View Full Version : Mutant Year Zero Dice Mechanic

Hi guys,

I have thrown together an extension to handle the whacky Mutant Year Zero dice.
I have created new custom dice for each of the 3 coloured d6s so that you can drag them onto a CoreRPG dice field to build a pool and roll them. The extension also evaluates the results.

Please post any problems or suggestions here...

Updated 24/08/2019 - Forcibly removes d2 and d3 custom dice to avoid issues with the custom dice being moved around the radial menu.

Next step is to create a character sheet:
13007
And drag in the dice:
13008
You can then create pools for tests like shooting the Scrap Gun by creating a new attribute in the _Pools area and dragging in the skill, attribute and gear dice from the rest of the sheet:
13009
Then you can roll the pool by double clicking:

This is pretty incredible and pretty much a tutorial for how to set up any custom dice. Thanks!

My only complaint is that I must spread around some reputation before giving it to ianmward.

Next step is to create a character sheet:
Great work Ian.

Can you provide an export of a character sheet XML? This will mean GMs can use this as a template for new PCs.

Info on CoreRPG template character sheets here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?23138-Share-Game-System-Character-Sheets

The character sheet is pretty basic at the moment, probably needs a bit more love, but yeah, I'll see what I can do.

After seeing another of Trenloe's fantastic posts, I have changed the names of the custom dice so that you can create dice pools on the chat line using /die
e.g.
/die 3d61+2d62+3d63 Shoot gun

the Yellow die has changed from d6y to d61
the Green die has changed from d6g to d62
the Black die has changed from d6b to d63

13021

Enjoy...

I just spotted a bug! Rereading the rules I now see that the green skill dice should not have a special symbol on the 1. I'll fix it and post an update.

Sorry for the slip...

Ive added a couple of graphical updates to the extension. Hopefully they suit the theme of your game!

Are you running a game online? Would it be possible to join? Ever since I got my hands on the book and got a couple of my friends to play, ive been hooked. Though for once I would like to play as a character and not the gm. Would it be possible to join if you are running a session?

ianmward

This is a good one guys...

v0.0.5
Added Damned's graphics
Added '/push' chat command to Push rolls
Added d66 custom dice
Added d666 custom dice

13147

When used, the /push command will re-roll and non-special dice and display the whole pool again.
You can only push once for a given test, so further attempts are ignored.

The d66 and d666 custom dice can be dragged from the radial menu or rolled using the /die command and roll 2 or 3 d6 and treat them as 10s and units (11-66) or 100s, 10s and units (111-666).

I recommend each player type /push into the chat window and drag it to a spare hotkey slot for easy access.

Sorry, I am not running a game. I'm just helping out because I thought it looked interesting.
If I run one, I'll post.

Good luck in finding one.

Is this compatible with MoreCore?

not as written, but if you understand XML then you can unpack the files, go into the definition.xml and under the existing <ruleset> line and this <ruleset>MoreCore</ruleset>

BOOT KNIFE
August 19th, 2017, 16:16
Right. I know about adding ruleset names in the xml file but I was more thinking of the dice mechanics. I don't know exactly what MoreCore does differently than CoreRPG but there has to be a fundamental difference in the rulesets and how they're programmed. Thanks Wookie420.

Great addition! Thanks for sharing!

You might want tolook at my generic dice pool extension too, it complements well.

As mentioned by Ian - they're custom dice, accessible via the radial menu. Right-click on the d6 on the desktop, and select the "Custom Dice" (top-left) radial menu. This is the standard FG approach for custom dice (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Dice).

I know this might be a bit of a thread necro, but I've been having problems getting the skill dice to work correctly. When I click it, instead of the expected behavior it just goes back to the d6 regular menu.

right click?

Miko_Chan

I did, still goes back to the original d6 menu.
I have literally tried everything in the radial menu and can't get it to work and don't know why. The Base Die and Gear Die work JUST FINE. But the skill die is infuriating me o.o

even the d66 and d666 work, but not the skill die.

I think it might be to do with the positioning of the custom dice in the radial menu. The skill die may be being positioned in the place reserved for the “back” option in the radial menu.

I haven’t tried using this for years, so I am not sure, but that is what it sounds like to me.

The resolution would to add a dummy die before the skill die or something similar, to move it past the “back” position.

any idea how I would do that? I'm very in the dark here. (sorry, I'm the kind of person who is still learning fantasy grounds and can't program a DVD player's clock to save my life.)

I know you gotta turn an ext into a zip, and that's how you get to the inner files, and then you turn those files in txt, but I'm afraid to do anything in there.

There are 2 additional custom dice icons, at 12o’clock and 1 o’clock. These are pushing the myz dice around and putting the skill die where the back arrow should be.

Do you have any other extensions loaded that could be adding the other icons?

I think the issue is CoreRPG 3.3.8 has added d2 and d3 to the d6 custom dice menu.
The extension will need to be updated.

I have no idea how to even look where to do that. I know about turning an extension into a zip and then opening each thing with a notepad++ but I have no idea where I'm looking or what I'm looking for.

Hi, I need to change the push mechanic for the talent "true grit" in forbidden lands: I need to create a new push command for dwarf without the limit to 1 single push. Please, what file should I have to modify?
I suppose managing_action_dice.lua, but I'm not able to understand well the script, because I'm not very good in programming (I'm new to FG), please, can you tell me where is the counter which stops the push button?
Sorry for the bother
thanks in advance

EDIT: solved, thank you anyway

Hello.
I'm trying out this extension, but I am not getting the correct results.
I can find the dice in the radial menu, I can roll them, but there are no results showing up.

First of all. Is this compatible with Unity?

Second, I went into the code and saw that it's missing a file called "graphics/fonts/diemod.fgf".
Might this be the issue?

Thanks in advance.

I'm 85% confident that fgf fonts are not supported in FGU. So I suspect that means this extension will have problems or just won't work in FGU until the fonts definitions are replaced.
