I had my own custom modified ruleset that worked with previous (2009-ish) FG. Got back into FG recently and now my ruleset is completely shot so I'll have to start from scratch.

Quite literally. Most of the XML script is completely different it seems.

Is the developers guide up to date and is there any other resource that'd be better?

Thanks!

Make sure that in the ruleset base.xml the XX in the <root version="XX"> is set to the version of Fantasy Grounds your ruleset was originally created for. Teh valid version numbers are shown here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/refdoc/ For example, if you wrote the ruleset for FG 2.8.2 then use <root version="2.8"> and this will stop functionality changes from later versions from kicking in.

I'd rather update it but it seems none of the old functions work. I loaded up CoreRPG as it's the most basic and started checking stuff out trying to modify that. It seems that none of the old functions like numberfields and stringfields work at all :|

numberfields and stringfields are still valid controls, see the "elements" in the developer guide: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/refdoc/ These haven't changed in any significant way.

It might be that you're missing some definitions in a template. Template definitions/names have probably changed - so you might need to re do those.
