hello there

how do you use effects for poisons?

i found no solution and copied a spell with Saving Throw (Poison spray for example) and edited the DC and set up the damage die

is there a better way?

you can use poison on 3 hits or 3 arrows

how do you add the condition "poisoned" when you fail the Save? Some poisons do only add the condition, some both ^^

You can add poison damage to any weapon by just adding it to the weapon damage stat in the character sheet. See here for details on how to edit and create (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/5E_Character_Sheet#Weapons) weapons.

You can create an effect in the PCs actions tab. All you need is the word 'poisoned' and it will apply the effect. See here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/5E_Character_Sheet#Creating_Effects) for how to create an effect. If you want to force a saving throw then this too is created using effects - see the same section for how to do this.

If it's an NPC that you want to deal poison damage then include the following (edited as needed) in one of their action slots:

On a hit the target must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw. On a failure the target takes 1d8 poison damage and is poisoned for 1 minute, and takes half as much damage on a successful saving throw.

When you put this NPC on the Combat Tracker this line will be interpreted and the attack, saving throw, damage and poisoned condition will all be generated as effects.

I like poison that has an ongoing damage effect. For an NPC, the text would be "the target must succeed on a DC x Constitution saving throw or become poisoned. While poisoned in this way, the target takes y (1dz) poison damage at the start of each of its turns. A target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success." The effect would be "poisoned; DMGO: 1dz poison"

"the target must succeed on a DC x Constitution saving throw or become poisoned. "

This wording won't add the poisoned effect; you somehow need to work it so that the phrase 'is poisoned' is used. So in your example I'd go with.
'the target must succeed on a DC x Constitution saving throw. On a failed saving throw the target is poisoned and takes (1dx) poison damage at the start of each of its turns.

Huh. I copied the language from the Monster Manual (see, e.g., Vrock - same in SRD.) Usually the FG engine understands text from the Monster Manual.

Not in every case. The wording isn't always consistent.
