encumbrance not working?

I was fooling with weight in one of my players inventories, and I noticed that there were no penalties applied for being in medium/heavy load. This an ext that I need, did I not turn on the option, do I have to script it myself?
Pathfinder rule system fyi.

There isn't any automation in this. It's up to the player (or GM) to keep track and adjust the armour check penalty as necessary. As the whole armour details (max stat, skill check, spell fail) are all done manually to start with, trying to automate this whole process would require quite a bit of coding.
