Every now and then I have short notice evenings where I can run a game, what would entice you to sign up to a one shot at reasonably short notice?

The time probably isn't up for discussion, as it is what it is (not necessarily my times, but for others too).

Typically for me when it comes to one shots (This applies to Cons as well) is there has to be a good write up/back story to get my attention. Usually as well there is just a hint of mystery that makes me want to do it so I can see what happens. Pregen characters of course, that way you can sit down and just start. Really that is about it. there have been a few one shots at Cons that got me hooked on new systems.

Just my $0.02

Anything in particular that gets your attention, fantasy scifi, .... ?

For that it is usually a mood thing. I go through phases. Genre is not as important to me as the story. If the write up and back story are well written and detailed that usually means the GM has thought the one shot through and it probably will be an interesting game. This typically has been my experience in both playing and running games.

Any of the following in no particular order:

- ruleset (either a favourite or one I've been wanting to try)
- setting
- genre/style of game
- GM/DM is someone I know and have had fun gaming with in the past
- player(s) I know and have had fun gaming with in the past
- not "organized play" (I'll be at a distinct disadvantage with a pregen)
- no Imperial Entanglements at home (wife)

I like to try rulesets that are unfamiliar to me if possible - my tabletop gaming experience outside of D&D is pretty limited. I tried Trail of Cthulhu at the most recent FG Con and loved it. I would like to try some Call of Cthulhu since I am a big fan of Lovecraftian horror. I have never played Savage Worlds but would like to try it.

If it's D&D, then I would play any edition other than 4e. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights are usually best for me, up to 4 hours at a time.

For me, in a rough order:

Systems/settings I enjoy but don't get to play every much. For example, I love playing Call of Cthulhu, Star Wars: EotE, Middle Earth based RPGs; but these are only rarely available on FG.
Systems/settings I want to try.
Timing - when I'm free.
A GM I enjoy playing with.
Genre's I'm interested in.
Players I enjoy playing with.

Raison d'one shot---

-Try a system I haven't played before/rarely
-I also find a free evening and want a game
-Try a new GM that I don't know to meet them
-Play with a GM I know and like
-Meet new players

In order: Time, whether conflicting with real world commitments of already scheduled games
Game system, either ones I never tried and want to, or those I have played and really enjoyed.
Know the GM, often players in games will run one shots for FG-Con and such and I joint to support their efforts
NEW GM's, as someone very new to both RPG and Fantasy Grounds if a GM advertises a one shot because they are trying to learn to GM and I have the time slot free I'll join. Partly in gratitude to those who welcomed me in and helped me learn, partly because as new as I am I recognize encouraging the development of as many GM's as possible is a benefit to the entire community.
