go or no go for attending. I will use the calendar and this forum for communication. I will also send ALCON the FG: Alias and TS Channel/PW via PM. FYI Respawning has forwarded all the PC's from Dark Frontiers IOT carry over. If you wish to create new PC's that will be fine.
Creation Rules:
Start: Standard SW rule set, Scifi Companion, TLP Core, 12xp, 2 advances, 7k in a combination of gear/credits(note: no ultra high tech).

Daedalus
September 5th, 2016, 20:49
Wait, so are we starting a new mission with another mission while there are two outstanding missions that aren't finished? Are we creating new characters again?

BDaniel
September 5th, 2016, 23:42
Daedalus,
We are continuing Dark Frontiers...in a way. No need to roll up new characters because I have imported the Dark Frontier character XML's. But as my PM said if you feel you need a new PC then by all means do it. My intention all along was to carry on Dark Frontiers ...in a branch plan that can be easily reincorporated back into Respawnings campaign. You will have to come on in Wednesday night to find out.....

I would like to know you alls preference on session length and start times. Right now I attempted to maintian the status quo. If you would prefer a earlier or later start and/or a 3 or 4 hour session. At this time I am running off the assumption that of a 8pm start and 4 hr session. If this needs to be changed let me know

I am going to be dropping out of this game. Sorry all. I like the group and the story. But I'm leaving you for a younger game.

I've been dying (so to speak) to play VtM and it doesn't appear as an option very often because FG doesn't natively support it. A game is just getting started in it and I'll be joining that.

Again, nothing against this group or anyone in it. I've had a great time.
Feel free to use fugly Ed as a bullet sponge until his health runs out.
So long, and thanks for all the grenades.

So it appears we won't be wrapping back around to Respawing's game after all. Hmm, this is an interesting situation. Not sure what to do here.

Well good luck Respawningpleasewait and come on back if you get tired of blood sucking.

Change FragO on circling back to Dark Frontiers, well I guess your just stuck with me Daedalus:p
At least for now!

Gunbunny was also interested in providing DM support so he could step up if he still wants to. If Mac can get his issues resolve, he said something about running Nemesis? If we're really hard up, I can take a crack at it, but it's not my strong suit. I have a few plot ideas I can throw out as one shot side plots to help out if needed.

Adios Respawn, have fun in your new venture. I'm sure we'll see you down the road somewhere/sometime. Not sure what VtM is, but it sounds new and as such, I must fear and shun it at this time...

Copy all. I am good right now unless you fellas want to fire me. If so I am cool with that also.
VtM- when I asked the intergalactic google it came back "vampire the masquerade". Now this could be incorrect.

I do have one fella that signed up and placed on the standby list. I have sent him a PM to see if he is still interested and for a short bio. I will forward to the group for vote on acceptance or not.

Just a nit pick- it's DM when it's D&D, it's GM all other times since most other games you aren't in a dungeon

Well...if you're playing VtM the "DM" is called Storyteller...for Castles and Crusades it's CK, short for Castle Keeper...:) I tend to use DM most of the time...Though I also answer to GM, Hey You, and Dungeon Bastard when I'm running a table top game. :)

I'm happy to run the occasional mission, or pick up and run with whatever. I'll certainly need to get time to get up to speed, though, as my free time is currently being eaten up by prepping Temple of Elemental Evil in Castles and Crusades...I'm running it via table top, and using FG to handle combat, notes, etc. etc. Also doing some 5E planning and prep for a soon-to-be-run Saturday game if I can swing the time.

In response to your question about best time to run, I'm OK with any start after 6p Eastern. My max cut off time is around 11:00 p to 11:30 on Tuesdays, as I've got an early wake-up for exercise and prepping for work, so a 3 hour time slot works best for me if we're starting at 8p.

I am good with starting at 8. Right now I have too much to do to start any earlier and depending on my schedule, I may need to drop to free up time. I am trying to not have to drop.

Have you talked to that other person who posted interest and found out whether they are going to play or not so we have at least 5 players?

@ Daedalus I hope you can work out the time management issue but I understand the need for prioritization. If you depart you will be sorely missed, it will be tough finding another curmudgeon . To answer your question, yes I have reached out to gorechirst and received negative response. I will discuss our options with the group and see if you all want to advertise on the LFG forum to get an extra player or 2.
