This extension works, but it's strictly worse than the other calc encounter extension (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?33131-5E-Encounter-Calc).

This is what the "New Encounter" dialog used to look like:
14649

This is what it looks like now:
14650

It calculates the encounter difficulty as per page 82 in the DMG which you then compare to your parties' XP threshold (explained on the same page) to estimate how challenging an encounter will be for your party.

Hmm, I just found this (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?26180-Posting-chat-message-only-to-myself&p=233194&viewfull=1#post233194). I'll try incorporating and fixing it on Monday.

Excellent!

I've always wondered why this was not already baked in - and also why "refresh" needs to be pressed to recalculate, instead of the CR always being current.

I kinda like having the refresh button. Sometimes, you want to add circumstances that make it worth more XP without creating a npc entry for a trap or environment. That said, I don't see the point in calculating the CR at all. That's not used to measure difficulty in 5th edition, so why do it?

Indeed, auto calculate is not always required or indeed desirable. If an encounter includes a friendly for example you would not want that included in the XP.

One thing about this extension; it would be more usable if, instead of a number, the output was 'easy, medium ...' etc

I'm just gonna fix hereander's addon. I have everything working except the lock and expanding the window is broken for some reason.

Indeed, total CR is not useful.
The only problem with the manual recalculation is that I've had the situation where I don't realize the displayed figures are out of date. But I'm aware of it now.

Zacchaeus this extension seems to work well, I think you can update the 5E community extensions thread now.

I'm not sure it's worth pointing people to this extension when the other encounter difficulty extension does everything this does and more.

Oh sorry, I found the wrong thread. I meant to post this in the new thread:
