New Player Questions

Hello All,
I am interested in playing this , but I have a few questions first.
As a player , when making a character can I keep that character , as in can I keep playing my one character to build up and make more powerful that i can use in all sessions? Or do I have to make a new character each time I play a session?

If you play in Adventurer's League (5e) or Pathfinder Society games, yes. Otherwise GMs will generally want a character specifically generated for their campaign (and taking into account any house rules they may use).

What happens mechanically is that you create a character local to your machine. When you connect to a hosted game and select your character, it copies it to the GM's machine for that campaign. Everything that happens to that campaign character is specific to that campaign and will not update or change your local character. The next time you connect to a campaign, once again you can select your local character and copy it to the campaign.

I haven't played AoL or PFS games, but I assume you have to make the updates back to your local character. Someone else able to verify or comment on this?

You send your character to the GM pre-game and they can import it. The GM can also export it post game or you can access it from the Manage Characters option and then selecting the last game you used that Character in.
