So you're not a computer wizz and you don't speak xml, lua or gibberish. I don't.

You'd like to understand how to change the background and graphics on Fantasy Grounds but don't know how?

I may not know the best way to make custom skins for FG but I figured out how to do it and if you join me for that event I'll share with you how you can make your own.

This will be a Google Hangouts event so I can do a screenshare and describe what I'm doing. Sign up here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/events/ca57vuf1g3uvh7hgprfulu2n2qs

Looks to be simple enough.

Is there a size limit on the decal? not file size, but pixel size?
If its too small, will it tile? If too big will it warp? or even cause the application to lose its mind?

It can be smaller. If it's larger the decal will resize to fit I think but I'm not completly sure. I always resize my images to fit. I learned all I know through trial and error so I encourage you to push the boundaries. It'd be wise to backup before you do in case you "break" something.

decals are displayed as is. im sure there is an upper limit. the upper limit for backgrounds is 2048 pixels.
it doesnt tile, it doesnt stretch.

Here is a piece of the code:

VZo%b9'5XaUL‘ŠDžH
GXAžty8#z=zI ‘qœair~ožžFŠoV.tˆ:-*
~ž˜Ʀ‘9m~4k/IjקC&|€t(Šz›IŸk&‡oR:Zmf_{9ue<;›й„ťš‰%ŸJ˜!B90*™,="
*t

I got it from the horde file and have that pasted in the extensions folder. It works fine. Nice work if you don't mind me saying. This is what I get when I bring it up in notebook. I still can not find a graphics folder. Is this by chance that I started off with the demo download? Thanks for any help you can give.

Thats what it looks like if you just click on the file, try right clicking and opening the archive with winrar or 7zip. Dont extract though just open archive. Once you do that you can see everything they are talking about.

SUCSESS!!! Thanks to all above. I know this nothing to get excited about. I mean ... this is in the grand scheme a very small thing. After all I didn't write the code and I had my hand held the whole way in editing this. So Mask of winter, it is a tribute to your video that a newbie could put in his own image and edit the playing enviroment. I hope I can build on this knowledge. Ferrin, thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks for pointing out that it wasn't clear enough you had to unzip the extension in the tutorial I posted. I will have to revisit that.

I'm glad it worked out for you in the end. That was the goal, so that FG users who aren't coders can still mod their game. I'm not a coder or IT guy and fumbled my way through the process through trial and error. Thanks to Damned for providing the necessary template files on the FG Con website.

Actually, what I'd like a "backgrounds folder," and an option in-game to choose from it, just like with the decal option. Then the instructions for creating a custom background would amount to basically, "make sure the images you use are x-pixels by x-pixels, and stick it in the Backgrounds Folder for your campaign."

Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Moon_Wizard posted here not long ago that he was considering rebuilding the desktop to allow this to work more like the Decals do now.
