ok havent seen this before but been cleaning up old books and scanning them into pdfs and came across my old warhammer 40k books. does anyone know which ruleset if any might be able to be used for setting up a homebrewed ruleset? any help would be appreciated. thanks

If you're talking about 40K RPG then there are already Community Rulesets available.

If you're talking about running a 40K Battle (Campaign) then I suppose CoreRPG would probably be your best shot, but FG isn't really set up to do "board" games like 40K and/or WFB.

you could do 5E but you'd have to modify the heck out of it.
There are futuristic weapons in the DMG and you could make the different races of D&D be different Space Marine Chapters or maybe take the hot air I am spewing out and fill an airship up with it and sail it into the Eye of Terror!!

There are essentially two editions of the current 40k RPG, the Black Library's Dark Heresy and the newer, somewhat updated Fantasy Flight 2nd edition of the same book.
