after watching the (put you to sleep demo by a user)
I have loaded a copy to run the game and a copy as player 1.
The video says to push the map/item to the players.
Ive tried dropping it in the chat bar. on the player icon .
So you do not have to hold my hand.
any links that best explain how to do this stuff is welcome.
In regards to the PORT, the router is shared at the dorm, is this going to prevent me from joining a game?
will this prevent me from hosting a game?

Right click on the map, select Sharing, then Share Sheet. You can also select Sharing, then Preload Image, if you want to preload the image into the player's cache (earlier in an adventure) so that it pops up immediately when you do the "Share Sheet". I usually do the preload before the session begins with all of the images that I expect to use in that session (the clients will pull it down as soon as they connect), it speeds up the game while playing.
Look into using a VPN if you can't change your router settings.

Firstly welcome to the community.
Just to be sure what kind of licence do you have? If it's only a demo license I'm not sure you'll be able to do much with sharing links etc
If it's a full or ultimate license then make sure that you join the first instance that you opened up by connecting via local host.
To share something from the DM to players there is a number of ways and you have detailed two of them, either drag the image or story entry into the chat box which will create a link that the player can click on; or drag the link and drop it onto the player portrait in the top left hand corner of the screen. The final method is to right click over the item to be shared and select 'share' from the radial menu.
As regards your second question it will depend on how much control you have over the router. In order to connect to a game you won't need to do anything in particular but if you want to host a game then you'll need to have port 1802 open on the router. If you don't have control then it may be that you'll need to get the administrator to do it for you if that is possible.

Those boring videos help with much of this stuff. That's what they're for.

If you are playing at the dorm and you have no access to the firewall (likely) your players who are also on the same router can connect via your Internal/LAN IP address.
For External players I suggest you try Hamachi: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20309-GM-Connection-Issues-Tried-Everything-Try-Hamachi
