Hey, with the current sale, I wanted to see what everyone thought about the usefulness of the DM's guide. Other than access to magic items, what does it help you do at the table?

The tables at your finger tips are the best thing for using during session.

The tables from Chapter 4 for NPC creation get used by me the most often when I find myself doing on the fly roleplay work. I find the random treasure tables useful and you can drag and drop what you roll into the treasure table. Best for individual treasure. I also like the system shock and lingering injury tables. Having them ready is handy. I haven't done it, but you could pre-roll a campaign or adventure out using the design tables from Chapter 2 & 3.

Lot's of good stuff in there. Besides, you gotta catch 'em all!

With the current sale it's a bargain; snap it up immediately. The magic items alone are well worth it and for all the other reasons tadkil has enumerated. In addition there's loads of god advice for making up your own stuff; npcs, spells, dungeons, etc etc.

For me it's the number two book after the PHB.

I had a parsed version and still bought the official version. It's money well spent.

Yeah well worth it. All the tables as mentioned. The treasure generation is quite handy, including magic items.

The FG DMG is well worth it.. If anything for the tables in it.. I use them all the time.. and access to the magic items too . If your going to DM I would say it is a must. I have the hard copy book too but bought the FG DMG first.

You may not have seen this addition, but you can toggle the treasure horde output to output to a parcel now instead of to chat. This way, it will automatically generate a treasure parcel that you can immediately drop into the Party Sheet to share with the players. It works with the individual treasure charts too, such as if you want to roll for 1 1000 gp Gem.

Hell, I didn't even see that.

That's bloody great.

Someone hasn't been reading their patch notes (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/filelibrary/patchnotes.html) :)

One of my often used features of the DM guide is the reference manual section. It's very quick to search in if I get competing arguments from the players :D

Guilty as charged. And damn that is cool!
