does anyone know if it is possible to set it so that player controlled movement of tokens moves along side waypoints that they control?

i know you can do the setting right now, but a GM has to accept the movement before it moves. is it possible to allow the players to freely move their own ticket but have it stick to waypoints without needing GM approval?

No, but you can plot out movement using pointers if you want.

Or just tell the players to move their tokens one space at a time. :)
