View Full Version : Changing map grid size from 5x5' to 6x6' (5e)

Hey

I am an avid 'house rule' instigator, and as such my speeds, etc, are based on a 6' per square rather than 5'. Is there any way to manipulate the coding to reflect this easily, or do I get my players to manually adjust distances shown on their maps as we play?

For example, PC 1 targets a creature and the map shows 40' away, which is 8 squares, so in my game it's 48' away.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I use 6x6' as you can have three levels of movement, rather than half and full. Eg., my stealth system has normal stealthy movement (2/3 speed) and extreme stealthy movement (1/3 speed), with bonuses and penalties for each.

Interesting concept...

Not a programmer, but something like that might be possible with a custom extension.

You'll need to change code in the FG ruleset to do this. Make sure it's an extension so FG updates don't overwrite your changes.

I don't get the 6' thing? Why introduce that much confusion for 1/3 and 2/3 instead of 1/4 and 3/4? Do your Dwarfs have a default speed of 24 ft then? I just can't see what you gain from this house rule.

6 has 3 factors, 5 has but one... as soon as you do anything to a 5, you involve decimals... and I don't like decimals.

1/2 x 6 = 3
1/3 x 6 = 2
2/3 x 6 = 4
