Once a signature is created, is it possible to have it applied retroactively to your posts prior to signature creation?

Every time I've made a change to my signature it shows up in old posts.

It depends on whether you had the option to include signature ticked (irrespective of whether you had a signature) on your earlier posts.

ah hah. That explains the difference. Now that I know I didn't have it enabled, but do now - anyway to force it without editing each post individually?

It is not an option you can change retrospectively.
