Hi,

I recently bought all the modules that were relevant for 5e. I connect as localhost to see if I could get things working properly. Mostly it worked.

However I noticed that as the player, I could move around the tokens on the board, any token at all. Is there a way for a DM to prevent this?
Targeting has been a nightmare. I don't understand how to make it so that a player token on the map can target a say, a giant spider NPC, and have his Acid Splash roll against his AC and all that. I can make the roll work, but it jsut rolls on its own, no targeitng.

I must be missing a really vital link here. Can I please get step by step help on how to ensure targets get targeted by PCs? And as a DM, how I can ensure I'm correctly targeting players to apply damage and stuff with rolls? I looked everywhere and feel stupid, but I really must be doing something wrong.

The other issue I had was about image size sharing. I use art for when the game gets more story oriented. I can't seem to get the image size on my screen to match the same size (proportionately speaking) on the player screen. That's just a minor quibble though.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the GM has the ability to 'lock' tokens so that they can't be moved by players. Even if the player owns the token, he still can't move it when the GM has it locked.
(As GM, right click on the token and select 'Lock Token')

Thanks :D What about the targeting? Have my two sessions open and I can't quite get it right. I can't seem to get the rolls to apply to the enemy. I have tried targeting with the token on the map, and on my GM combat tracker it doens't show up as targeting, and the player's rolls don't apply to the monster.

I have yet to master using the combat tracker, I'm new to FG myself. (and targeting still eludes me)

Congrats!

As dberkompas said, the GM can rclick on a token and Lock Tokens. This makes players only able to drag a token to create a path for their token. Left click drag to make one leg. Let go. Drag from there to make the second leg and so on. Once it's planned the player tells the GM. The GM can then middle click on the path to accept it or right click and Accept Move. If the GM doesn't like the movement he can drag the player token a little bit then back again to clear the movement path.

The Combat tracker is the key to targeting. Always drag PCs from the list in the top left corner onto the Combat Tracker then their token from the left side of the tracker onto the map. You'll know it worked when you see the green background of the player token on the map.

Players can leftclick+control to target another token. You'll see this reflected on the Combat Tracker. As long as that happens the dice rolls with work properly. You can also target via the Target icon at the top of the map. Additionally you can drop a die or die roll result onto a token to direct a roll.

Thanks in advance.

On the GM screen get the image looking exactly how you want it. Then right click... Share... Preload image. Then right click share... Sync Player view. That'll display the image exactly how you have it to them.

I highly suggest checking out the Tips and Tricks (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?24644-Advanced-Fantasy-Grounds-Usage-5E-Ruleset-Edition) thread for a lot of 'hidden knowledge'.

You must drag your PCs to teh Combat Tracket from their Portrait.
You must drag your NPCs to teh Combat Tracker from NPCs or from a Module or Library

then you drag from the Combat Tracker to the Map

If you dont do this then Fantasy Grounds has no idea that the pretty token on the map is anyone in particular.
