Hi Guys,

I was cleaning up (ie reorganising) my collection of RPG pdf files and I cam across some really obscure ones - and then I thought "Hey, let's see what the FG Community knows about some of the... less well-know RPGs".

I've played Middle Earth with a Rolemaster hack, Earthdawn, Weird Wars, Warhammer both FRP (one of the best gritty fantasy games and best book cover) and 40k, Marvel Super Heroes, and right now a SXG GM is running some Fading Suns. I've heard of but never played or read Twilight 2000, Serenity, Robotech, Gamma World, Dying Earth (Jack Vance?), Lot5R, Hackmaster, GURPS (George RR Martin's favorite RPG), Car Wars and Aliens (d6 West End Games?).

Ive got:
RoleMaster, Legend of the 5 Rings, Middle Earth Role Playing but never played them.
Ive got WFRP and Serenity and played a one shot of each.
And have Dragon Warriors and played it a little.

I can add "Alpha Omega" by Mind Storm Labs to the list. I never got a chance to play it, but the setting was amazing, the art sublime, and the concept tantalizing. The rules were a little too crunchy for me, but I felt quite sorry this one didn't take off more than it did.

The "driver" got to control the body while the "passengers" got to use latient psychic abilities. Players could voluntarily give up the driver seat or they could forcefully exert control. Odd, let me tell you but a great party mechanic.

Yeah, the rules of the game could use polish but it was fun to play. Thanks for bringing up this topic and finding the book. I completely forgot about that game until i thought long and hard about what i played. I might have to throw together something on FG to have something do in between our regular games.

I loved Star Frontiers... space combat ignored physics, and the tech really wasn't forward thinking, but oh well :)

Maybe just because it was my first space RPG, but it was such a promising setting. Clean, positive, a good place for kids imaginations to bloom.

I am definitely hoping to put together a Star Frontiers campaign. I've been putting tokens and looking at the rules etc. (which I have had since the 80's). I may need to dm something 5.0 first a few times on FG before tackling this though as I want to be more comfortable with FG.

Only one person mentioned Villains and Vigilantes? In college, once my AD&D group tried V&V, we were then a V&V group.

Superheroes genre where you roll your superpowers off of charts for powers, devices, & magic, along with the inevitable weakness. I played White Bat, a man with medically implanted, but removable, bat wings, super strength and supersonic speeds. My secondary character was Rat, a 4" tall man with a prehensile tail. Then he rolled a device for flight, so he flies around in a modified remote controlled helicopter.

One of the best features was that for every point of damage inflicted, the target would be knocked back 1 meter.

I recently bought the PDF and some adventures and plan on creating a ruleset for FG.

Many of those brought back some memories.

I didn't see Men In Black or on the list. One of the most memorable parts is during character creation there was a checklist, and if your character's name was longer than one letter you have failed. Didn't see Hellboy on there, but I think it was just a GURPS lite minibook or something like that.

I loved Ghostbusters, I still have my Ghost Die laying around somewhere...

I wasn't looking for it specifically, but was MERP/Rolemaster mentioned?

Avenger (fantasy written by a guy named James Borg back in the 80s). I have an incomplete copy that I always wished I could complete...:(

God, if I took time to (remember) all my old SPI war/fantasy games, the Ogre/GEV of Steve Jackson, the myriad others from Creature that ateSheboygan to Gondor/Second Age... Red and White Orcs fighting ideological battles in Swords and Sorcery and the odder perhaps John Carter of Mars.

But these were not "RPGs", neither were MELEE and Wizard...yet... Advanced MELEE + Advanced Wizard and finally "Into the Labyrinth" formed "The Fantasy Trip" and that totally opened my imagination which eventually led to:

AD&D 1e
D&D (think they were still only basic sets then) for 1 or 2 nights at friend's
Marvel Superheroes with a friend running a custom "Wild Cards" world campaign about every other month for a couple nights on off AD&D nights for variety.

Think recall playing Commando (SPI?) in a nearly RPG way prior to trying Top Secret
1 Top Secret campaign with many add ins and military variants. (This is the later one, not the original, were booklets usually red sourcebooks?)

Played 2e until about '99?
We tried some 3e later for a little less than year.

And last weekend, first 5e with my old 1e pal, my 9yo and my wife. We hope to call in other friends but wanted to get it going with son first till he was comfortable. And me too with DMing a totally new edition plus my memory, never good, sucks now.
