Hi, so I just purchased the AAW Map Pack Vol 3, along with a bunch of other stuff. Unfortunately when I open that module it causes fantasygrounds 2 client to die/stop working/crash.

is this with players joined? are you sharing the whole module by any chance? does it do this in a blank campaign?

No players joined, nothing else going on, as this is the first thing I did upon opening fantasy grounds after purchasing this module. No other modules are open other than the 4 that I've always had open, they are rule books. This module is not shared at all. I open this map module and instant doh!

I open F.G again then and it pops up a dialogue stating that it has found a backup of the campaign and says about renaming it and reloading. It's that sort of blunt and unexpected crash.

*Edited because:-
I just created a new, empty campaign of 3.5e, and it works. So I created a blank campaign using Rolemaster classic, which is the rule set that we will be using. Without any other modules open I opened this map module and nothing crashes.

It seems that our current campaign is the stumbling block. Though we have only created characters within it, and the only modules that have been used until now were the rule set for Rolemaster Classic.

The only thing of note now in the new, blank campaign of Rolemaster is that this map module in the library creates more basic errors of 'Runtime Error: desktop: Unable to create window with invalid class (referenceindexsorted : lists.encounter@AAW Games Map Pack Vol 3)' when the two links or whatever they are are clicked in an attempt to open them, with the second error message varying slightly of course.

So going back into the pre-existing campaign, closing all open modules, then opening this map module, and it works, as much as it just did without killing FG.

In the pre-existing campaign (such as it is) if I close all modules, then open them again along with the new map module, it works until I press the 'maps and images' icon, with those two errors thrown up in a window if I just try to access them from the library as links 'Runtime Error: desktop: Unable to create window with invalid class (referenceindexsorted : lists.encounter@AAW Games Map Pack Vol 3)'.

It's when I click the 'Maps and images' icon in the present campaign on FG, with this map module loaded that it dies.

So what I did next was to export each character, then go into the data folder, from the launcher screen from the client, and I tried to delete all of the test campaigns, and also the campaign folder that was dying. The curious thing that happened then was that all the campaigns ended up getting deleted as expected, except for the one that was causing problems. It's got a folder in there which has user settings, and of course that's what the folder is called - user settings. I deleted that after leaving FG totally.

The thing I did previously, which I connect with that folder is alter the game rule options within the rules - options setting. So I wonder if that's the thing causing the problem somehow.

So here I go, I set up a new campaign for Rolemaster classic and alter the options.

Yep. It's definitely seems to be something to do with the options and then the module is loaded and the map button is pressed, though for some reason the options remained the same as I'd set them up to be in the 'established' campaign.

So I open FG, then I create a completely blank, new campaign for Rolemaster Classic. Next I only open the map module and do nothing else. I click the 'maps and images' button, and it died.

So, I started a new blank campaign in RMC again. I didn't open that map module, but just clicked the maps and images icon, and FG didn't die.

I activated the FG Battle Maps, then I clicked the 'Maps and images' icon, and FG didn't die it showed them there without a problem. It's only then that without doing anything else I opened this new maps module, then when FG goes to try and use it that FG dies in the RMC campaign.

Just in case it was the Rolemaster rule set that had somehow become a campaign killer, I deleted the rule set from the data folders and re-downloaded. New campaign, and no problem. Test click the icon with nothing loaded. Check. Load the module it's having difficulties with and ... oh dear.

nice trooubleshooting :)
without having the map pack i cant really help you in the troubleshooting...
the rmc ruleset is not CoreRPG based... i wonder if there is something that doesnt work so well on older rulesets?

Thanks for the report and the troubleshooting. My guess is that the module is using a feature that is only available in CoreRPG-based rulesets. However, it still shouldn't crash.

I will take a look at the crash condition, and report the module issue so it can be fixed as well.

Thanks,

^_^ thankyou. I'm glad if I've helped.

There is one other small problem I've found in that a product hasn't downladed. It's DGA031 and it's not mentioned in the list of products I've bought in the FG client, but I bought it and it's listed in my store history.

Have a look in the store - it may be an older product that you download from within the Store...
