Howdy,

Has anyone had success with moving their entire FG install to another PC? (laptop)

If so, how do you recommend I do it?

Install on new PC, copy entire campaign, extensions, & modules folder from following location.

"<User>\AppData\Roaming\Fantasy Grounds"

And you should be good.

Ok great ill try that. I did copy campaigns but then my tokens didnt show. They must be in those other folders you mentioned.

Is it possible to have everything in my google drive folder and run it from either machine?

if the tokens are in modules you might have to activate them again. tokens -> modules -> select and activate
dont forget to set your STeam and Forum details in Settings so that DLC can be downloaded.

Don't do this. A number of people have reported campaign/data corruption when their FG data directory was pointed at a cloud sync service like Google Drive, DropBox, OneDrive, etc..

You can do manual backups to Google Drive in order to transfer data from one computer to another, but don't use Google Drive directly on your FG App Data directories.

Roger that.

Maybe I'll just run it with those 2 directories existing on a flash drive on my keychain.

I would stick with your local harddrive... at the beginning or end of each session zip up the campaign that you have just played and copy that to your favourite cloud storage location.

If that were my only option id have to say that running a campaign from 2 machines (suxh as work and home) is not possible with Fantasy Grounds. I mean sure you can do it that way... But no thank you.

What if I have no access to the computer that crashed. I have a new computer but the download will not work. It says I am in Demo mode. I have a license key. Where would I find this other information?

Thank you,

Bart

Welcome to the forums, sorry your'e having issues getting your new computer up and runnning.

Your license key is available from the Store link at the top of wesbite -> Order History -> <the order you placed to buy the license>

Put this in the FG Settings window and then run an update.

The license key is also available in the email you should have received when you purchased Fantasy Grounds

Hi,

I have a FG AAA and in that I have few function modules. Now I need to move just one function module to another new FG that I have created. How do I do that ?

In SE37, I tried to enter the FM name and then choose Goto--> Function groups --> change group, but that did not allow me to change th FG name..How should that be done ?

Sorry, but I don't understand anything in the above. What's FG AAA, what functions are you talking about? What's SE37? What exactly are you trying to do?

The posts above are concerned with copying over the campaign database from one computer to another. So that is the copying of files and folders - not functions.

Someone had done a search for "moving FG" - but meaning Function Groups in the SAP suite of applications. They didn't read anything else in the thread... No wonder they can't get their stuff working in SAP if they don't read things! ;)

I did consider just waiting for you to replay. I was fairly sure you'd know what they were talking about :)

does 'zip up' mean export as a module? If so and assuming that still applies to FGU, does that capture all the characters I have created as NPCs?

As mentioned by Zacchaeus in the other thread, copy the campaign files from your old computer to the new computer.

At the main FG launch screen click the folder icon in the top left, this will open your computer’s file explorer. From the "campaigns" directory copy the directories with the names of your campaigns you want to copy to your new computer. Then paste those files onto a USB thumb drive or similar and then take that thumb drive to your new computer and paste the directories into the same place on your new computer (click the folder icon on the FG launch screen to get to the right starting point).

So I am wanting to move my FG install from my C:/ drive to a different SSD on my PC. What would be the best way to go about doing this?

Uninstall the client and then re-install to the new location.

If you mean data then just change the pointer in settings to where you want the data to be and then update FGU. Once that's done you can copy over your campaign folder to the new location (and any modules or other stuff you created).

Backup your data folder.
Uninstall
Reinstall in new location
Change Advanced Settings to set data folder to new drive
Restore previous data folder to new location

You could instead just edit your registry and move things manually, but unless you know how to do that already I would not recommend it.
