So I am trying to host a game locally for my gaming group (allow me to easily share information with my players who are rather tech savy). Love the tool for running my own game, but just bought the ultimate edition and can't seem to connect to the game locally from my own laptop to test out remote connection. What am I doing wrong?

Hey metfansc.

When connecting from the same machine - use localhost
When connecting on the LAN - use internal ip
When connecting from the internet - use external ip or alias

Please be aware of a licensing requirement - when demo/free licenses connect to an Ultimate they need to verify the ultimates license over the internet.
So... internet access is required to initially make connection and then is no longer required.

Ok, so both my machine and the laptop are connected to the internet, I am using the private IP address and it just says "Could not connect to the address and try again" anything I can do to troubleshoot why it is getting that?

Then its probably a software firewall issue on the Server computer.
Check your windows firewall - create a new Inbound rule - Allow TCP 1802 from ANY computer on ANY network.
If you have an Antivirus security suite you might have to do it again there.

Holler if you get stuck.
