I purchased only the D&D Basic Rules. I have good tokens to use for monsters, but I cannot add them to the monsters in the DM module since you cannot unlock the record. I seem to have to drag the monster to the NPCs and then add there. However, then I do not have a nicely formatted and organized list of monsters like in the module. Is there a way to do this? (Sorry if this is a repeat, I tried to find the answer on these forums already but did not see it.) Thanks

The way you are doing it is the only way I can see to do it.

When you create an encounter you can drag tokens straight from the NPC list into the encounter and then drag a new token onto the NPC in the encounter dialog and it will change the icon for all monsters in the encounter of that type. No need to have the monster on the NPC list at all if you don't want to, although that is the handiest way to do it for a variety of reasons.
