View Full Version : steam_api.dll Cannot install Fantasy Grounds via Updater

When I download the client from your website and try to install it gets as far as 'Checking Package FantasyGroundsUpdater for updates updating steam_api.dll' i get the error popup window: HandleFile: Unable to save file (steam_api.dll) and it allows no further progress.

I have exactly the same version and installer on my other pC which worked fine, no problems.

32bit Windows 7 Ultimate

Try running as admin.

Tried, one of the first things i did, no joy.

Run the "UpdaterEngine.exe" as Administrator, don't press "Update", press "Settings" and check that your App directory and Data directory targets actually exist. Then delete steam_api.dll from the App Directory and try running the update again.

Ok, so i tried that, still no joy.... BUT... i then cleared out any folders in user app data and program files cleaned the registry and created manually 2 directories on another partition for data and app... pointed the settings fields to there and hey presto, all good... That was seriously frustrating lol.. thanks for the pointers.
