Hey Folks! Just trying to begin some discussion around the Gumshoe game system. My community download doesn't work. Lot's of error messages. I will post them in a bit.

Love it! I've used CoreRpg to run Night's Black Agents before. The Trail of Cthulhu works pretty well. I used ToC with Valarian's NBA extension last weekend to run The Harker Intrusion. I just wish it was supported with reference material.

The Dracula Dossier is on my list of campaigns to run before I die.

Not sure how much is in the GUMSHOE SRD.

alp was working on a library, not sure how much use it is. I think this is the latest release: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?19976-GUMSHOE-Ruleset&p=176719&viewfull=1#post176719

It hasn't been updated in years last I checked and sferguson was working on an official ToC library + updated ruleset. Haven't heard anything about that either.

I haven't tried either ToC or Night's Black Agents with FG yet, though I've run both tabletop quite a few times.

Any updates on any gunshoe-related rulesets? Been working on a couple of modules for NBA and ToC, would love to try running them on FG.

Looks we'll just adapt using core for now. For those who have run with core... what are some mechanics tips?

Use the MoreCore extension (im thinking of turning this into a ruleset for a few reasons.

Valarian made a NBA ruleset. It's in the wiki (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Ruleset:_Night%27s_Black_Agents). He also made an extension for ToC that turns the character sheet abilities to NBA. Before that was available I just modified it myself (right click, add ability). Also, this 5 mins video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYD0RxtlNGs) is worth a look as it will show you how to use the ToC ruleset.

Great discussion folks! I'm into Esoterrorists myself and will look into all that you all have posted. I'm sure that will spur even more productive discussion. Thanks!

Handy stuff. Been working up a Delta Green game using NBA rules.

I will start a NBA game next week. I´m using the ToC ruleset plus the NBA extension. I´ve also created a custom NBA theme (in spanish, heavily modified version of my Chronicles of Darkness theme). We will start the campaign with The Dubai Reckoning :)

damned, can you explain more here? The ruleset you used for your recent Trail of Cthulu game, The Kidnapping, seemed to be a different ruleset (or at least skin) from the ToC ruleset I just downloaded from the wiki here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Ruleset:_Trail_of_Cthulhu) and played around with. I'm a bit confused as to which to use. (Seems that there are multiple redundant options in differing levels of completeness.)

Hawk and Sparrow I'm just learning about Esoterrorists through the influence of forum posts just like this and would love to jump into a game. (Note that Valarian has an Esoterrorist extension (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B75Lr5C1Hpx3X1o3Q1RYM2tUVEU) for the Trail of Cthulu ruleset that I successfully loaded. His entire Google Drive of rulesets and extensions is here (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B75Lr5C1Hpx3Z2ZDTWZNek5sMUE).)

Hector, Thanks for the thoughtful note. I would love to join you in that play by post effort. Is there still a chance for me to join? As far as running something on FG, I am already running a 5e Curse of Strahd campaign... and playing in a local monthly Pub campaign.... setting / story TBD. So, I'm a but tapped on the time / gaming continuum.

Speaking of Robin Laws... do you listen to the Ken and Robin podcast? It is most excellent.

I'm surprised Hector hasn't jumped on Fear Itself (https://www.pelgranepress.com/gumshoe/fearitself/index.html) yet. Knowing him and his buddy Raz, it sounds right up their alley.

I was a bit quick on my initial response that you quoted above. For Trail of Cthulhu I do use the Trail of Cthulhu ruleset by Scott Case: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20888-Trail-of-Cthulhu-ruleset
I do believe that going with Valarians extension will be your best bet here.
The ToC ruleset doesnt really cover any combat stuff (AFAIK) but a long rumoured commercial release of this ruleset will).
The game I ran at FG Con I played pretty fast and loose with both the game system and the FG interface. It was mostly TotM.
I also changed the wallpaper for that session but that was about all I changed.

Hey guys. My group has been messing around a bit playing GumShoe and I noticed that with this ruleset (the one on the wiki), when I (the host tries) to add an effect, I see a

Ruleset Error: window Control(label) anchoring to an undefined control (leftanochor) in windowclass (ct_effect)

My players don't get the error. I'm certainly not a programmer but does anyone know if this is a complicated fix?

damned
March 5th, 2018, 03:47
It is largely a cosmetic error.
It will need someone to fix.
Which exact ruleset are you using?
Almost guaranteed that it only supports label/text effects and not mechnical ones.

Thanks for the insight. Mutant City Blues. I basically just deleted the entire ct_effect windowclass and gave it a run. Everything works now without the errors! Sure, the effects don't mechanically apply to anything but they didn't anyway (like you said). They're just visual reminders that someone has a +1 hit threshold, etc. Thanks for the tip!
