Hi All,

Does anyone have a link or advise for converting different D&D content to 5e? I'm looking at some of the old adventures and things like Myth Drannor for bringing it into 5e as a home brew game, potentially past level 20. I know this is beyond and not within the "reach" of standard 5e so any advise on jumping characters from the end of the campaigns (RoT and PoTA) into a higher homebrew game would be appreciated.

We've got lots of time (months or more at this point), but I wanted to be able to breadcrumb stuff into the game for their later adventures and have some of the content waiting for them ready to go.

Cheers.

There was a thread on this at EN World you may find helpful:

In general, I think you are better off doing an ad hoc conversion than trying to follow a formula, particularly for higher level stuff. For example the concentration mechanic means high level spellcasters are much less powerful in 5E than in previous editions; so a lone "boss" spellcaster that could have wiped out a 3E party won't even slow down a 5E party if you just directly convert the stats. Instead figure out what CR you need then rebuild the encounter using the same or similar 5E monsters (or adjust the stats on a 5E monster per the DMG guidelines).

I also think you are better off waiting until you have played a bit a higher levels to try to convert stuff, as you will have a better idea of what will challenge a high level 5E party. You can still drop breadcrumbs for the story you have planed, just hold up on the mechanical conversion.
