What Is The LPak Community Project/Program?
The LanguagePak Community Project/Program (or LPak for short) is a community-based project/program whose aim is to provide language translations for the various Rulesets and Extensions used with the Virtual Tabletop Software: Fantasy Grounds. The Project/Program consists of three Phases:

Phase 1: To translate the string resources contained in the CoreRPG and Child-Rulesets and Extensions.
Phase 2: To translate the language-specific graphic resources of the Rulesets and Extensions.
Phase 3: To translate the embedded language items within each Ruleset and Extension.

We are currently in Phase 2, with experienced Project Contributors who have translated their chosen Ruleset/Extension to the Phase 2 Standard welcome to begin Phase 3 of their chosen Ruleset/Extension.

Our Goal
Our goal is to produce a number of LanguagePak Extensions all having the same consistent structure for as many different Languages and as many different Rulesets and Extensions as we can.

Our Code Of Practice
We all subscribe to and follow the Project's/Program's Code Of Practice:

We participate as a Community, under the leadership of our Project/Program Manager, to produce the best outcome for the Project/Program, for Fantasy Grounds and for the users of our Project's/Program's Products.
We discuss issues as a Community, and we abide by the decisions of the Community, guided by our Project/Program Manager.
We respect each other and are tolerant of each other at all times.
We follow the Project/Program Standards at all times, striving for Consistency and Accuracy within our Translations and our Project's/Program's Products.
We keep the Project/Program and the Project/Program Manager fully informed of what we are doing at all times so as to make things as easy as possible for all concerned.
We leave our egos “at the door”, giving credit where it is due and only accepting credit where we've earned it.
We respect copyright and the work of others, never “adding to” nor “removing from” the original in our Translations.

Where Are The Language Paks?
Because of the number of LPaks the Project/Program has/will produce and because of the restrictions of the Forum Software, the individual LPaks are scattered across the Posts of this Thread. However, Post #2 (http://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?27202-LanguagePak-(LPak)-Community-Project-Program&p=242971&viewfull=1#post242971) of this Thread acts as an Index to where individual LPaks are located.

How Do I Get Involved?
We're glad you asked! We always need and welcome new Project/Program participants and contributors. The first thing to do is download the LPak Framework Documentation from Post #2 (http://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?27202-LanguagePak-(LPak)-Community-Project-Program&p=242971&viewfull=1#post242971) of this Thread and read about the Project/Program, the Standards and how to go about producing an LPak and participating as a Contributor.

My RPG Ruleset, Extension Or Language Isn't Listed
If you have a CoreRPG Child-Ruleset or an Extension that works with such a Ruleset that isn't listed on Post #2, or if you speak a Language that isn't listed on Post #2, then either post a message in this Thread or, better yet, Private Mail (PM) the Project/Program Manager and we'll see about getting it added to the Project/Program.

This page contains two tables and a link to a third, each listing the LPak Framework Documentation, Rulesets or Extensions the Project/Program is covering cross-referenced with the Languages the Project/Program is translating for. This page contains the LPak Framework Documentation and Rulesets Tables, while Post #63 (http://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?27202-LanguagePak-(LPak)-Community-Project-Program&p=248962&viewfull=1#post248962) contains the Extensions Table.

Each entry in the tables acts as both a Status Notification for the relevant LPak and an Index to a Post within this Thread where that particular LPak (or details about its progress) can be found.

Each entry will have one of these Statuses:

Current: The LPak is finished and can be found on the linked Post.
Not Current: The LPak is finished but the Ruleset or Extension has been updated since the LPak was produced. A Contributor is required to update the LPak.
Updating: The Not Current LPak is being updated by one or more Contributors.
Started: One or more Contributors are currently performing the Translations.
Not Started: The LPak requires a Contributor to do the Translations.

Its glad to see this project going on!

i think i know some informations which can help you:

a lots of DND rules has been translated to chinese. include 3E/3R, 4E,5E and pathfinder RPG's core rule and lots of rulesets,and well organized.

you can find all of them in this website:
http://www.goddessfantasy.net/bbs/index.php
you can also find some really good translator here!

but there's still some problem:because there's no chinese official translation , most of them is translated by volunteers, it's a Non-profit hobby.

CoC in french language : https://www.dropbox.com/s/d9t1y5q8dlqrluj/CoC.zip?dl=0

PM Edit: The above link only includes the CoC String file - it is not the complete LPak.

The LPak attached below is NOT complete: it has not gone through the LPak Project/Program Process, so has been designated v0.1 and given a Status of "Not Current", but it is usable. :)

If someone would like to complete the LPak Project/Program Process then this would be appreciated.

Thanks to kael79 for the CoC String file - much appreciated.

Jean-Yves G.

Jean-Yves, you do realize (don't you) that you don't have to include the entire CoC7e code in a translation - you can simply include the translation strings in a separate, smaller, co-extension (as the Project Documentation explains). It appears that you're doing a lot of unnecessary work for the same result.

Cheers

Hello,

LPak_French_5E in WIP, but due to end-of-year holidays, will not been delivered before January

Question : I download the LPak Framework but it contains only the strings files. Where can I find the XML files ?

I may need some help to confirm some of my translation. If anybody is interested, please, let me know.

I think that's one of the hard-coded translations that were mention for Phase 3 - we'll have to go looking in the code for them

Hello,

i will create the LPak extension for CoreRPG, 3.5E/PFRPG, 4E, 5E and Numenera for the German language.

There is already an extension for PFRPG created by Lule a member from the german RPG forum "www.drachenzwinge.de", I have the rights to use his translated texts for which the copyrights are by www.drachenzwinge.de (see announcement of the extensions).

Hi drvolk,

Try the XML codes for the umlats - I don't know if it'll work with the current FG engine (not all of them do, but this should be changed when we move to the Unity platform) but try it and see. :)

Do another "announcement" tag for the extra copyright - I'll check it out once you've got things done and we'll change it if necessary.

And welcome aboard

Cheers

The codes would prolly still work under Unity but you would in future (hopefully) be able to use the full character set and not have to do this...

Yeah, these extensions are so usefull to organize a big campaign, they should be a fixed part of the CoreRPG ruleset itself in my opinion, but because they are not, they are MUST HAVE extensions ;)

Its off topic for this thread, but I've actually included them into a CoreRPG child-Ruleset I've called DOCore, and all of the RPGs I'm writing Rulesets for are built on DOCore.

Hello,

I have just finished my German translation of the CallOfCthulhu (CoC) Ruleset. The strings are fully translated now and ready to use.

One thing I'm still not sure of: The CoC Ruleset uses parts of CoreRPG, therefore these parts aren't translated in the Extension I created. Is there a possibility to enable the already existing translation of the CoreRPG ruleset for the CoC ruleset (thanks to drvolk and Lule) or will I have to include the whole CoreRPG translation too? (I tried it and it worked, but if there is a different solution I would use that obviously.)

For now I have only included the CoC Translation without the CoreRPG parts, if I should include them, I will await the confirmation from drvolk first before releasing it.

Thanks for this great project, It made it very easy for me to contribute to make FG even better still.

Thanks Strainer, well done,

No, what you've done is correct: the CoreRPG LPak is designed to be loaded with the CoC LPak (it cuts down on duplication of effort and also leads to less chance of conflicting mistakes).

I'm working on a way to automatically load parent-Ruleset LPaks when required - in the same way that the parent-Ruleset is loaded automatically - for the moment, however, simply load both LPaks.

Cheers

And here some issues i noticed while doing the translation:

- Political Entities , Checkbox text place is a little bit to short for translated text

- Buildings: Type Dropbox , String Resources missing ?

- Worlds: Hydrosphere: "Sopping" , found no german word for that, what does it mean ?

- Star System: System Has a Crystal Shell/Hyperlimit ... no idea what this means ...
- Star System: Start Date, Current Date "set date" box to short for german text "Setze Datum"

- Plan of Existense: Morphability ... no clue what that means and how to translate ...

- Organisations: Locations: translated textresource "sOrganisationLocationLinkListEmptyStr" not shown but the original

Nice catch :)

I've just updated the CoreRPG German LPak so that it works with all standard CoreRPG Child-Rulesets.

Unfortunately, I still cannot select the CoreRPG Translation for CallOfCthulhu campaigns. I looked into it and don't understand why, as everything was defined in the extension.

Update: Suddenly works, even though I didn't change anything. But it works fine now. :confused:

Probably a restart of FG (from scratch) - I've gotten caught with that a few times myself :)

I've re-sized the controls for the next release of the Extensions.

Buildings: Type Dropbox , String Resources missing ?

Yeap, these are in a separate file (see attached) - if you translate it I'll get it included.

Worlds: Hydrosphere: "Sopping" , found no german word for that, what does it mean ?

Sopping: Very, very wet; thoroughly soaked

Star System: System Has a Crystal Shell/Hyperlimit ... no idea what this means ...

In some fantasy settings each star system is surrounded/enclosed by a sphere of a crystal-like material (eg the AD&D Spelljammer Rules); in some SF settings each star system has a area around it in which hyperspace travel is impossible (usually due to the star's gravity well) - the hyperlimit is the distance from the star that hyperspace travel becomes possible.

Star System: Start Date, Current Date "set date" box to short for german text "Setze Datum"

I've re-sized the controls for the next release of the Extensions.

Plan of Existense: Morphability ... no clue what that means and how to translate ...

Morphability: change-ability

Organisations: Locations: translated textresource "sOrganisationLocationLinkListEmptyStr" not shown but the original

There was a spelling mistake in "sOrganisationLocationLinkListEmptyStr". I've fixed this and uploaded the correct LPak to the Thread.

No, there are no text resources for those - the system reads the array in that file directly, so if you'd like to translate that file I'll make sur it get put in the corrct place in the LPak - thanks

Ah ok. But for that kind of translations we have "Phase 3", so we maybe should implement this translation also there, right ?

Hi. Just found out about your fine project here.

I was allready working on a hardcoded german translation of the SavageWorlds ruleset a while ago. Abandonded it because of the obvious problems with ruleset updates.

It would be a pleasure to contribute the string translations for SavageWorlds to this project.

So, count me in. ;)

Coud you please explain these three items. That will help me for the tanslation.
These are the last three items to finish the translation job of DOE Locations

Many thanks for any help.

Hi YaC,

"You are offered" is part of a sentence such as "You are offered 10 gold pieces for your longsword" - This is broken down into "You are offered" and a number and "gold pieces for your" and an Item when a PC sells an item to a shop. Does that help?

For the other 2, see Post #39 :)

Hello everybody,
first things first, let me express my sincere gratitude for this translation project. Great Job!

Then, I've just finished translating Italian version of CoreRPG, 5E DnD, DOE: Base, DOE: Locations, and DOE: Organisations
I've used all the resources I've foud in this thread to translate as many strings as possible.

To all the italian players: please, let me know if you find errors!

Edit: updated CoreRPG and 5E to v2.0
Edit: forgot to change name to the extensions to activate the dependencies (ooops!)

One small issue: the LPak Framework has two <description> tags and two <announcement> tags - one each for Rulesets and one each for Extensions. But we only need one of each in the final extension.xml file, so (as the Framework Instructions indicate) we need to delete the inappropriate/unneeded <description> and <announcement> tags from the final LPak.

I've made these changes and updated the 5 LPaks you posted, so there is nothing to worry about, but I thought I'd mention it for future reference.

Again, Well Done! Five at once is simply awesome!

This page is a continuation of the LPak Index And Status from Post #2 and contains a table listing the Extensions the Project/Program is covering cross-referenced with the Languages the Project/Program is translating for.

Each entry in the table acts as both a Status Notification for the relevant LPak and an Index to a Post within this Thread where that particular LPak (or details about its progress) can be found.

Just out of interest (and a bit off topic) but do the various Language/Cultural groups have dedicated Forums or Threads? IE is there a French FG Forum, or a German Thread on these forums?

Also, if there are dedicated Forums/Threads, how much "cross-pollination" between them and between them and these Forums exist? For example, do those forums know about the LPak Project?

One of the reasons I ask is that while there seems to be plenty of enthusiasm for the LPaks but there doesn't seem to be many people downloading them - certainly nowhere near the number of people who said last yeat that they'd like something like this.

So I was wondering. :)

Today I spread some infos to that projekt in several german RPGT forums, so lets see if that increases the downloads of the german paks :)

Currently i would wait for completion of Phase 3 before starting a campaing in my native language, because i dont want to have a mix german and english texts, either 100% german (which i would absolutly prefer, because it is my native language) or 100 % english.

What i also noticed is, that the a lot of the german rpg campaings i saw (at least in www.drachenzwinge.de, one of the biggest german RPG forums) were DSA campaigns.
This realy good ruleset, was one of the first (the first?) original german rpg rulesets and the german community allready created a ruleset for fantasyground for that, with german texts as default textresources ...

On that, are we ready to (ie do we want to) start in on Phase 2? Phase 2 is all about getting the Language-dependent-graphics sorted - this means that our translators will need to have a deft hand at doing graphics (something which I, alas, have absolutely no aptitude for).

What do the Project Team think (or for that matter, people who are not yet part of the Project Team but would like to join/help) ?

For me it would be great if we could start with Phase2 for the LPaks which are completed allready the Phase1.

I saw that there is a "CoreRPG Assets" File in the Wiki with some "raw" graphics for the banners and sidebars and a font.
My first problem for that is, i dont have adobe photoshop but gimp (gimp could not load the layering information from the photoshop file).

If we could get the graphic layers and fonts for each graphic which uses texts in it for each rulesets than it would be not too hard to create the translated graphic.
If not we have to decide which fonts we want to use/we allowed to use , maybe for each ruleset ?

I've just written a post on the main RPG forum (IMO) here in Italy. I've briefly explained this project, and warned the users about using the translaton on existing campaigns (duplicated text and other minor glitches).
I've also asked to spread the word to other forums/blogs.

PS. I've also asked the users to treat the translations as BETA releases, helping translators to find errors.

I see no problem if the work is limited to edit existing assets. I'm quite proficient with GIMP.
The creative part of drawing is an obscure and yet marvellous magic to me and my poor artistic inspiration... :cry:

BTW, which fonts must we use to reproduce the texts on the graphic assets?
EDIT: Ouch, I saw it now. Ignore the question.

And, just out of curiosity: why some of the tabs/titles in the GUI are text and other are raster images?

I see: the problem lies in the structure of the CoreRPG theme. A lot of windows have the vertical banner for title, so I suppose they must use a raster in the other themes too.
Sorry, I've used the 3.5e Ruleset a couple of times only, and I didn't notice. :o

OK, I'm officially moving the Project into Phase 2.

The level of complexity for Phase 2 has increased, so as a LPak Translator please please please please PLEASE read the new version of the LPak Framework Documentation, otherwise your LPak won't work and you'll end up frustrated and waste a lot of your precious time. If there's something you don't understand, ask - there are no stupid questions (just stupid answers)! :)

Also, FGv3.1.6 is about to be released and some of the Rulesets have extra string resources to translates as a result - again, read the LPak Framework Documentation and you'll save yourself a whole bunch of heartache.

I've update and uploaded new versions of the LPak Framework and the LPak Framework Documentation, plus new versions of all of the Resource Archives. All existing LPaks (as of the date of this post) have been marked as "Not Current".

Also, I'll be attaching to Post #2 (Soon(TM)) a list of graphics that are used in more than one Ruleset/Extension - this means that you may be able to save some time and work by seeing if an existing graphic in an existing LPak is the same as one you need for your LPak, and if so, it might pay you to use the existing, translated graphic (with appropriate permission and credit, or course).

If anyone's got any issues them please let me and the rest of the Project Team know

Cheers

It would be very helpfull at least to know which fonts were used within the serveral graphics for the english texts. If we could get these fonts and if we are allowed to use them, then i guess we should
use the same fonts as in the original graphics.

If not, should we use one of the TTF fonts within the rulesets or one of the "fgf" fonts ? (how to bring these fonts to a GIMP compatible font format ?).

To "translate the graphics" with GIMP i would use one Layer for the graphic without text (the original text would be deleted and filled with the same color as it is around the text).
Another Layer with a Textfield with a TTF font, were i could create the translated text.
And Maybe a third layer to create the outline shadow of this text.
The final graphic would be exported as PNG (level 3 compresed).

This GIMP grahpic then could also be used to translate the texts into another language by just changing the text within the textlayer (and maybe recreating the text shadow layer).

So it would make sence i guess if we would arrange each other who is making which GIMP templates, wouldn't it ?

In the CoreRPG ruleset i found two .ttf fonts:

AlegreyaSancSC-Bold.ttf
MarcellusSC-Regular.ttf

Does it make sence to use one of them for the translated texts within the graphics ?

dulux-oz
January 18th, 2016, 14:22
The problem with which Fonts were used is that they are only know to the original graphic creator. I know that the various Tab labels in the CoreRPG were made with the Poor Richard Font (size 9, 10 or 11) but as for the others, well...

I'm hoping some of the original graphic creators or those who do know speak up here and let us know.

As to how to do the graphics, well, that's up to you guys - I've said on more occasions than I care to remember that my graphics work sux, which is why (apart from the tab labels in the various DOEs) all of the graphics I've ever used were either done up for me by FG Community members or they're stock graphics that are free to use from the Internet.

As far as which fonts are used on the graphics if we can't find out the original(s) then I guess we try to find ones that are close. Not the best answer but this is one reason I left the graphics till Phase 2.

And this is likely to be your problem. FG uses ISO-8859-1 character set (I believe) and that won't have any Chinese characters. And unfortunately I don't think you can change the character set that it uses.

Hi Dulux-Oz,

I want to tell you I'm still working on translations, but I'm a little busy lately.
I'm working on Phase 2 ITA versions of CoreRPG, 3.5E DnD/PFRPG and 5E DnD.

I've got some questions about 3.5E strings:

1) Why is power_label_effect_applyall = "Never" ?? Shouldn't it be "All" ???????
2) Can you tell me the context where the "Local Mode" strings(from local_label_score to local_tooltip_definepoints) are used? I've never played with the 3.5e/pathfinder ruleset, so I cannot be sure on the correct translation.
3) Inside the Spell Class lists of a character, inside the Save label of a Cast Action (Save DC <value>), the "DC" text is never translated. I suppose that value is not in the xml strings.

Ok, the last one is not a question, just a note for Phase 3, I suppose. :)

Thank you

dulux-oz
February 18th, 2016, 02:29
No problem - I appreciate people have a life outside FG :D

1) All the string labels are lifted straight from the relevant Ruleset, so if there is an "error" in the string file then that's the way the original author wanted it. As part of the Project we don't "fix up" these "errors" - we translate "as is". If you feel that this is an error than I'd be asking Moon Wizard, as he's the original author of the 3.5E ruleset.

2) Local mode strings are used when you put FG into "Manage Characters" (as opposed to "Join Game", "Load Campaign" or "Create New Campaign").

3) No idea where it "lives" - it could be hard-coded (ie Phase 3) or it could be in one of the string xml files. If its not in a string xml file then it'd probably be hard-coded.

Cheers

PM Edit: While the above files are appreciated (thankyou) unfortunately they are not LPaks - they do not follow the outline, Standards nor specifications for this Project. I will leave them here as a curtsy but they will not be indexed on Post #2.

It's understood that people all like doing things their own way, but this Thread and this Project is designed to standardize these types of translations as much as possible, similar to the way that FG itself has standardized on the Cascading Ruleset Model (CoreRPG and Child-Rulesets). Please, if people are going to participate in this Project and post to this Thread then for the sake of the goals outlined in Post #1 we all need to follow the Project's Standards.

If someone would like to take the information contained in these files and convert them to the Projects Standards then that will be appreciated - thankyou.

I've attached here the v2.0 version of the DnD 3.5E/PFRPG ruleset.

And the new versions for the CoreRPG and 5E rulesets are now available in post #60 (http://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?27202-LanguagePak-(LPak)-Community-Project-Program&p=248914&viewfull=1#post248914).

Edit: forgot to change name to the extension to activate the dependencies (ooops!)

Hello,

I need help !
;)

I'm actually working on the french DD3.5 translation and I've got a damn bug with the "strings_35e.xml" wich I don't understand:

On the character sheet, "Combat" tab; When I try to get a simple "Melee" check everything works fine in english, granting me on a "[ATTACK (M)] Melee Attack" display on the chat window.

But as soon as I try to use the translated file I've got a curious error:
On the character sheet, "Combat" tab; When I try to get a simple "Melee" check it doesn't behave normally, granting me on a "[ATTACK (R)] Melee Attack" display on the chat window, always using DEX ability bonus...

(Just have a look on the screen attached)

This occurs only on the melee base attack, everything works fine on Ranged and Grapple attacks.

I precise that this can be reproduced using only the LPak_French_CoreRPG.ext file approved by Dulux there:

Markjan, you are right, the same for me with german LPak!

I guess it is an issue we have to solve with Phase3 activities (somewhere in the XML or LUA scripts for the charactersheet). I will check that as soon as i have the time for ...

--------
UPDATE:
--------

The "roll" is triggert within the script in the template "number_charattacktotal".
There it took the translated label name where you click the "roll" button and uses this text as parameter for the function "getBaseAttackRollStructures" which is part of the CharManager script.

Here it checks "hardcoded" if the given parameter contains "melee" in its value.
If this is the case it return the Melle Attack bonus from the corresponding charactersheet datanode.
If not it return there ranged Attack bonus from the corresponding charactersheet datanode.

So we have to change whether to "hardcoded" check in the CharManager function "getBaseAttackRollStructures" or the evaluationg of the parameter for that function within
the tempalte "number_charattacktotal".

There are a lot of other places where we need to do such changes, which would be part of "Phase3" of that LPak project.

Code:

campaign/template_char.xml

<template name="number_charattacktotal">
<number_chartotalwithability>
<rollable/>
<displaysign/>
<modifiersize>mini</modifiersize>
<script>
function action(draginfo)
local sText = Interface.getString(self.description[1].textres[1]);
local rActor, rAttack = CharManager.getBaseAttackRollStructures(sText, window.getDatabaseNode());
ActionAttack.performRoll(draginfo, rActor, rAttack);
return true;
end
function onDragStart(button, x, y, draginfo)
return action(draginfo);
end
function onDoubleClick(x,y)
return action();
end </script>
</number_chartotalwithability>
</template>

campaign/scripts/manager_char.lua

function getBaseAttackRollStructures(sAttack, nodeChar)
local rCreature = ActorManager.getActor("pc", nodeChar);

local rAttack = {};
rAttack.type = "attack";
rAttack.label = sAttack;

if string.match(string.lower(sAttack), "melee") then
rAttack.range = "M";
rAttack.modifier = DB.getValue(nodeChar, "attackbonus.melee.total", 0);
rAttack.stat = DB.getValue(nodeChar, "attackbonus.melee.ability", "");
if rAttack.stat == "" then
rAttack.stat = "strength";
end
else
rAttack.range = "R";
rAttack.modifier = DB.getValue(nodeChar, "attackbonus.ranged.total", 0);
rAttack.stat = DB.getValue(nodeChar, "attackbonus.ranged.ability", "");
if rAttack.stat == "" then
rAttack.stat = "dexterity";
end
end

return rCreature, rAttack;
end

Hi guys,
so the string checked in the script is char_tooltip_atkmelee

I don't know why the developers are comparing the contents of a tooltip to check if a control is the right one.
Maybe the correlations and the dependencies in the rulesets make of it a necessity.

I'm using this modification right now, and it seems to work: in the template_char.xml file i've replaced

local sText = Interface.getString(self.description[1].textres[1]);
with

local sText = self.getName();
I really don't know if something like this can break something else in the code. But it can be a way to resolve the issue.

PS. yes, the modification breaks the chat output for the roll, but this is a minor issue to me. I'm worried about other biggest impacts.

EDIT: Ok, I think the following code is better for mantain the consistency in the chat log:

local sText = string.upper(self.getName():gsub("attackbonus", ""));

The "name" of that string resource is just misnamed, it's not being used for anything other than as the description for the type of attack being made with the number_charattacktotal template. (The only two fields this is used for is Melee Attack (char_tooltip_atkmelee) and Ranged Attack (char_tooltip_atkranged). There's no rush to rename these to avoid breaking any existing translations.

Since it's not being used anywhere else, I would recommend just translating those without making any changes to the code.

I am a player from China. I am thinking of the possibility of translating it into Chinese, but when I see the first line of that string file, I see it is encoded with iso-8859-1. I don't think that encoding is compatible with Chinese. I tried to change it into UTF-8, but it doesn't work. Does anybody know how to use some of available encoding method like unicode or UTF-8 in FG for the translating purpose? I have a guess that it might be the overall decoder design of software is using iso-8859-1, which does not support Chinese, I cannot find out a way to translate it by using the way European language do. Anybody have any thoughts or hints?

Hi JPG,

i do not understand you recommendation:
Should we rename the "name" of that string resource (which would also be a change of the code) ?

If "yes", in my opinion that would not help because the evaluation of the roll when clicking the button will still using the value of the translated text in that textresources, which causes the problem.

If "no", could you tell us please what should be translated exactly without changing the code to fix that issue ?

UPDATE:

I think i got you:
Just do not translate the texts for the text resources "char_tooltip_atkmelee" and "char_tooltip_atkranged" and let then as they are will fix that issue.
Because these texts are only used as "descriptions" for those both templates and are not shown anywhere as tooltips or other texts on the desktop.

It would be good to change the discussed behavier in one of the future releases for that ruleset as a small (cosmetic) fix ?
I would recommend to remove those needless textresources ("char_tooltip_atkmelee" and "char_tooltip_atkranged" ) and replace the "<textres>" tag in that templates e.g by "attacktype" and use "local sText = attacktype[1]" in the roll function.

OK, a couple of things - this Thread is for the LPak Project. Other subjects have their own Threads, so let's try and keep discussions in their relative threads so that people can find information without having to jump all over the place and also so that a given thread doesn't jump all over the place with unrelated "stuff"- thanks

Second, I can't see anything wrong with the screenshot - could you be more specific. Please reply in the appropriate Thread - thanks

Third, excellent work on the SW translation :)

Hi fqdl,

First, welcome to the FG Community and Welcome to the LPak Project/Program!

No, at the moment FG doesn't support Chinese characters - but when the re-write of FG to the new Unity Engine is complete we're expecting that all sorts of non-English character setrs will be supported. The boys at SW are working on the re-write as we speak, but while they are making good progress they haven't given us a delivery date yet.

So I don't know what to suggest - except stay involved with the Project and FG in general and once the re-write is complete help us out then.

If you have another suggestion or any questions, etc, then, please, post them here and we'll see what we can do :)

Cheers

Hi everybody - well, I'm assuming all the Project Members are still paying attention to this thread :)

Just a heads-up for everybody - with the impending release of FGv3.2 there is almost certainly going to need to be some update work done on our translations as there are new strings in FG (and therefore in the DOEs as well), so if people could keep an eye out and put their hands up to do this basic maintenance/upgrade work, that would be fantastic.

noticed :)

By the way, are there any plans for "Phase 3" ? I thought about it, especially for the PFRPG ruleset and came to the conclusion that would be more result in a modified ruleset than it could be handled by an extension (a lot of script changes are necessary e.g. to make all the ruleset automatitations localizeable ...).

So maybe it would make more sense to find out all the places which has to be changed and ask the developers to take care for that in one of their next releases, so a Phase2 LPak would be enough to localize everything ?

I don't know - it'll certainly take some investigation (and FGv3.2 changes a few things anyway so that less images are used) but I still think its doable in an Extension - but we'll have to see :)

Hi Everyone,

First of all I'd like to thank all of you who have been/are a member of the Project/Program - I, as well as everyone who has used an LPak, really appreciate all your hard work!

With the release of FGv3.2 (and now FGv3.2.1) all of the existing LPaks now need updating, so they have all been marked as "Not Current". They should all still work, but they will not be complete. So we need people to pitch in and update the existing LPaks and, of course, develop new ones for the Rulesets, Extensions and Languages we haven't cover yet. As such, the Project/Program Framework and Documentation have been updated, and all of the Resource Archives have also been updated as well.

We want and welcome your involvement and participation in the Project/Program, and to help both you and us in this I strongly suggest you take the time to read the updated Framework Documentation available on Post #2. You'll save yourselves a lot of heartache and extra work if you do and if you follow the process contained within it. As an example, (and I don't really mind doing this) I have fielded almost a dozen questions in the last fortnight and all of the answers were available in the Framework Documentation - so PLEASE read it (even if you're an old-hand at LPaks) to make sure you understand how to participate in the Project/Program effectively - its no use "doing your own thing" because then we can't really include your work because its not maintainable in the same way that a properly constructed LPak is, which is a great shame and a lose we'd rather not have to endure. :)

So come and join us! Read the Framework Documentation (its only a few pages long) to learn how to be an effective Project Contributor and to see what's changed from previous versions, ask some questions if you don't understand something or need some clarification, and help contribute to the great product that is Fantasy Grounds.

I think it should be up to the translator if he want to translate "letter indicators" or not, so i also would like to have included the graphic resources as mentioned by gandalfmagic.

I also noticed that the LPak Framework file for the CoreRPG graphic resources is not complete. Following new graphics, which came with FG 3.2.0, are missing:

<icon name="button_quests" file="graphics/button_quests.png" />

I tried to follow the "LPak Framework Document" instructions as exactly as possible, and found some points i have problems to understand:

Maybe somebody could help me and answer that questions ?

Chapter: Creating A New LPak

7 b)
i. If you are creating an LPak for use with the CoreRPG change this tag's value to 90

Q: Also for CoreRPG itself ?

7 d) If you are creating an LPak for use with the CoreRPG, remove lines 19-21.

Q: Is it not the reverse case, ".. LPak nor for use the CorRPG .." ?

(I did not delete the "dependencies" tag in 3.5E LPak and everything seams to be working fine for me)

7 l) Look through the “extension.xml” file and remove all the “ruleset” tags (and any “child” tags) that do not have your chosen Ruleset as the “name” tag value.
i. If your Ruleset is a Child-Ruleset remember to leave behind the “ruleset” tags of any “parent” Rulesets. This will almost always mean that you won't delete the CoreRPG ruleset tag.

Q: Maybe i did something wrong, but for the CoreRGP LPak i had to leave all ruleset tags after CoreRPG,
otherwise i could not select this LPak extension for the child rulesets like 3.5E.
On the other side i deleted the ruleset tag for CoreRPG in the 3.5 LPak, and it works ... (i have to select the CoreRPG LPak extension and the 3.5 LPak extension)

gandalfmagic

I'll try to answer here:

7 b)
i. If you are creating an LPak for use with the CoreRPG change this tag's value to 90

Q: Also for CoreRPG itself ?

I think the sentence refers to the LPak (extension) that you create to use with (or to translate) the CoreRPG, only this one.
So the answer is YES.

You leave to 100 the value for all the other rulesets, for example the 3.5E and the 5E LPak extensions.
(I got this one wrong in the previous releases, by changing to 110 the value for the other rulesets. :p)

You must change the value to 110 only when you create an LPack to translate an extension, for example DOE: Weather.

As for the previous one, this refers to the LPak extension that you are creating for the CoreRPG.

For each LPak that you create to translate a ruleset, you must leave only the entry for that specific ruleset. The exceptions are listed in the Notes.txt file of the ruleset.
For example, in the 3.5E ruleset you leave the dependency tag and the 3.5E entry tag because you must, and the PFRPG entry tag because is stated in Notes.txt

Hope I was clear (and that I said the right things).

dulux-oz, I think you are wrong when you say that you are wrong. :D

Yes, the files drvolk is talking about are the ones in the LPakFramework.zip. Maybe you didn't update them. Well... is understandable: this project is big.

But the point is this one: in my opinion we shouldn't delete the old files from the packages, if they are still used in old versions of FantasyGrounds, and these old versions of FG are still compatible with the current LPak Extensions.
For example, the title_*.png files are indeed not used in FG 3.2, but still needed for FG 3.1.x. And from what I see in the minrelease tags in the extension.xml file, LPak 3.0 is still compatible with FG 3.1.2.

So, if these files doesn't cause any runtime error in FG 3.2, is better if we leave them.

If you also think this way, I'll revert the changes in my CoreRPG package before I release it.

Argh... this is dependency hell... like in windows dlls...

dulux-oz

OK, short answer is I need to shelve this (and other FG-stuff) for a week, and then I can get back to it and give it my full attention. Sorry, but you'll all just have to bear with me - I can't avoid it.

Long answer: let me think about it, because everyone should be going to the latest versions of FG when they are released so the dependency-hell should be kept to a minimum - but we need to consider it in detail.

Yes, the answer given by gandalf are correct - I'll put in some explanation "stuff" into the Framework to make things easier to understand - again, give me a week or so.

I agree with you, tihs is the way it should work. But for me it lookes like that the "dependency" tag not works as excpected. Maybe i did something wrong, but with LPak 3.5 it did not work. Whether the "depending" CoreRPG LPak was automaticly loaded nor the selected 3.5 LPak was loaded.
Only when i included the 3.5E ruleset tag within the CoreRPG LPak and selecting both the CoreRPG LPak and the 3.5 LPak extension everthing works fine ...

hi,

i did update the German LPaks for CoreRPG and 3.5E/PFRPG to FG3.2.1+. I also added new German LPaks for FG3.2.1+ for 4E, 5E and Numenera (see post #17).

I did also update the German LPaks for the extensions DOEBase, DOELocations, DOEOrginisations and DOEWeather for FG3.2.1+. I add DOESound for FG3.2.1+ (see post #26).

I did update the German LPak for Fate Core to FG3.2.1+ (see post #59).

Because it lookes like i can not upload more than 5 files within one post, i add the German LPak for DOEOLE for FG3.2.1+ within this post.

@dulux-oz
could you please update the states in you correspondit state matrix post for all the LPaks?

Thanks drvolk - yes, the forums only allow a maximum of 5 attachments per post - that's why the Resource Paks are spread across several posts :)

So, what changes to the Framework do people want/think are required?

Would be great if you could add the resources into the xLPakGraphic[Rulesets].xml as mentioned by gandalfmagic in post 121.

-----------------------------------

In "LPakFramework.zip":

All "XMLFiles/xLPakGraphics[Ruleset].xml" should be reviewed if the references to the graphics files were realy upated to the FG 3.2.1 version.

e.g. for "XMLFiles/xLPakGraphics35E.xml" seams to be still for version FG 3.1.7:

CoreRPG LPak :

I am not sure, if i missed something, i will check it, but currently in my opinion you have to do:

All "ruleset" tags for all the CoreRPG child rulesets must stay in the extension.xml file of the "LPak-[Language]-CoreRPG". The "dependency" tag in the child LPaks works not as expected.

The "depend" LPak will not be loaded automaticly when you load the Child LPak extension. You have to select the "LPak-[Language]-CoreRPG" manually also and this is only possible if the "child" ruleset tag is set in the "LPak-[Language]-CoreRPG" extension.

Hi Everyone,

First of all I'd like to apologise for taking longer than I intended to get back to this and get things up-to-date - sorry.

Second, I'd like to thank all of you who have been/are a member of the Project/Program - I, as well as everyone who has used an LPak, really appreciate all your hard work!

Because I've updated the LPak Framework and the Ruleset Resource Archives (due to requests by the Project/Program) all of the existing Ruleset LPaks now need updating, so they have all been marked as "Not Current". They should all still work, but they will not be complete. LPaks for Extensions have not been effected. So we need people to pitch in and update the existing Ruleset LPaks and, of course, develop new ones for the Rulesets, Extensions and Languages we haven't cover yet.

We want and welcome your involvement and participation in the Project/Program, and to help both you and us in this I strongly suggest you take the time to read the updated Framework Documentation available on Post #2. You'll save yourselves a lot of heartache and extra work if you do and if you follow the process contained within it. PLEASE read it (even if you're an old-hand at LPaks) to make sure you understand how to participate in the Project/Program effectively - its no use "doing your own thing" because then we can't really include your work because its not maintainable in the same way that a properly constructed LPak is, which is a great shame and a lose we'd rather not have to endure. :)

So come and join us! Read the Framework Documentation (its only a few pages long) to learn how to be an effective Project Contributor and to see what's changed from previous versions, ask some questions if you don't understand something or need some clarification, and help contribute to the great product that is Fantasy Grounds.

Here is my first attempt with the LPak-Italian-CoreRPG for FG 3.2.1
This is an update of the previous version translated by Gandalf, so in the credits I took care to even leave his name.
First doubt: root version="3.1" must change to 3.2.1 ?
Second: about the version of this extension, since it is an update, I'v changed the <version> from 2.0 to 2.1
I hope goes well, this is mi first code-work :P

dulux-oz

Excellemt!

Thankyou Ixion :)

No, the 3.1 does not refer to the version of FG, but to the version of the FG-Engine, so it needs to stay 3.1.

Your version number (2.1) is fine.

Cheers

Hi Markjan,

Yes, the three LPaks work well - thank you. :)

One thing: the idea behind the LPak Project/Program is to develop "layered" LPaks that build upon one another, in the same way that the FG Rulesets are "layered" on top of the CoreRPG. This way we only need to put a string resource or a graphic resource into a given LPak if it isn't already in a previous loaded LPak. So in this case, as there are no graphic resources in the PFRPG Ruleset there shouldn't be any need have all the (translated) graphic resources from the CoreRPG and the 3.5E Rulesets in the PFRPG LPak - instead, they should be in the CoreRPG-LPak or the 3.5E LPak. Similarly for the CoreRPG-LPak; it shouldn't need to have any of the CoreRPG graphic resources in it - they should be in the CoreRPG LPak.

And yes, this means that we need to load the CoreRPG-LPak, the 3.5E-LPak and the PFRPG-LPak when we play PF - and the LPak-Framework handles this by specifying that the 3.5E-LPak is dependent upon the CoreRPG-LPak (for eg).

OK, so why does this all matter? Well, there are several reasons: first of all, by having graphic and string resources duplicated in LPaks means there is more work for us to create, update and maintain the LPaks; second, it leads to the potential for more mistakes and "missed" translations; third, it requires more computer resources to load the same graphic (and string) multiple times; and forth (although this may not mean much to many people) its bad coding practice to do it this way.

So... the three LPaks you have done all work, and they all work well, but there is a better, more efficient way to achieve our goal - its a bit like using an 18-wheel semi-trailer to move your stuff across town when a car or a small van is way more appropriate. :)

Cheers

Hello! My name is David. I'm new to the FG community. I bought FG on steam a few days ago and I'm joining with my friends to buy some 5E modules, we always played D&D and we are currently trying out this version. We have met FG recently and are excited to begin our adventures.
Meanwhile, I saw that there is no translation into Brazilian Portuguese. So I started to follow the steps of this project and started translating CoreRPG and 5E ruleset, but I already had my doubts:
1st: in [Language] I write Brazilian_Portuguese? I mean, with the "_". The instructions are for the names of the rulesets but not for languages.
2nd: My language uses special characters like ç, é, ô, ã. Can I use them or do I need to ignore them to work? For example, translation means "tradução", would I have to write "traducao"? Words like this for us Brazilians do not cause any difficulty in reading, the only case that hinders is: "and" means "e", while "is" means "é", that is a problem.
3º: Is it possible to translate complete modules like official "PHB" and etc.? Because these things have already been translated into Portuguese in physical and digital copies, it would not be difficult to put this into FG.
Thank you.

Hi davidx_3, and Welcome to the Community and to the LPak Project.

Let's see if I can answer your questions:

Yes, put "Brazilian_Portuguese" - this is the first time we've had a language name like this so its not surprising that you couldn't find an answer. I'll update the Framework to take this into account.
Unfortunately, at the moment FG has trouble with Unicode characters, so special characters like the ones you mention may cause problems. You have two choices at this time: try and use them and see if they display correctly, or use the "Standard English" equivalents (which we know will work). There is a new version of FG in the pipeline (called FGU by most of us, for Fantasy Grounds Unity), which uses the Unity Game Engine and which is supposed to be able to use Unicode Characters, so in the future this shouldn't be an issue, but right now... Don't worry, FGU is still a way off so you haven't "lost" anything by using the current version :)
No, the PHB is under strict copyright and so we don't have permission to do an LPak for it or any similar product. If you are really keen you approach SmiteWorks and ask them about it, but believe it or not at this point in time we're better off getting the Rulesets done first.

I hope that answers things for you.

Now, as a new member of our Community, if you and your friends haven't done so already, let me encourage you to take a look at some of the great Tutorial Videos available on the Fantasy Grounds Wiki (and on YouTube). Damn's are good, as are Xorn's, and people seem to like mine as well (mine are also available from the links in my sig, below).

Start with the ones on the CoreRPG, because the CoreRPG forms the foundation of just about all the RPGs we play with Fantasy Grounds - so by learning how to use FG with the CoreRPG you'll learn about 80% of what you'll need to know to play any RPG with Fantasy Grounds. Once you've gone through the CoreRPG Videos you can then go on to Videos about your chosen RPG.

When you get familiar with the basic Fantasy Grounds product the next step is to check out some of the Extensions (Plug-Ins) for FG, such as the DOE: Sound, DOE: Locations, DOE: Weather and DOE: Organisations Extensions (to name a but a few).

And keep on asking questions - we're a pretty friendly lot here, and we love answering questions.

Cheers

Hello again!!!!
Let me clarify a few things.
I was giving up translating the main modules for my language (brazilian portuguese) because here in my country, foreignism is very common. (I do not know if this is the term that is used). What I mean is that even speaking in Portuguese, when we play we use almost every term in English. So I was afraid to translate these things. At first, what I was looking for were translations for the official campaigns.
Well, now there are news coming out that an official translation from Wizards for D&D 5e will happen. So when the books come out, I intend to look at the terms they have decided to use, and then I will try to help with the project here of translating the main modules. And since all the books will have official translation, will the other modules of FG 5e also be translated?

That's something for the boys at SmiteWorks to comment on - as per usual, though, if members of the Community want to do so then they're welcome to join the Project :)

Hello all,

Here comes the LPack french update ver 3.3

- Core RPG : https://www.dropbox.com/s/h33zfolswc92efg/LPak-French-CoreRPG.ext?dl=0

- 3.5E : https://www.dropbox.com/s/m2iz3y0jza3pg9g/LPak-French-3.5E.ext?dl=0

- PFRPG : https://www.dropbox.com/s/x55hirpxkvrcccu/LPak-French-PFRPG.ext?dl=0

I have 2 curious issues to report though, wich are not due to the update:
1) I have problems creating new skills on a PC sheet (such as craft or knowledge): When I click to add, nothing happens
2) On the Main tab of the PC sheet, if you click for a base melee attack, it uses ranged bonus instead of melee

For the LPak-French-5E-WotC, you need to use the CoreRPG, it isn't a standalone extension.

Long time user, first time I'm joining a project on this forum.

I'm a brazilian D&D player, and will join forces with everyone to bring those rulesets to my native language. I have the intention to work on CoreRPG, the 3.5 ruleset (but not Pathfinder), and the 4E ruleset.

Core is done, and uploaded on this post. I'll do my best to keep it up to date.

I'm having some trouble with the 4E ruleset, since after I finished the translations, it seems that my monsters when being dragged into the CT are automatically changing their attack strings to the translated defense names, and when they roll to attack, it returns a null value from the target character. Anyone was having the same problem before? For ease of debugging, I uploaded it as well, and will re-upload when I fix that bug.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been a tad quite - I've had a lot of things on my plate. I'll be working on bringing the LPaks and this Thread up-to-date over the next little bit, so please, stay with us (and please, forgive me).

I'll be updating the Source String Files as soon as we know that FGV3.3.2 is ready (ie when it is released) and so I just wanted to let everyone know that things are still progressing with the LPaks.

I also wanted to ask the Translators' experience/advice on using tools such as Zanata (zantra.org (http://zanata.org/)) and/or Jabylon (jabylon.org (http://jabylon.org/)) - I'm thinking about streamlining the LPak Framework and possibly integrating one or the other of these two tools to help us stay on top of things and also to provide for easier translations. So have people used either or both of these tools and what has been the experience? Do the Project Members (or others) think that moving to these tools will be of benefit (realising that there might be a "learning curve" for us to go through)?

Basically, I'm looking for some input - so if you've got an opinion - especially if its backed up by experience - then please let us know

Cheers

Hi Dulux-Oz,

i have no experience of these tools but they are looking very promising. I think it is a realy good idea to manage the Lpak tranlastaion with one of these tools. It will give us a better way e.g to tranlaste in teams or to reuse translation for new FG ruleset versions. And the current LPak version could be better organized within that WEB tools as it is currently possible within the forum threat.

So i am willed to learn one of these tools if the LPak team members came to the conclusion to use them !

Hi All,

OK, as an experiment / to try things out, I've set up a translation project on Zanata (zanata.org (http://zanata.org)) called the FG LPak Project. It only contains the string files from the CoreRPG (at the moment).

If people would like to have a look at Zantra and the FG LPak Project and perhaps start doing some translations to see how to use the Zantra website then we can evaluate how useful it is to us. You will need to sign up for a free account on Zantra and there are (or seems to be) full instructions on the site as well.

So, please, check things out and provide us with some feedback. If things prove helpful I'll move the rest of the Rulesets and Extensions over to Zantra and update this Thread and LPak Framework document (and place it on Zantra as well) :)

Cheers

Edit: Fixed up the site name / URL :)

I do not seem to be able to log in or register to the site. And I cannot find anything on zantra.org which resembles a collaborative platform, just advertising for WordPress templates. Good templates, yes, but nothing that we could use for FG.

Either I have become too old to learn new technologies (possible...), or perhaps this platform is not so stable and user friendly as we need.

Edit: or perhaps the reason might be that the platform is zanata.org, and not zantra :)

Just a quick note: on the Zanata website the LPak Project "appears" to not have any source documents loaded - it does, they just don't show up on the Dashboards, etc. If you actually click into the Project and the "version" (the CoreRPG) and then a language you'll find the source files.

I'm unsure - certainly at the moment all we can do is display the chinese language using english characters. When the new Unity version of FG come out it should be able to do Unicode characters, but that's a question for the SmiteWorks people.

I volunteer officially for a revision and update of the ITALIAN core rpg LPAK, which lacks some items added in the latest releases and has a couple of mistakes.

I will ask for the support of the recently founded Italian Fantasy Grounds Community for this task, in order to make it as collaborative as possible and achieve the highest possible level of consensus on the translation. For this reason I have setup a glossary for terms that are untranslated or could use a revision. Everyone is invited to have a look and make suggestions. The Facebook page for the Italian Community is probably a good discussion arena in order to avoid cluttering this forum with non-english terms.

Hi Dulux-Oz,

i logged in to zanata.org and also found the LPak project there. I could also see a list of XML files from the CoreRPG strings resources directory.
There is no content if i click into one of that XMLs. It also looks like that i only have "read access" to that project.
How can i become a member of that zanata project ?

Maybe it is you, as "Maintainer" of that project, who have to add the members into that group ? (and give them the rights to upload or edit something ?)

hola Dark One

Dark One? That's not aimed at me, is it?

To answer the question: add the <ruleset><name>MoreCore</name><minrelease>??</minrelease></ruleset> tag to the extension.xml file (as would be normal for any Extension - and I think that's mentioned in the Framework, as well - but I could be wrong about that).

metazeta
October 4th, 2017, 17:25
Hey,
The thing is that every MoreCore Translation will need to call the CoreRPG translation, which currently can't be used for the MoreCore ruleset.
So ideally every CoreRPG Lpack should contain

<ruleset><name>MoreCore</name></ruleset>
in addition to the other rulesets.

damned
October 4th, 2017, 23:38
Hi Dulux_Oz yes you are the Dark One :)
MoreCore itself is not an extension anyore (not for well over a year) it is a ruleset so as metazeta suggests how do I get it added to this list so that the LPAK project can support it?

dulux-oz
October 5th, 2017, 03:49
I was talking about the LPak (Extension) - it needs to have the <ruleset> tag added for the MoreCore Ruleset - the CoreRPG <ruleset> tag already exists in the extension.xml file so doesn't need to be touched.

As far as long-term support is concerned, once we've got a working version I'll make sure the necessary bits & pieces and up in the Framework and templates.

Of course. I was just seeing if there was anything that I could/should do at my end. Many of the fields in MoreCore are actually editable from within the Ruleset so it can easily be customised to whatever it needs to be without coding.

Hi, I have just translated the first XML file from the "fg-lpak-corerpg" project under http://translate.zanata.org. Since there seems to be no possibility to import a file and edit it e. g. with a text editor, I had to do the translation line by line using the integrated editor of the web application, which was a bit annoying and labor-intensive.
But the advantage would be, if you did it once, you only have to update the changes from the new FG releases in the future. You can also work in teams and we have a central place where all Lpak extensions are stored.
The disadvantage would be that Duluz or someone else would have to create the respective extensions from the translation files stored there and make them available in the Fantasygrounds forum.

How do the other members of the LPak project teams view this?

P. S.: I typed this text on the page https://www.deepl.com/translator in German and had it translated into English. The result looks very good to me!

I am progressing well with my French MoreCore translation. I would like to translate some lines in a lua script, linked to a control (morecore_rolls.lua).
Do you have tips on how to do that properly ?
I tried to overwrite the xml that creates the control (record_char_more.xml) and the lua file but it does nothing.

I see that most of Lpak does not translate luas ? Is this the norm ?

You should not overwrite record_char_more.xml as changes will likely get made to it. If there are hard-coded english labels let me know and I will fix them for the next release.

There aren't any - SW has not made them available, only the finished graphics. There is a "graphics package" mentioned on the Wiki (in the Developer section - I think) but I seem to recall it only had some of the necessary icons, not all of them - but I could be wrong, because I haven't checked it in quite a few months.

This is one thing that's been slowing us down on Phase 3 - we need to "blank-i-fie" the existing graphics and then substitute the appropriate language info.

You guys might want to decide moving forward if all languages should be done in one set of Gimp files with each language on a different layer, or different file sets for each language. The first way means if the graphic changes you can update everything quickly, the second way is easier for individual developers.

They can be used without issue - the only "issue" is that some of the translations have not been done (hence being marked out of date - the translations need to be updated).

The files are Extensions - copy the ones you want/need into your FG Extensions folder and then from the FG Load Screen select the ones you want. Note that this applies to all Extensions, not just these LPaks

Any other questions, etc, just ask :)

Hi,

at least for the Pathfinder RPG it would be possible to create SRD modules in german language also, because there is one SRD at http://prd.5footstep.de and I did start writing a script to scrap these informations and create an FG compatible module for that.

But the most "ruleset" automation things will not work with content which is not in english language, because the parsing of keywords is allways done with english words and they currently could not be replaced by "translated" string resource within an LPak extension.

Hopefully this will be changed in one of the future releases of FG (maybe with Unity?), we will see ...

What would be required to update one of the outdated versions (for me it would be 5e / German) versions to work with the current FG version?
Would be great to be able to use it but the existing one isn´t supported and marked red when I try to use it disregarding the version difference.

Since I´m a native German speaker I could help with translating (possible added) stuff to get it updated but when it comes to coding / programming, I´m out ;)

I mean, is there anything relevant from this project that exists outside of this thread? Even a Discord server or something?
It's just because it's going to take a few months before I can gather enough money to buy FG, so I'm not gonna be visiting this forum often, I just wanted to be updated about the project.

Nope, this is pretty much it.

You'll find that just about all of the communication that happens around Fantasy Grounds happens on these Forums - its just something we get used too :)

Don't worry though, you'll find yourself hanging out here quite regularly, even if you only have the Demo version of FG - its just a great place to hang-out (online).

Cheers

Don't forget/miss that you can subscribe to this thread so you get an email when someone updates it.

I had coreRPG full translated to Portuguese Brazilian and Call of Cthulhu 6E, but not in LPack convention...

I also started translating it without using the LPack, I just transferred the files to it after I finished.

I have managed to convert the icon files to photoshop format, with the text on a separate layer. I hope this may be useful to other people engaged in translating.

And here comes alpha (well, maybe even beta) version of language pack 2.2 for Italian. It should be fully functional but testing is required.

Hello everyone! I'm from Brazil and i've been wandering about fantasy grounds for some years and finally decided to buy it and try to use it to play with some friends. As my friends don't have the opportunity to learn english i've come here to see how to set the things easier to them.

I'll be using the Call of Cthulhu 6E Ruleset to have some fun and make some translations in my way to play, so probably i'll be making some contributions with it.

I thought it would be harder, here is my first try, please be my guest! And if there is a way to translate the skills names please let me know.

See ya!

Actually as a developer i'm quite used to git, so, if there is a possibility to use it in my translations would be good.

Ps.: Could we put the resources in an external repository (as github), if it doesn't have one yet?

If you want to share, we could use it to make faster the translation to LPack.

Hi !
I am working on the French LPak for the Savage Worlds Ruleset.
The thing is... We can't translate Skills names without messing with the scripts.

For example:
in the ruleset Parry is a derived stat that equals to 2 + half the Fighting skill. I would like to change "Fighting" to "Combat" but as the calculation is hard-coded it is still looking for "Fighting"...
This problem propagates in various ways and has other cases.

Edit: And the LPak framework for savage worlds is out of date ^^

Check the translation I made for Brazilian Portuguese. I introduce the code for a new attack, keeping "melee" but also introducing a new attack that uses the translated name of the skill. I also re register the derived stats like parry, toughness, to use the translated words. If you need any help I'll be happy to assist you with it. Right now I'd say the Brazilian Portuguese translation is close to 99% with expressions and code fully working. Ikael has also been little by little making it possible to translate everything in the ruleset.

Just hit me up on Discord and I'll be glad to help.

I know it's possible to do it by meddling with the script, but it's not a viable long term solution plus it is a minor problem that could be handled in a future ruleset release.
I was thinking of a temporary workaround similar to yours, I will check your work ;-)

It's a viable long term solution. I'm not messing with code already written in it, I only coded what wouldn't become obsolete after updates to the ruleset.
