I'm just about ready to invite a few players into a FG game I'm hosting. In prepping for this I've found there to be a lack of step by step instructions for doing this. Perhaps it is obvious how to do this to those savvy in networking or online multiplayer gamers, but it isn't to me and I can't find any single set directions on the forums. I'm looking to answer these questions:

Once my router is correctly configured, how do I begin (host) a game session?

Once I'm hosting, what does a remote player (one not sitting in the same room as me) need to do to join my game?

For someone joining locally (sitting in my house) I envision two ways to connect to the internet locally. 1) is a wireless network from my router, or 2) directly plugging into an Ethernet cable running from my router.

I'm assuming wifi is the easiest way so do they need to join my wifi network?

If so, then how do they join my game?

Thanks much

If you've got some spare time, looking at dulux-oz's videos on the GM launcher (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_fS-tnIzPk) and the Player launcher (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bhnp8_TqiI) might give you some pointers.

Also, getting started (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Getting_Started) in the Wiki might help.

As the GM, you need to "Create New Campaign" from the FG launch screen. Remember the "Internal" IP address (1) and the four word "Alias information" (2) (click "enable alias" if there is no four word alias shown). Give your campaign a name and select the ruleset (and extensions) you wish to use for your campaign and press the "Start" button. Once loaded up, your GM session is ready for players to connect.

If someone is connecting over the internet, give them the four word alias (2) info and the enter that in the "Host Address" portion of Fantasy Grounds when they click "Join Game".

If someone is local in your house, then they should connect to your local network - WiFi should be OK (as long as the signal strength is good) and then they should "Join Game" but enter your internal IP address (1) as the "Host Address" rather than the alias.
