Hello friends, it has been a little while since I finished up my first Dungeon Map Tiles (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?22537-Dungeon-Map-Tiles) set and I thought it was about time to make another one with a different look and feel to it. So here is Dungeon Map Tiles II (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/product/dungeon-map-tiles-ii-pack-1/?utm_source=Fantasy%20Grounds%20Forum&utm_medium=Forum%20Post&utm_term=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20II&utm_content=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20II&utm_campaign=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20II). This set has a darker look to it that the first.

Just like the first set, I'll be releasing a series of small "pre-production" packs as I get each stage in production completed. These small packs will be available in the Studio Store. Once I get the set to a point I am happy with, I'll wrap the whole lot up and pop it on RPGnow.com.

One interesting thing I am thinking about doing, is making a bunch of "ready-made" rooms with pre-set objects and lighting that DM's can just drag-n-drop into their maps.

Looks good. For me it would also be nice if you or someone could do a step by step tutorial to using these in something like GIMP. I know in the past everyone has said oh its just drag and drop. But drag from what and drop in what? When I drop something into GIMP it fills the whole screen; which isn't what you want. It's just that you might sell more if people like me who are not artists knew that there was simple way to use the tiles.

PS, from experience I never believe the phrase "quickly and easily".

When you drop it into GIMP, it uses the original size. I forgot exactly what scale he uses for his tiles, but if it's say 50x50, then figure out how big you want your map in tiles wide and tiles high, multiply both of these by 50, then create a new image using those dimension. Create a grid that is 50 high and 50 wide. Turn on "snap to grid". Then just drag tiles from a file explorer window onto GIMP, and move them into place on the grid. With "snap to grid" turned on, the tiles should line up with very little effort on your part - just drag them into pretty close and it will "snap" into place when you drop the tile.

All of my stuff uses a scale of 180 pixels to a 5ft character square. So all the map tiles are 180 pixel squares (except for the larger ones that are multiple squares combined). But I also provide the tiles as 50 pixel squares as well.

Ah, thank you Andraax. That does indeed seem to come into the category of 'quickly and easily'. I think I'll just toddle along and have a go at that. Cheers!

A couple of people have asked for a tutorial about how to use GIMP and the Dungeon Map tiles. So I have scratched together a tutorial that gives you the basics about how to do just that.

Thanks for the video, and taking the time in general to help people make the best your product!

For those that have a moral objection to gimp, but still want to make maps, I recommend...

https://www.getpaint.net/index.html

and

https://www.mapeditor.org/

It's what I use for your set 1 (and will use with set two hoping that it will include a 'cave' terrain that isn't laid brick, but natural walls (the texture not the tile itself))

Thanks!

why would you have a moral objection to GiMP!? Is there some dark secret we dont know about?

Ha! It was more of a conversation starter ;) I just can't stand the interface. (and as a software engineer I am objective and correct in my opinions!).
But just wanted to give some simpler tools a mention :)

The next pack for the Dungeon Map Tiles II set is out. This pack is all about the outer walls and windows. This set has two different types of window, an Arrow-slit style window and a large open window tile.

A small pack just went into the store. This pack contains a number of PNG tiles so you can build upper level maps for second or third floors to buildings and then overlay them over your other maps.

The next pack for the Dungeon Map Tiles II range has just been uploaded. In this pack we have the small round tower walls that can be used to encase the circular room walls so you can make a small tower, or a circular staircase.

My only complaint, and it's an extremely minor one, is that you don't have bundles of the packs. I know I just have to add them all to cart individually, but I also think that if you bundled some together and sold as a single click that you might sell more packs. I think you do great work and want to see more, I also want you to be rewarded for your efforts which is the best incentive to make more :)

aaaand it appears that I'm blind and you totally do have bundle deals lol. great work man.

As I make stuff, it goes into the Studio Store (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/all-portfolio-list/studio-store/), eventually when I feel I have enough for a "pack" I put a pack onto RPGnow.com (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/all-portfolio-list/rpgnow-com/).

Is each of those squares that fade in a different tile?

I have the first dungeon pack and use it a bit, but I really only find it useful for rectangular rooms. It would be nice to have some diagonal walls and even curves for round rooms. From the look of it, that large tower is made up of a few curved tiles and might be able to be used to make a curved dungeon wall. Still need diagonal wall, but it's a start.

Yup!

But because of the shadowing nature of the curved wall sections, they are multi-tile blocks to fit all the artwork for a section of curve until the wall meets up nicely on the edge of a tile. So I use PNG images to retain transparency in areas that don't effect a whole tile within the multi-tile block.

There are curved wall tiles (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/product/dungeon-map-tiles-round-tower/?utm_source=Fantasy%20Grounds%20Forum&utm_medium=Forum%20Post&utm_term=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20Round%20Tower&utm_content=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20Round%20Tower&utm_campaign=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20Round%20Tower ) for the first set. The first set has curved walls with a 5ft radius, while the second set has that plus another set with a 10ft radius.

If you only have the first pack from the first set, you will be missing out on all the other stuff I made for the first set: pit traps, curved walls, outdoors tiles, etc. You can find a full list of all the tiles here: Dungeon Map Tiles (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/all-portfolio-list/dungeon-map-tiles/?utm_source=Fantasy%20Grounds%20Forum&utm_medium=Forum%20Post&utm_term=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles&utm_content=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles&utm_campaign=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles).

I'll have a look at making some diagonal wall tiles. I had thought about making them but I thought they would be too clunky to use as anything other that multi tile blocks like the tiles I make for the curved wall sections. But I'll have a tinker and see what I come up with.

I have the first Dungeon Map Tiles. It has Pack #1-4. This is what I meant by the first one.

There are curved wall tiles for the first set. The first set has curved walls with a 5ft radius, while the second set has that plus another set with a 10ft radius.
The 5'-radius curves aren't really what I was talking about as they are just curved corners. I'm referring more to a curve that would span two to four tiles. If you have a 10'-radius curve, that's a start. I didn't see those when I was looking through the Tiles II, or are you referring to this tower pack.

I threw together a diagonal tile to use. It wasn't that hard, but there is the issue of that little bit of wall between the straight wall and diagonal on each side. Multi-tile might be a better idea. I just made three tiles with transparency and layered them.

BTW, I didn't see Tiles II on DriveThruRPG, only the first. Have you not released it there yet?

I use the 5ft radius and 10ft radius tiles to make towers, so I always called them towers. The tiles are duel use, I might call them towers, but the elements can also make round rooms.

If your handy with a graphics editing program you could, but I have not designed it that way. The white pixels are pixels, not transparency (unless noted as some tiles have transparency so you can use them as overlays).

I used white because pretty much every graphics editing program (such as Photoshop or Gimp) opens a new canvas with a white background - and since I wanted this to be something that people with no graphics editing experience can simply drag'n'drop onto the canvas - white was the best option.

Wondering if we should add a collection of ready made rooms to the new Dungeon Map Tiles II pack, or if the ready-made-rooms should be a stand alone pack.

Here is a sample ready made room, a simple store room with a crate and a few barrels with a candle on a barrel. Did it as a test to see what I could do...

I have just wrapped up all of the pre-production packs into one big jumbo zip file and I have posted it to RPGnow.com (https://www.rpgnow.com/product/153486?affiliate_id=81229&src=Forum_Post) as the finial Dungeon Map Tiles II (https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/all-portfolio-list/dungeon-map-tiles-ii/?utm_source=Fantasy%20Grounds%20Forum&utm_medium=Forum%20Post&utm_term=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20II&utm_content=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20II&utm_campaign=Dungeon%20Map%20Tiles%20II) set. Although I am calling this the finial build of the set, please remember that I have a tendency to add stuff later on when inspiration hits (as was the case with the diagonal map tiles that were not in the first set).

Many thanks to everyone who purchased the pre-production packs, your support helps to keep me going. Everything that is in the pre-production packs, is in the jumbo pack on RPGnow.com (https://www.rpgnow.com/product/153486?affiliate_id=81229&src=Forum_Post) - the only difference being it is all in one pack instead of a number of little packs.

So what now? As some of you have been asking, and as I have hinted at, the next big project is going to be the Cave Map Tiles set. Plus I am going to be making a bunch of Ready Made Rooms for Dungeon Map Tiles sets I and II.

I cant figure out how to use these little tiles to make a map to utilize from so I have avoided buying anything like them for the last 2 years. I much prefer to use my own maps that fit with the encounter I am trying to provide the players. Using GIMP with my skill set don't combine to make great maps. Is there like a YouTube video that shows a Windows user with GIMP how to take these tiles and make a dungeon, wilderness road area, or a castle ruins ...etc etc that I can learn from. Would likely increase the sales of these products because I know several folks that have no clue how to make maps from those little pieces of tiles you guys make so nicely and try to bring to market.

Its more efficient I think since you don't have to manage a ton of meaningless layers. It has lots of advanced features, but laying down a quick point and click map is super easy.

If you're using GIMP with map tiles, you don't need to fiddle with layers in GIMP. Set up your grid, turn "snap to grid" on, and drop tiles onto the background layer.
