So I got tired of starting a whole new thread every time I have a question so I am just going to keep adding on to this one.

So here's the question on my mind. I am making story entries from scratch and want to make a "Random Encounter" table that has the die on it where you click and it rolls it for you and shows the result. However I am beginning to think that this is not possible without going into the code and doing it there. Anyone have any tips on how to pull this off?

EDIT: figured out how to get all the bonuses in one effect, but is there a way to just show the name of the Effect in the CT? i.e. show Favored Terrain Cold, instead of init:2, skill:2 knowledge geography, perception, stealth, survival?

Without coding I believe you have to link to teh table and from there you can roll...

Just use a modifier prior to rolling at those times...

What ruleset are you talking about?

For any ruleset you create tables by clicking on the menu in the top right hand side. You can drag links into the table for random encounters and they'll be output into chat. You assign the dice by dragging it into the little dice box in the top left. Once your table is done you can drag it into a story to link it to that story.

Is this anywhere close to answering your question or have I answered a different question.

In 5e at least there's not a way to create an effect to handle the Ranger's Favoured Terrain ability. See here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?27349-Effects-the-Complete-Ranger-Package&p=244594#post244594) for more on creating effects for the 5e ranger abilities.

ok the table thing kinda makes sense. I'll check that out when I'm not at work. I was trying to just make it straight in the story entry and getting frustrated. The ranger is for pathfinder. I figured out how to get all the modifiers into the effect. Is there some way that you can change the name the effect displays in the CT? So it would say Favored Terrain not all the bonuses?

No you can't make a table in a story.

And no you can't just have a title for an effect which will then do all the stuff you want. It will always show the bonuses.

Create a story entry.
Add a line called
My Devilishly Clever Table - while teh cursor is still on that line press [ctrl]+[5] and an icon will appear to the left - usually a square but may be a circle.
Open up your table and drag the table link - not the dice link - on to that new square/circle and it will be come a link to the table.

Create an Effect called - Favoured Terrain: Mountains with duration 0 Days and apply it....

Is there a way, as a GM to set up the masterwork property of a weapon before it gets on the characters inventory sheet that will not also add the +1 to dmg?

Which system are you referring to here? If you're talking about 3.5E/PF then the masterwork property adds +1 to hit when it is dragged to the PC charsheet, not to damage.

was sitting here tonight and wondering, in pathfinder, do PC's get xp from trap encounters even if they trigger them?

Yes. It doesn't matter how they got past it, so long as they encountered it.

Is there a way to have links on a map for different modules, but have the links disappear when the module is closed in the library? Or if that is not possible is there a way to change the color of the link so that you could color code them besides the red not shared and green shared?

There is no way to color code the links or remove links for closed data at this point.

You can add to the wish list in my sig. We will be looking at the image display control quite a bit in the next major version.

Say I wanted to have two "players" in my house, i.e. my kids. Would they be able to use the "localhost" connection or would I have to upgrade to an ultimate account so that they could use free ones?

Localhost is only the "connection address" which means "this computer".

Your kids would need to use the Internal IP Address (as reported by the host PC's FG Launcher Screen) - this is irregardless of what type of license they were using.

As far as licensing is concerned: they would need either Full licenses or you would need an Ultimate License

In the combat tracker menu (top left of the CT) - Rest is the "eye" icon in the top left of the radial menu. See "Menu" here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Combat_Tracker

The GM can also do an individual PC by right-clicking in the character sheet and selecting the same rest option. https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/3.5E_Character_Sheet#Resting

So I formatted an effect for my PFRPG ranger for his favored terrain bonus as follows
INIT:2; SKILL:2 knowledge geography, perception, stealth, survival
how would I format a remove effect for when he is no longer in said terrain?

For the pathfinder ruleset, what would be the format for a poison effect that would automatically roll a fort save? or is that even possible?

I recently paid for the upgrade to ultimate. is there some indication of this on the load screen? I only ask because I still have the "upgrade to ultimate" button and my son who has a free account is unable to connect to my campaign.

So I'm making a story entry and want to put a table in that has one column for say monsters encountered and another column for the xp award. But when I put the paragraph in table format using the radial menu I can only get one column. Is there a way short of coding to get that second one to show up?

Played in a 5e AL game last night and had some issues with importing my character. (it wasn't in the window when I clicked the blue import button.) Do I need to store my character xml's somewhere specific to be able to upload them or...??? This only seems to be an issue when I am logged into a game as a player, when I am a GM I can navigate through my directory and find the file I need.

When you join a game you can only select characters that the GM has available. If you want to use a character you have created you'll need to send it to him in advance so that he can store it ready for you to import into his game. I think.

Where did you create the character? If you used "Manage Characters" then the PC will be stored locally on the computer where you created it (in the <FG App Data>\characters directory) and will be available to select when you click the blue arrow in the Character Selection window after joining a GMs game (assuming the FG ruleset used to create the PC match that used by the GM).

Manage Characters is a good piece of functionality that avoids the need to email PCs to GMs. Although, some GMs may want you to do this anyway, as it gives them the chance to review the PC prior to a gaming session.

Is there a way to make a "trap NPC" for 5e? Its a simple falling rock trap, the PC's have to make a dex save vs DC 10 to take half dmg, but I am having a hard time setting this up. Any tips?

So my 5e rogue just hit lvl 5 and got Uncanny Dodge which states, "If an attacker that I see hits me I can use my reaction to take half damage" is there a way to set up an effect so that this doesnt have to be done manually and slow down the game? I know its only if I use my reaction so if I used my reaction for anything else I would remove it for that round.

No way to automate this. Just click the 'Half' button in the modifiers dialogue before damage is rolled. Shouldn't slow things down that much.

So for the past week or so when i try to play a 5e game with some friends that we have been playing for a while with no issues now when I log into the game i get a constant stream of errors in the error window making it almost impossible to play because it works its way through all of the GM's tokens, and he has a lot of them.

Did you restart Fantasy Grounds and reset the cache, as suggested in the error message? I've had a player experiencing something similar recently when joining my 3.5E game, too...

Also tell your GM not to place large numbers of tokens in the shared folder since that will inevitably slow things down quite a bit.

So if I have a module that I want to add some maps to (for encounters and such) what would be the steps I would have to take to be able to export it all into an "improved" module that would have all the original stuff as well as the added maps?

I think there is a way to merge modules using the Merge ID function but I've never tried it and really don't know how it works.

As you are no doubt aware you can only export a module from a campaign and so only the stuff in that campaign will get exported - in other words you can't export the module you have open.
If you created the module from a campaign then you can go back to that campaign and add in the new stuff and re-export.
If it is an official module then the content is locked and you can't add stuff to it. All you can do is export your additions and have that module open at the same time and pull stuff from it as needed.

not sure where to put this so ill set it right here, do the adventures and stuff in the store come with a pdf also? I.E. if i buy the items that I am missing for the 5e bundle set do i get the fantasy grounds file as well as a pdf or is it just the fantasy ground mod?

It's just the Fantasy Grounds module. As far as I'm aware, PDFs of 5E material are not sold anywhere.

Was 3.2 a major version? What changed on the image control? There were only a couple of things at low level that I could find in version description.

Sound like SW may have decided to defer until Unity?

the lvl 1 pregens for the kineticist, medium, occultist, psychic, and spiritualist. I have been able to find the lvl 4 versions but not the lvl 1

I still haven't a clue what you are talking about. What module is this? What ruleset? Where are you finding these occult characters? You are assuming too much knowledge.

I am currently involved in a 5e game as a player. Is there a way that map pins can be added by the players to make notes of like what buildings are what in town? The only thing we were able to do was have the GM share his pin but that has all the "GM" specific info on it.

playing a rogue in a 5e game today and had the following issue. When i apply the sneak attack effect to my character it shows as "off" in the combat tracker and i have to manually turn it back on before i can roll damage. It used to be just apply the effect and roll the damage, has something changed in the last couple weeks?

There have been some updates, but I haven't heard of this issue. Normally these types of things are due to an extension that the GM has loaded.Find out what extensions they are using and see if it can be reproduced with those extensions disabled.

Add “crit range 19” to the weapon properties. It only works for PCs.

So I am playing 5e AL and I want to use a "log" entry to keep track of some things like item unlocks and costs in the note section on the bottom. Is it possible to format the table so that say the first column has the treasure table letter, the second has the cost in TP, and the third is formatted in a way that each item is on its own line in the cell? maybe also adjust the column width

No, the notes just takes text. You can create new lines by pressing return. Isn't the log sheet in a character sheet for AL play?

Thanks Zac, yeah it is used for AL play but i have found that it is a handy place to keep a list of notes. Just name the title whatever and ignore the xp/gp part and just use the bottom for the notes.
