Subject says it all. Just starting to get my feet wet DM'ing and I want to find something that will let me make a few maps of my own to get a campaign going.

Look at Dungeon Painter (Pyromancer) or Tiled.

Hola PsiKoTiK - To create maps - the easiest app Ive found is https://pyromancers.com/dungeon-painter-online/ it still has a learning curve but its pretty easy. The thing to remember/learn with pyromancers is that every element is on its own layer. Here is a video where I make a very basic tower. I posted this one because creating curved walls/elements with a tile based tool requires a little imagination :) towadrs the end you will see more generic stuff on creating an outdoor/forest scene.

And if you have a tileset (such as from RPG Art Kits or Studio Wyldfur for example) then Tiled is awesome.

Just put in a little time and go for GIMP 2.8!!! It is the free photoshop ... once you get the hang of how it works you can even use the photoshop tutorials for ideas, since they do most of the same things ...

All the maps here, I used GIMP to make. Some are better than others, but they don't take much time to make anymore, now that i feel a bit more comfortable with the editor.
