View Full Version : Question about how FG works

Ok, a little exposition behind my question before I ask it: I've heard about Fantasy Grounds from a friend that DMs with it. My friends and I have just played via pencil and paper, but life has taken us to a point where we really can't do that anymore, making FG seem like a great means to keep our games going. In addition, it seems to present an opportunity for me to bring in a few other friends to play that couldn't otherwise join. I understand there is the ultimate license DLC, but others in my group like to DM too, so it does not seem like a feasible option for our situation.

Now for the question, is it possible for a single copy of FG to be logged in through two computers?

Suppose I buy the four-pack on steam and sent a copy to one of my single friends and the other two copies to four married couples that play by two-computer setups each. Would they be forced to cram onto one computer to join in sessions (since I understand you can play more than one character at a time) or would they be able to join via their two-computer setup?

This seemed to be the best place to ask such a question and I am currently lacking the time to look thoroughly for a more appropriate location to pose it, so I apologize in advance if it is misplaced.

Welcome Sabourok. It's one licence per computer. So if there are a couple playing in the same house they will need two licenses to use on two computers, or cram around the same computer to use one licence.

If you not buying lots of D&D 5e DLC then I would suggest a $10/month Ultimate subscription for the GM. Then when you swap GMs you can cancel the sub and the new GM can start one up. When its your turn to be GM again your DLC will still be there. Systems like Savage Worlds, Pathfinder and Castles & Crusades are much lower cost. D&D comes with the excellent SRD. If you are GMing and want to run the Lost Mines of Phandelver or another adventure then you would buy that. Playing D&D I think the GM will fairly quickly see the additional value the PHB in particular would provide. However when you swap GMs the new GM might also want to buy the PHB.
