Removing Spell Slots

So, one of my players was creating his bard character yesterday. Anyway, he added and removed his class a couple of times and has ended up with five first level spell slots. Do I need to go into the xml of the character to remove these extra slots or is there another way I can get rid of them?

You click the bottom left button in the action tab until it says preparation then you change the number to whatever it should be.
