View Full Version : D&D Adventurers League mods on the DMsGuild

Several D&D Adventurers League modules have been converted to the Fantasy Grounds .mod format and are now available as part of the adventure purchase on the DMsGuild.

Adventure designers can convert or have their adventure converted for Fantasy Grounds and uploaded to the DMsGuild if they wish.

There’s a couple of ways to go about this, if you’d like:

Convert the adventure yourself within Fantasy Grounds, if you’re familiar with making adventure in it.
Convert the adventure yourself, using tools to parse the PDF to the require XML files. This should only be done if you’re familiar with such tools, such as Par5e for Fantasy Grounds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ-SLy-zYec&list=PLePiBJtKmjLn5IzhpakEcVqAHoYfezZbe&index=5).
Acquire the services of someone who can do the above. (feel free to offer your services below if you're able to do such a thing for the AL designers and how they can get in contact with you)

Once converted they should be emailed to the DMsGuild product specialist ([email protected]) be sure to include the file and a link to the DMsGuild product page of the adventure. Also, include any text you'd like for the updated product description. I used, "Also included in the purchase of this adventure is a version specially converted for use with the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop software. The converted adventure features all the text and maps from the original adventure along with cross-linking of monsters, spells, magic items, equipment, and story elements, plus the powerful rules automation for which Fantasy Grounds is known.".

The updated adventures are available on the DMsGuild by Filtering by Virtual Table (http://www.dmsguild.com/browse.php?filters=45470_0_0_0_0_0_45545_0&affiliate_id=282191)

If you as a designer upload your adventure please comment and I'll update this list. Or if you as a purchaser notice a designer has updated please comment.

Looking at this from the consumer angle (rather than from the developer angle) I have a couple of questions. If I purchase the entire season (at a discount from the individual adventure price) do I get the modules -- how about the modules that aren't yet added to the list? I'm happy to purchase them one by one...if I must.

Raddu

This is from OneBookShelf/DMsGuild

Any time a FG file is added to an existing adventure, the FG file will go out free to all previous purchasers.

Anyone who purchases an adventure whether as a single or in the season bundles get the same product and therefore all the files and future file updates for each constituent adventure in the bundle.

This news is amazing. I have purchased all the things (technically I had already purchased all the things, but the updates are great.)

It was even greater when I was able to discern where my module folder was... Happy day!

One issue: Dark Rites at Fort Dalton is only 86k because it contains no images or maps. Was that intended? And are the maps available anywhere?

Am I correct in believing that I could buy one of these mods and with my current subscription(full), I'd be capable of running it for others?

I have the PHB so they could make characters too, but I don't need anything else to run, right? Monsters and everything's already in there, yea?

That is correct. I build the mods out using the SRD info so everything you will need to run the mod is included.

If you own the PDF already or the Season Bundles, when the FG mod gets added, it will show as an update to the download. So you don't have to wait to buy anything, just keep an eye on your notifications that there is an update.

ya, I read that and it's good, but there is no point if I'm trying to run them in FG. if season 1 is out before I start running it or at least first 3-4, sure.

What does it take to get the official FG conversions done for all the past AL modules? I just did season one episode one in an evening and that was just basically cutting and pasting and no par5e or anything.

The problem has always been a legal one, and never a programming/effort one.

IIRC someone has said that all modules are completed in FG format, waiting approval to be made available. So the issue now is likely one of getting the appropriate clearances.

That's all. Just time. If the author wants their modules created they are either doing it themselves, or hiring someone to do the conversion. But they all should want it done. Myrdin, if you meant technically, yes, you can cut/paste into a campaign then export that into a module. Or PAR5E it. Either way it's not a huge deal individually, but it's 60 modules.

To their others that mention legality, I do not think that is an issue here. From what I understand, it's not a Wizards thing, which is why they just didn't get them all done. If you look Chris is releasing modules an author at a time, backing the fact that it's the author that owns the rights and is responsible for the conversion, not Wizards.

Most of the modules are not graphically challenging at all. I just converted over the very first module in season one and added player maps (keys removed) to the DM maps that come with it. I am pretty new to using the content creation and it took an evening. Redoing the formatting that you lose from cut and pasting from the PDF is the hardest thing so far as in boring and there can be lots of text.

I am glad that FSHSchmo is chasing down the authors. I am sure that there are enough DMs here that converted things over that most of them exist on someone's hard drives but with each author needing to approve (and I assume agreeing on compensation or something), it will be hard to get all the old ones done. Glad that Wizards changed it for the newest season that is about to start and I wish that they were able to approve the older ones as well because I bet they would all be done faster than they think.

Raddu

As an FYI there is no agreement that the new season mods will be converted. It's up to the adventure designer to convert them or have them converted. All of the current season's adventure designers are aware of the situation, but it's up to them to make it happen.

I've purchased adventures in DMsguild.com and it *says* that it comes with the FG mod, but I look in the library, and I don't see any FG.mod to download, only the pdf. In particular, my purchase of The Horseman ... I can't get it to work. Any help, or insight as to which link I should be clicking on to get the FG.mod?

Let me know when it is squared away, I'd like to check it out.
Still wish they were done like the 3-1, 3-2 versions with the new art maps vs the dungeoner's blue/white. The maps is the biggest selling feature for me. I don't mind converting or partially converting the ones I have but knowing that some folks put out better VT maps makes me want to buy em instead.

unfortunately, right now it is a pig in a poke ;) since can't preview the maps even in low Rez thumbnails form.

We can help get some of these converted by gently pushing. For example, I converted season 1 episode one over just for practice and reached out to the writer to see if they wanted the file. The writer wrote me back about a week later, asked a few questions and then realized that they had already been contacted by FSHSchmo. That gentle inquiry by me was the pebble that pushed it over to the file being released.

The files themselves are pretty easy to convert for personal use.

Myrdin Potter

The only time a module that is copywriten can be posted is with permission of the owner. In the case of the AL modules, that is the module creator. The official sales location for them is the Dungeon Masters Guild and that is only in the official listing with the permission of the author.

I have seen others recreate and post the maps on their own, but never the entire modules.

Yes, if you purchase it AFTER the mod was added, you got it. But if you purchased it before the mod was added it should of been added to your Library and wasn't.. That was the problem.

Brynnan
September 22nd, 2016, 18:16
The problem with missing FG.mod files on DMsGuild should be fixed now.

When they started adding FG.mod files to the PDF AL Adventures on DMsGuild, there was some issue. If you bought the PDF after the addition you got it, but it was not showing up in the Library or Item Pages for download if you bought it previous to the file being added. And it should of been.

This should be fixed now and the .mod files should be showing up for any of the adventures that have had them added.

If someone could verify for me that this is true, I would appreciate it. If anyone has a chance, can they go to http://www.dmsguild.com/my_library.php and filter by Format:Virtual TableTop and confirm that each item they listed includes a .mod file. Let me know what you find.

Happy day!

There are 17 adventures I purchased before FG mods were being proliferated through the DM Guild site. I now have 17 FG mod adventures showing up in my library. Problem has been fixed (for me at least).

May these dark times never trouble us again!

EDIT: One addendum - I sometimes cannot download the mod using the download link. However, it works when I go through the additional bother of dropboxing and downloading. So...I will call it gray times, but am happy to be beyond the dark times. Dawn points? There is light on the horizon? The eagles are coming?

Bah, I'm guessing we will not be seeing them all converted in any near term if at all.

I've held off buying the first (DDEX1-#) series because meant to use with my group locally and online as a hybrid thing depending on week. Still only 3 of them converted.

Pretty much leaning to start the A series of C&C in early March instead for this group.

Hey everyone,

I am ready to convert AL modules if any help is needed. I did this already a few times with modules I am using privately - but mostly German language to be honest, so nothing to share here I guess (and btw. I would not just share them of course due to copyright and things).

So, if there is help needed, just let me know.

Do many of the AL adventure authors frequent this thread? I've been using FG for quite some time (DM homebrew campaigns) and would love to work on converting a few adventures into 5e modules.

If anyone would be able to share some insight on know how I can get involved with this, please shoot me a PM.

I am currently converting CCC-TAROT01-03 A Martyred Heart for at least my own personal use. I am trying to do things the right way. What is considered good practice for bundling spells and what to do when no battle maps are included but a crude dm map is? I do have a discussion post on the dmsguild page of the product asking if a FG conversion would be something they would be interested to have bundled with their product.

I use Campaign Cartographer 3 for maps, but it is a little pricey and has a big learning curve. But it makes really great maps. The only map included is a pretty much a sketch for DM's use if there is a dry erase board or something handy to quickly draw a map for your players' headspace. it is something that is drawn within a couple mins using the pointer/drawing tools in FG. I wont turn down help though

Myrdin Potter

I have that module and, in general, the maps for that series are rudimentary.

If you can easily use a clone tool in gimp or photoshop to remove any numbers or the key, then you can use it as a play aid. Otherwise the DM will be using theatre of the mind to run the encounters.

Lilly Fireblade
February 12th, 2019, 00:27
What would be best practice for sections that have no maps whatsoever? Should I make maps from scratch and include it with the conversions? Should I make the maps from scratch and offer them as a separate entry on Dmsguild? (as in "Map pack for CCC-TAROT01-03 A Martyred Heart"). Or should I try my best to contact the author and see what they want?

Lilly Fireblade

I have a question for the converting community. I am currently converting CCC-KUMORI-02-04 To Be the Very Best features a different way to handle combat and features npc effects that I am having trouble coding into fantasy grounds, is it better to have the fights that feature said feature be set up as theater of the mind or should I do everything possible to shoehorn in everything?

Raddu
April 29th, 2019, 16:52
Some effects don't work well with automation, I'd just leave them for the DM to adjudicate.

Some mods are made without maps in mind and complicated battles could be hindered or take a long time with a battlemap. Not every encounter is supposed to be used with maps, some are just better as theater of the mind, depends on the mod.

Lilly Fireblade

Okay I didn't want to do it one way and get needlessly criticized for the route I went.
