Marvel Heroic Roleplaying and various hacks of Cortex Plus were my favorite system for some time. Is there a way to run games using this system in Fantasy Grounds, particularly the dice pool?

How does the dice pool work?

The dice pool is fairly involved for MHR. You get different size dice from many different sources, depending on the situation and how you roleplay the scene. In some circumstances you can also "trade-in" s die to get two dice of a lower size; for example spend a d10 to get two d8's.

I know that someone did a MHR ruleset at one point, but it was never released to the public because they couldn't get the owner to sign-off on the release.

Sorry, I lost track of this thread. Cortex Plus uses dice pools. So in Heroic for instance you have a few abilities used to make a dice pool.

Affiliation - either Solo, Buddy or Team ranging from d6 to d10 - you choose one based on if you are solo, working with a partner or on a team.

Distinctions - these work kind of like aspects. You can pick one and add it to your pool at d8 or at d4 if it's detrimental.

Power Sets - these have powers and SFX which can augment dice. Usually in the d8-d10 range sometimes. You can pick one for your pool.

Specialties - these are kind of like skills - d8 for Expert and d10 for Mastery. If you don't have a relevant specialty you can roll a d6.

Assets - these include other assets or resources. Usually adds a single die.

The way an action works is you roll your pool, then you pick two dice to add together for a total to compare what you are rolling against. You also pick a die for the effect. I guess the thing is the dice need to persist for a while after they are rolled so you can add your total and pick your dice. I guess you could do it anyways. I'm actually thinking that something like Tabletop Simulator that has dice that use physics and stay on the table where you roll them might be better suited.

I'm mostly asking because I am writing a game using this system, and it would be nice to be able to playtest using FG. But I own several VTTs, if FG isn't suited then I can try another. I realize this system is a bit challenging to simulate.

Like I said, it was done in FG by Malachi666 and Kairos. You can see some discussion and screen shots here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?16648-Marvel-Heroic-Roleplaying) and here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?16242-Marvel-Heroic-Roleplaying) but he hasn't released it to the public due to not being able to get permission from Margret Weis.

Oh, and to do it right you will also need to emulate the Doom Pool.

You dont need anyones permission to release a ruleset. Mechanics cannot be copyrighted. Including content is another story...

I appreciate the link. Unfortunately, since making a rule set of this complexity is beyond my ability it seems like my option is to use a different VTT. Thanks for the information.

I understand that, but the ones who made the ruleset were unwilling to release it without permission anyway.
