I had users who, while the site was down also could not connect to my server. Are both functions on the same machine?

The alias server runs on the web server. You can always connect via external IP address if that's not working.

You may want to change that because that means when this site goes down all hell breaks lose with a game in progress as well as people trying to connect

We've been looking to address this for a while, but we haven't managed to complete it yet. Our main server guy has become unavailable and we haven't found a suitable replacement yet.

That said, a server outage shouldn't impact any ongoing game. It will only prevent the alias lookup from working and the license validations.
