Campaign Data Vanishing - Maps, NPCs, etc.

My friend is dming a campaign for us. Several times a lot of his data is just disappearing when he loads his campaign - npcs, encounters he's built on maps. He keeps his campaign folder on an external hdd, while FG itself is on the internal drive. Could this be the problem? i wouldn't think so, but don't know what else would cause this.

We've heard of problems with data corruption when storing campaigns on cloud drives, due to corruption of data when the cloud drive takes action while FG is saving data.

My guess is that your GM is seeing something similar. We always recommend that the data folder be placed in the standard application data location for Windows to prevent synch issues or permission issues.

Personally, I store in the standard location, and have a backup program run each night to an external drive for protection, as well as a backup to a mobile drive before I travel for access on the road and as an additional backup.
