View Full Version : Help - Image/Map resizing to get grid to lay on it nicely

Just reaching out to the community. I am certain someone out there can help me resize (2) images so that a grid will sit nicely on them. I have tried a bit but am just not a strong enough in Photoshop to make it happen without wasting days. :)

Hopefully someone can give me an assist. On the map one square is 10' but I would like to lie down a 5' grid if possible.

I am making an old Basic D&D module into a FG 5th edition adventure. Welcome back 1979.. and then I will be running it so keep your eyes open. :)

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Try this (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?19813-Map-Align-Utility-to-scale-and-align-map-to-grid&highlight=align).

Those old maps may not conform to a uniform square, making it very hard with this tool or any other tool to get it to line up. Try the map align tool and if that doesn't do it, let us know.

I downloaded the map align tool but it will keep throwing an "Unhandled exception" on my PC. Yes it was run with Admin privledges.

So that did not work for me but it is a good suggestion. The map may need some slight rotation as well as scaling. That was why I was looking for a Photoshop/GIMP expert. If I can not get it to happen I will just not lock tokens to grid I suppose.

Thanks anyways.

This map will never line up to your grid properly. The room lines are thicker, the scale varies slightly across the page. The attached image is approximately 28px per grid square. As the party move around you will need to redraw the grid occasionally. This is your easiest solution.

Thanks Damned.. Kinda figured.
Threw it out there for anyone who is bored and like a challenge. Hehe

Like I said welcome back to 1979 D&D module. Not even AD&D.. This was a module for Basic D&D.
After this comes B2 The Keep on the Borderlands

And because they don't have a grid on them, you don't have to worry about matching a pre-printed grid. :-)

BTW, notice the scale in the bottom right? Just draw your grid box over either the 10' box or the 5' box when you're adding your grid, and everything should be great.

Wow.. that is amazingly simple.

I am so going to use this technique on non-official FG maps. :)
